US is looking at potential new sanctions against Russia

I have no problem with this. Never had a problem with such sanctions.

However, I also have no problem with any Administration taking a measured tone when sanctioning another nation for alleged wrongs.

Meaning when sanctions are authorized, there is no need to slam them out immediately. Instead it is okay to use them gradually, as needed, while maintaining the threat of more and greater use in order to encourage negotiations to improve/correct situations.

Essentially, don't "shoot your wad" all at once. That increases tensions, and makes both parties less willing to negotiate and more willing to escalate.

Sounds to me like all this talk about "Trump is not doing anything about Russian __________ (fill in the blank)" is nothing but anti-Trump nonsense. I'm thinking a number of such threads can be dismissed...or, better yet, locked.

Anyway, I'd say the Trump administration is doing the right thing. The worst thing to do is have a knee-jerk reaction that doesn't do anything effective and has the potential to degrade relations. That's pretty much what those Congressional sanctions is all about and Trump is correct to tamp down the mostly political outrage.

I'm glad we have cooler heads in the White House to offset those hotheads in Congress.

He could start by implementing the ones approved by Congress.

What's funny is that this article was written on the 21st of Feb. Yet no other news agency that I can see said anything about it.

Which were what exactly? And are they effective ones? Or just retaliatory ones that may make an already tense situation much worse?

I don't know what they are. What were the Obama sanctions that stopped the Exxon deal?

What is up with this story, though. Trump gives some vague promise of imposing more sanctions, and in typical fashion, does not give details. Which is absurd, considering Congress already passed sanctions that he refuses to implement.

Why do you expect details? Why do you want a "promise" of anything?

"The officials said a review is well under way at what more can be done in response to the meddling, as well as how to respond to last week's designation of Russia as responsible for the devastating "NotPetya" cyber attack last year."

That's where we are at.

I don't know...maybe you expect Trump's people to just collectively snap their fingers and the whole problem goes away?

Russian meddling, Trump is silent
Putin denies meddling, Trump believes Putin
13 Russians indicted for crimes against the United States - Trump is silent
Russians attack us in Syria, Trump silent
Congress already passed sanctions, Trump refuses to implement

But they talk about "looking" at new sanctions, an Kal'Stang drops this as though somehow it redeems Trump?

Oh Kal.

Notice the above is just a tiny fraction of the danger of Trump. While he was silent against Russia, he's been attacking the people that are trying to show us what happened with Russian attacks on the U.S. election...the FBI/DOJ.

Details matter, especially from this administration. Holding them accountable for outlandish claims is patriotism 101. Otherwise it's just rhetoric. Like the 90 day supposed review period for the Muslim ban. Okay, after the hoopla died down, and the 90 days was up, did they actually iron out some of the details? Not from what I heard they didn't.

Anyway, we're getting off topic. The premise is absurd. Congress passed sanctions, impose them or stfu, Trump.

Yes, imposing sanctions is way better than actually proving something in a court with evidence.

And they work so well! Some years on, half of eastern Europe is angry about the US sanctions that ruin their trade with their neighbor Russia.

Peace, NO. Sanctions YES is the US long distance "solution" to their unproved allegations in Syria, the election "scandal", and now cyber activities.

It is embarrassing to see this government in action.

I'm sure you'll get the details when Trump's people are good and ready to provide them.

Regardless your desires, Trump is the one who will implement the sanctions. He'll do it when he is good and ready.
