Common Sense Gun Control

I'd say the government would issue every lawful citizen who wants one, a real military assault rifle, 200 rounds of ammo a month and build community rifle ranges where you could practice as much as you wanted, staffed by government armorers who would keep your rifle in good shape. and if you wanted to shoot more than the 200 rounds a month you could buy more at the same price the government paid for it.
I did not wait for the government, I made sure of that within my own family and some special close friends, most have their own now. 200 Rounds a month? If Only they would stick to that, even when learning they get waaay too carried away with my ammo, though I have admit I might have encouraged them a bit, opps. I make them pay for their ammo now, well most of the time, Hey, I can afford it, and the smiles are worth it. Yes, we seem to be becoming a very Well Regulated Militia, just every day Americans Living Free.

the biggest loophole that none of your points address is the same problem now. A person buys a gun legally and then reports a breakin to their house and all the guns are gone. Now that happens but people can lie and say their enitire gun collection was stolen. Guns are on the street illegally just as much.

You made the assumption that everyone would break the law. Most won’t. If the law states that you have to register the guns, and there are penalties for those that don’t, you need to follow the law or face the consequences if caught. If you break the law and you’re caught with the unregistered guns, it will be on your record, making it harder for you to register guns in the future. Most people tend to follow such laws.

Murder is against the law. A person could say, “Yeah, but then again, if a person wants to murder they will just murder, so what’s the point of the law?” He would be wrong, since most people would obey the law as they don’t want to go to prison for decades.

Kids shooting other kids in school and gangs doing drive-bys is 'well regulated'? Have you seen the murder rate lately?

I know more about the Second Amendment than you, and have for at least a couple of decades now, so you can do the yapping; I'll do the correcting. :peace

No flame war please.

There is common sense gun control. We as a nation can come to a compromise.

Just ideas that I have that I believe could help while also not banning guns or ammo.

We don't even have to ban the "scary" looking guns. We don't have to ban anything. GoT can keep saving up for his aircraft carrier.

1. Create a Federal agency (or expand the ATF) that approves and records all firearm sales. This agency is charged with issuing a federal license to any individuals wishing to purchase a gun, any gun currently allowed. To legally possess a gun you have to apply and hold one of the federal licenses.
Depending on the weapon this already exists.

2. To obtain a license you have to pass all federal, state and local background checks. No domestic violence, no gun crime, no felonies within 7 years, no DUIs. Any of the above restrict you from owning a firearm. There should be waiting periods and processes to go through to earn the ability back to purchase a weapon should you be disqualified by any of the above. If you already own a weapon and are licensed and you commit a disqualifying act you have 30 days to surrender your weapons to the court if found guilty or sell them or gift them another license holder.
Some of these laws are already in place the DUI would run afoul of the 2nd amendment. Sorry getting a DUI does not prevent you nor should it from owning a gun.
There are already waiting periods to buy guns more so hand guns.
99% of gun owners don't commit crimes with their guns. There is a very very small subsection of the population that does.

3. In addition to passing a background check you will also have to surrender your medical records to the agency and pass a simple psychological exam the results of which will be given to the agency. Anyone with a history of mental health problems will not be issued a license. Anyone on SSRIs, benzos or other antipsychotics will not be issued a license. Anyone denied a license because of the medication they are on can come off of the medication, wait 90 days and then reapply. Anyone disqualified because of their mental health history will wait a year and undergo further psychological testing before being considered for a licence.

This could run afoul of other laws already on the books more so HIPA laws and medical disclosure.

4. This one hurts me but goes along with #3. You have to pass a drug test to get this license. Any drug recognized as illegal on the federal level will disqualify you from getting a license. If you fail a drug test, wait 6 months and reapply.

Sorry but if drug testing is unconstitutional to get welfare benefits then it is equally unconstitutional to drug test for guns. more so when that is a constitutional right and welfare benefits are not.

5. The most important job of this agency will be the recording and registration of every firearm sale. Once you receive free to purchase a weapon from any licensed dealer, receive one as a gift, ect. Yes even an AR-15. Every weapon's serial number will be attached to you and recorded by this agency. If you ever sale or gift the weapon it has to be done to another license holder and re-registered with the agency not unlike selling a vehicle.Obviously there are millions of gun owners and guns already existing. If this agency opened tomorrow how would we grandfather them all in? Obviously if you have any disqualifying condition you are not going to license yourself or surrender your weapons and that's fine. What we can do is incentivize people to do so with mass gun buy back programs, tax break incentives for licensing yourself and your weapons. Any new purchases would be subject to this system going forward day 1 meaning if you already own a weapon and wanted a new one you would need to go through the licensing process and register your weapons that you currently own.
Nobody under the age of 18 can get a license or legally own a weapon.

That is already the case now. You cannot buy a gun under the age of 18. Heck you can't even get an airsoft gun under the age of 18 without parental knowledge.
It is already required by law that gun sellers track gun sales. as a private person it is not law but i would highly recommend that if you have a gun and sale it to
joe that you have a receipt saying that you sold it to joe at this time on this date in case joe decides to do something stupid.

We don't need to ban certain guns or clips or restrict ammo purchasing.

These are just my thoughts. Legal and sane people can still own and purchase a weapon. Your rights will not be infringed upon. Buy 5 AR-15s I don't care.

Anyone who thinks laws can protect them in any way shape or form are complete idiots.

Dude. A group of some of the most highly educated people in the Western hemisphere looked at the Constitution and said it was perfectly fine to enslave people.

Millions of people have been slaughtered over interpretation of vague books written in pure hyperbole.

Words are just words. You can bend them, shape them, and change them however you want. That has already been done to the constitution. Empires just as powerful as the USA have gone tyranical. The Roman laws clearly outlawed emperors right up until they didn't.

As far as your first sentence, it is just a silly proposition. The government is going to drone strike all it's citizens? Okay.... That isn't how it happens, and you are smart enough to realize that.

It happens when you get a letter that says be on this train at 3 pm, or a government agent will take you there by force. You don't have a means to resist, and that's the last thing you ever do.

What you're describing is a civil war not a tyrannical government.

But aside from that, it isn't really the point. The interpretation is the most important thing, like I said first. And the government admitting that the 2nd amendment is meant to stop them from going tyrannical is more important than the concept of actually having to do that.

"Defend yourself against us? Why? We would never hurt you. And you couldn't defend yourself even if you wanted to. Just hand over the guns and make it easier... I mean safer for everyone."

Last words of every Democracy ever.
