The tumult of the past week has fueled a deep and seething anger within President Donald Trump -- not an uncommon emotion for the insolent commander in chief -- but one that allies and aides say has escalated as he faces a new gauntlet of problems, including the encroaching Russia investigation.

His soothing communications guru is leaving. His obstinate attorney general has turned openly defiant. His son-in-law and senior adviser was stripped of his security clearance at the behest of his chief of staff. His Cabinet secretaries keep spending an inordinate amount of taxpayer dollars on luxuries. His most loyal allies in Congress describe his meetings as "surreal."...

“The morale is terrible," said Anthony Scaramucci, the short-lived former communications director, said on Thursday morning on CNN. "The reason why the morale is terrible is that the rule by fear and intimidation does not work in a civilian environment."
"People are afraid to talk to each other," he said...

Morale in the West Wing, already diminished following the domestic abuse scandal involving Trump's former staff secretary, has taken a downward turn, people inside and outside the building say. Staff departures are being announced on a near-daily basis as aides become fed up with the constant swirl of tension.
White House meltdown on full display - CNNPolitics

Of course, we already know that the most senior and experienced diplomats in the department of state were already leaving at an alarming and unprecedented rate. Morale in the EPA, HUD, and multiple other agencies is also completely gone. The thinking was that spending a huge amount of money on more nukes was going to be a good enough substitute for competent governance. Apparently not.

But hey, when you put some real estate guy and TV celebrity with absolutely no experience or knowledge of government in the most powerful position in government, would you be surprised by anything less than absolute mayhem and pandemonium like this?

But hey, MAGA, right?

And as we have seen his knowledge of the Constitution and Separation of Powers would fit in this with more than enough room for the times he has been truthful.

Most of the people leaving should never have been hired. Trump's judgment is abysmal. Look at his hiring of Manafort and Flynn. How could someone like Hope Hicks have a job in the White House? What exactly are Ivanka and Jared Kushner's experience and credentials? What does Ben Carson know about housing? What was Amarosa doing in the White House?

It's like a clown car. But the 35% love the clown show.

The FAILED INTELLIGENTSIA! deciding to go on strike was always going to be the cause of massive morale problems.

I dont blame Trump for that.

I'm thinking we might be seeing a snowballing effect of 2nd rate people screwing-up & poisoning the environment, meaning only 3rd rate people apply, who then screw-up further meaning only 4th rate people apply, etc., etc. Thereby causing a vicious circle.

I once heard a business axiom, for having only 1st rate people in hiring capacity:

"1st rate people have the confidence to hire other 1st rate people. 2nd rate people hire 3rd rate people that cannot threaten them."

I believe this explains Trump and the current White House situation.

Gee, who but those with their heads up Trump's ass didn't see this coming?

They thought we had incompetent people in government. So they were going to show us how it’s really done by electing a private sector guy to really shape the place up. :lamo

Trump is not the first non-politician voted into high office. It's always the same story. The armchair quarterback always realizes he's in over his head.

The problem with Trump is that not only is he inexperienced and ignorant he is also extremely arrogant. As long as you surround yourself with experienced competent advisors you can still succeed as an inexperienced ignorant leader but if you're surrounded by other inexperienced people it's a formula for catastrophe. And that's exactly what this White House is right now. It's an unmitigated disaster.

Scarramucci just wants a job.

seems like a strange way to get hired, dissing the place in which you aspire to work

He's clearing a path so he can drop in with a, "I'll take good care of you Donny!"

It shouldn’t be hard. No one else apparently wants to work with Trump. As a very smart admiral Harward observed, before turning down the national security job offer from Trump, working there would be a s- -t sandwich. At this point, once Trump goes, anyone who has ever been affiliated with him will probably have a blackballed career for the rest of their life. Anyone smart enough to know that will know to stay away from this toxic and dysfunctional environment. Definitely not good for career building, unless their aspiration is to just be a political commentator on Fox News for the rest of their life , I guess.

