NYTs Issues Embarrassing Correction, Blames Turbo Tax

Someone is going to have to re-explain to me exactly what defines middle-class.

Unless the NYTs is staffed and run by imbeciles its obviously a lie.

So the possibility exists that it's not a lie. Maybe they are that stupid. After all, why would the nation's newspaper of record not seek multiple sources to confirm the claim? I can think of a few reasons...but none of 'em involve Turbo Tax.

From your article...

"... a spokesperson for TurboTax’s parent company issued a statement to The Journal explaining that The Times used a program for the misleading feature that was not yet updated with the latest tax laws."

yep so it is the NYT's fault for not doing their due diligence attempted another hit piece then tried to blame someone else for their stupidity.
thanks for proving that.

this isn't turbo taxes fault it would be NYT's fault.

Oh, I'm not denying that it was a dumb mistake. Hell, I know nothing about either accounting or computer programs and I would have known to ask if the program included this recent change.

But to say that they're deliberately lying takes it to a whole new level of bad journalism. Whatever anyone thinks of the NYTimes, saying they'd deliberately lie to make a story is just plain stupid.

Not really. The NYT has been spewing hit pieces against trump since he was elected. That pretty much sums it up right there.
This was another attempt at a hit piece and they failed.

A middle class family earning over 180k? Where the hell do they live?

East or West Coast. Given the cost of living that money buys you a middle class lifestyle and nothing more.

This proves that the NYTs is an honorable paper holding to the best of journalistic principles.

I often hear President Trump refer to news articles from the NYT as Fake News. The problem is the NYT will double, triple and quadruple their sources before they print.

Trump just says things.

When it comes to credibility the New York Times has built a reputation for solid journalism over many, many years. Mr. Trump has built a reputation of no credibility.

And with opening lines to a post like " In a attempt to spread lies and propaganda..." I see credibility is not something you are striving for.

I wouldn't get all worship like for the NYT. If they had a rep for solid journalism, they would not have blamed it on something else. They would have done the work themselves or actually ask an expert.

Yes, really.
Lying is completely different from bias or hit pieces or laziness. If you don't understand how important the distinction is, you don't understand journalism.
Faux News is as guilty as anyone else of bias and hit pieces but, far as I know, nobody's ever said they lied. Both Fox News and the NYTimes understand that getting caught in lying would destroy their credibility and ability to sell advertising. Or at least they'd be competing for advertisers with the National Enquirer and Weekly News of the World.

They are imbeciles, using a program that clearly says 2017 tax year and not thinking about the change in tax law. Isn't that what they are reporting on?

Then conservative logical reasoning knows no bounds. It must suck to have to question everything that is considered "established." You guys are sounding an awful lot like hippies as of late. "Bring down the man." "Don't trust the establishment." "Question Everything and fear military industrial complex." These are all standard principles of new age conservatives.

..and admirable ideals that the left has long since abandoned. You're now "the establishment". The DNC is the ultimate in the "good old boys", it hammers down dissension within the ranks like no other political party in the history of this country. The Left has chosen the path of blind acceptance without proof, without question, without thought. Once these were what they fought against, now they define the American Left.

then why don't "we" worship Donald Trump? Aren't you supposed to take his word as gospel?

You don't worship him because he's not part your "Establishment". He's not a DNC approved President, so you are to oppose him at every turn like good little soldiers blindly following your leaders.

Here's a crazy thought. Maybe 70% of people don't actually like the guy due to all the stupid things he does and says???

:lamo
It does no such thing, it proves the exact opposite

I often hear President Trump refer to news articles from the NYT as Fake News. The problem is the NYT will double, triple and quadruple their sources before they print.

:lamo :lamo
And then they'll blame Turbo tax if its wrong

HAHAHAHA !!! Your'e killing me...

And with opening lines to a post like " In a attempt to spread lies and propaganda..." I see credibility is not something you are striving for.

From the NYTs correction...

“An earlier version of this article incorrectly described the probable effect of the new tax law on a hypothetical couple’s 2018 tax bill. The TurboTax ‘What-If Worksheet’ that generated the projection for their 2018 taxes failed to indicate that the couple would probably be entitled to claim a sizable deduction for income earned from consulting. As a result of that deduction, the amount they would likely owe on taxes would decline by $43, not rise by $3,896,”

From your post....

"This proves that the NYTs is an honorable paper holding to the best of journalistic principles." ....:lamo

Purposely distorting facts to push an agenda to most people would be called lying.

we are not talking about fox news. we are talking about the NYT's.

Yes, NYTimes. I was using Fox as an example. That's allowed, innit?
So who are you referring to that 'purposely distorted facts' in this story?

it is a deflection away from the topic.
if you don't understand the thread and what is being discussed the please go back and re-read.
i thought it was fairly evident what happened.

Speaking of deflection, who 'purposely distorted the facts' in this story?

you are.

again fact. NYT tried a hit piece on trump. They grabbed the wrong software for the wrong year in what was a horrible attempt to try and trash the president.
They got busted and then tried to blame turbo tax as if it was their fault.

maybe the reporter should have got his TDS in check before doing the story so he could gather the correct information.

give the fact that people are still filing their 2017 taxes no one has loaded 2018 software yet.
he was obviously in a rush to file his TDS rant that he didn't do any research on the matter.
