Dinesh D'Souza woke up this morning and had an idea: "I'm going to use Twitter to attack children who are protesting in support of increased gun control laws because their classmates were murdered while they were at school." And he proceeded to do just that rather than stay in bed and wonder with great sadness at the life decisions he's made that would result in such a thought entering his head in the first place.

While I agree he is an ass, Dinesh has as much right to comment on those kids protests as they have the right to protest

Aw, what is wrong? Can not take any dissent?

Top of the line douchbaggery right there.

Where does Cardinal say he does not have the right to do so?

Shouldn't he be out cheating on his wife while promoting family values? Or getting thrown in jail for making illegal contributions in the name of other people?

Yeah and someone could go up to one of these dead kids mothers and say ''your son was a loser for not dodging those bullets and I am glad he's dead'', that doesn't mean that is a good thing to say. Just because you can say something, doesn't mean you should say it, freedom of speech gives you the right to say almost anything you want, but responsible adults know when its appropriate to say things and do not go out their way to piss people off.

Where's the line between been ''PC'' and just being a ill mannered brute? Because it seems like some right wingers worship vulgarity so much, they forgot basic manners they learned as children and just act like obnoxious teens trying to get a rise out of people by pissing them off.

If these kids want to get into the mud, don't complain if they get dirty.

An adult (supposedly) mocking some kids that just went through some terrible ****, is not dissent. It's disgusting.

Maybe the kids shouldn’t have put themselves in the political spotlight by using a tragedy to advocate taking away rights from people

Just really poor form to troll these kids, even if you think they are on the wrong side of the argument.
Boo.

How dare those kids want feel safe in their schools! Clearly D'Souza is the real victim here, those kids were nearly murdered and saw their friends die, but D'Souza was annoyed by their solution to their plight, clearly they should not have ruined his day by expressing how they think another such tragedy can be avoided.

I'm sure D'Souza has a great solution to stop future mass shootings that he is too awesome to share with us mortals and isn't just being a petty jerk.

I don't remember the case, but I am fairly certain the previous assault weapons ban was challenged in court. The 2nd Amd doesn't bar all restrictions on gun ownership.

It's not necessarily true that this law would take "rights" away, in the same way that allthough you have a general right to travel, the government does have room to regulate how and in what condition you do so. You can't travel at 150 mph in a car. You can't ride a horse on a highway. You can't drive drunk. Cars have to meet certain requirements. There are limits on them in terms of manufacture, for example, you cannot drive a stock car around on public roads (I am fairly certain).

Yadda yadda. Now, you may want to have an argument about whether the ban in question here would actually do much of anything, but that's a different debates. For you to accurately claim that this law would take away "rights", you have to show or at least make a good legal argument as to why these arms could not be banned under the 2nd Amd.

If they can be, then "rights" aren't being taken away.

Wow. That's pretty low. You can comment on the gun control debate without demeaning the kids who have survived school shootings.

No worse than some of the hacks right here on DP.

Pretty sad when Colt is more important than your kids.

It's not uncommon for supposed adults to act like spoiled brats. Nor is it limited to just one party. In the days after 9/11 there was the professor who said some awful remarks about the victims. Dinesh is a douche but seem to fall in a long line of people acting stupid

“Get in the mud” by which you mean state an opinion that you don’t agree with. Truly horrifying

Perhaps instead of spending your time attacking people who just survived a school shooting because they don’t worship firearms, you should contemplate what about your ideology makes you think that’s a good idea.

The previous case was pre Heller

Well, I never did think "compassionate" conservatism was an actual thing....

These kids just saw 17 of their friends and peers murdered in cold blood. Unless you served in some serious hot combat zones, you haven't seen that.

They understandably don't want it to happen again, in the same way that many Vietnam vets didn't want pointless deaths to happen again after what they saw.

And you know what? This isn't a situation where they made an argument and someone made a counter-argument. It's a situation where they made an argument and someone who didn't just see 17 of his peers murdered in cold blood mocked them.

If you defend that, damn.....

Two wrongs don't a make a right.

Maybe if you are so obsessed with an inanimate object that you are willing to viciously attack kids who just survived a school shooting because they don’t agree with you, you should take a long hard look at yourself. Because, frankly, everyone else is.

So it’s cool to be a massive asshole to people just because they advocate for what they believe in?

I disagree with the kids too, but that is so muchnot the right response. It’s not like Dinesh is making any argument with those tweets, he’s just being a dick. IMO people going out of their way to be a dick should be condemned normally, (though not illegal or anything like that), but especially going out of your way to be a dick to kids who just went through a school shooting.

This beside the fact that the only effect those tweets could have is to hurt his cause.