most who are elected presidents come from a government background. they have accumulated a vast network of people who have already worked in government. and importantly, they arrive knowing how government works
as we have seen, tRump has had to hire from within an extremely narrow pool of business leaders, who typically are without much insider knowledge of government 101. flynn was fired by Obama. so, flynn, hating Obama as much as tRump, was a natural play. manafort was needed to rig the system and bring the russians on board. hope hicks looked like someone who should be beside the president. well because tRump hires based on looks, in many instances. reince prebius and spicer can attest to that. they are dimunitive and faces for radio; thus they were ridiculed for their appearances. ivnaka is the smart one of his kids. so, she makes for a good sounding board. her spouse is a real estate tycoon in tRump's mold. and carson was about the only primary contender who didn't insult the donald, and he grew up in public housing ... so there is that
amarosa had to be there as a token black - eiher that or for prompting the chaos she is known for and which tRump relishes among his staff
while it is definitely a clown car, i am not enjoying this ride

there has been at least one good cabinet hire. linda mcmahon at sba. the staff are much more positive about her and her immediate subordinates than the previous politically aspiring Obama hires

the more bread you get, the less crap you have to eat
guess he could not pay him enough to get the taste out of his mouth

It’s more than a clown car. It’s like being 30,000 feet up in the air, The cockpit door opening, and seeing the cockpit is full of clowns. It’s a rather sinking feeling. America, start saying your prayers.

appears the mooch's comments were not appreciated by the west wing:
Former White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci is on an "administrative exclusion list" from the White House, Bloomberg reports, and can't access the campus "without special approval."

Why it matters: Scaramucci, whose tenure in the White House lasted less than two weeks, is on a list with other former White House staffers who departed "under adverse circumstances," per Bloomberg. He tweeted on Friday evening: "The next time I will go to Washington it will be to visit the @smithsonian."

would suspect amarosa is also on that list

One the challenges in following the Trump administration soap opera has been sorting out sensationalist fact from fiction. A rabid and hostile press has ginned fears and rumors into "stories" of often dubious merit. On the other hand, if even half the office blood feud stories of the last year are true it paints a sorry picture of a back stabbing staff ruled by a mercurial, alpha male with an image obsession - driven to pick random twitter fights with detractors to "win".

Morale should be in the pits. Trump's "views" are little more than a collection of arbitrary and disconnected feelings, no more integrated that those of your local tavern's bar stool know-it-all. Many of his populist stances are no older than 2012, with very little learning or thought given to most of them. And having made promises, and put his "brand" on them, Trump feels that all opposition is personal...a challenge to his "winner" identity.

It was predictable, given his chaotic campaign. As in the campaign, he has hired a broadly eclectic set of advisors and policy makers with incompatible outlooks...none of whom share his whole set of gut feelings. Moreover, he has refused to hire any Republican who opposed him in the primaries ("disloyal"), and found it difficult to find anyone in the professional class willing to work for z seemingly incoherent whack-a-doodle, regardless of what party they identify with. The usual policy think tanks (e.g. Heritage, AEI, Brookings) for Trump are alien landscapes, unknown inhabitants lacking in their personal loyalty.

And into this mix you can add Trump's management style; impulsive, angry, superlative infatuated, demeaning and combative. Trumps "style" is shameless public humiliation of his employee "targets" weaknesses. Only family has been secure (so far) while staff have battled them and each other, constantly getting burned and driven out. As a Brookings study recently noted, turnover has been record setting (twice that of Reagan and several times greater than Bush):

"Six of the 12 Tier One positions saw turnover (Reince Priebus, chief of staff; Katie Walsh, deputy chief of staff; Sean Spicer, press secretary; George Sifakis, assistant to the president and director of the Office of Public Liaison; Michael Flynn, national security adviser, and KT McFarland, deputy national security adviser). By comparison, Obama lost one adviser from Tier One (Greg Craig, White House counsel), and George W. Bush did not see any turnover in these high-level positions."

https://www.brookings.edu/research/...ver-higher-than-the-5-most-recent-presidents/

Add to that Steve Bannon, Rob Porter, Scaramouche, Tom Price, Omarosa, Paul Winfree, Dina Powell, Sebastian Gorka and now Hope Hicks and you have an unprecedented number churned out of office in a first year.

And if Presidential history repeats itself, the second year will be far worse.

The only outstanding question is, is Trump starting to become seriously unraveled?

Yeah, but so is talking to a journalist on the record and thinking the journalist would not report it

He is not the sharpest knife in the cutlery drawer
