In the gun debate folder there recently has been posted a video of politician Kevin De Leon talking about wanting to put in place further gun control in the state of California. He says some really silly stuff, talking about "ghost guns" and about guns that can disperse thirty bullets within half a second. Anyway, I want to talk about his ally Nick Wilcox and about Laura's Law that was put in place when Nick's daughter, Laura, was shot and killed while working at a health clinic by a mentally ill patient. As a result of that Laura's Law was put in place which in the state of California has to do with assisted outpatient treatment. I don't know the details on the law and I don't really have a position on it as of now since I don't know much about the law except that it addresses mental illness not guns.

Anyway my main point is this. This is what really steams me up about the incident where Laura was shot and killed while working at the health clinic. What really steams me up is that they don't have better security at the health clinics. Just how could they let somebody bring in a weapon? With health clinics where mentally ill people go for treatment its obvious that there's going to be very dangerous people going there so they should have much better security. They should have not only metal detectors but they should have at least the same level of security that they've got at airports. Last year I went to an event where the President of the United States made an appearance in person and made a speech. To get to the auditorium where the President was speaking you had to go through a ton of security. There was secret service there and everything. We probably aren't going to be able to use secret service at health clinics but we should have close to that same level of security at health clinics that they have when the President makes appearances in person. If we did so it would save lives.
