Who own guns in America?

I made a choice not to have my child around objects created to take human life.

I made a choice to teach mine about them, and how to use them, from an early age.... so they could defend themselves against those who had them. Also taught most of my extended family's kids as I had the most actual training and experience of anyone in the family.

They're all in their 20s and 30s now, with kids of their own mostly. Current death toll: 0.0

You think your choice was the virtuous one... I think mine was.

Yet you live in Chicago?

I do, what of it? With our lifestyles here and day to day routine‘s a gun is pointless. Mace and a switchblade with the proficiency to use it are better options. A gun isn’t going to do a damn bit of good on a crowded L train.

You don't want your child around object that are meant to kill, well Chi town is on the most desirable list when it comes to murders, seems to me you'd pick a safer place.

The total number of gun owners in America is actually 60 to 90 million, depending on who you ask.

The total number of households in America is only about 120-130 million, so that's about half of all households if not more...

Own a good number of firearms, more than a dozen, less than 2 dozen. Firearms are tools and I have been around them all my life and in the military it was one of my specialties (MOS). Each has it's own specific uses and all are treated with respect for the capabilities, just like any other tool.
As for the information in the OP, I would suggest that some people do not admit to it, the reason I say this is that almost everyone I know, conservative and liberal alike owns a firearm, most of them have more than 4, so the data seems a bit off when looking at percentages, at least in my neck of the woods.

I bet it's more, way more, because the number of guns that can't even be tracked through retail sales invoices.

I inherited two guns that were purchased from a gun store that burned down in 1984 and the sales records went up with it.

I trust my daughters Rottweiler more with her safety than a gun.

Yet statistically speaking your daughter is more likely to die from her Rottweiler than is by a negligent discharge.

Moot point if true and I doubt it. I trust my daughters safety more with her Rott than a gun. And I’d wager that there’s quite a few more happy endings pertaining to incidents with dogs than guns. This comes to mind and happened in my neighborhood a couple years ago. https://www.dnainfo.com/chicago/201...son-dont-try-rob-guy-walking-pit-bull-mix.amp

Does she own a gun? Would she tell you If she did? I sold a family friend a gun a few years back and his only request was not to tell his folks. They are anti gun people and he didn't feel like getting more lectures. Not sure if he ever told them.
