Faith Is No Longer a Virtue in America

Or he believes in God. Do you think all religious people are freaking nuts? I'm pretty sure most believe their god communicates with them.

nuts as far as they are sensing what they want to and believe it to be gods

if any one on here hears a god in their heads i could ask them to have the god name the items on my desk right now may not prove they have the Creator of the universe in their heads but ill believe their probably not crazy if they can

It's okay if you don't believe in God. But it's quite prejudiced to think most humans are crazy because they do.

I'd like to see the evidence that most humans experience their Gods as a voice in their head.

I'd like to see the evidence that most humans experience their Gods as a voice in their head.

And just how would you prove that evidence? I'll tell you how...you would have to take their word for it, just as you have to take a person's word for it that God is real to them...so your argument is null and void...

Religion is an idea like any other, it's not sacred, nor should it be protected from criticism or mockery.

And the people who chose to follow the shoe feel dismayed at the lack of faith as well as those who chose to follow the gourd.

So myopic.

did not say i thick any ones crazy for beliving in gods only that the gods are talking to them and even then its more of a bias then complete detachment from reality

and iv offered a test for any one whose god is on the omniscient side and hang out in their head

unless their god is all knowing in which case you could test that

It shouldn't be considered a virtue, but why is it that the Hollyweirdo types feel the necessity to belittle Christian ideas while bolstering those of Muslim believers?

As an atheist, I don't buy into any belief system, but if I observe the world around me honestly, I have to admit that today's Christians (in general) are much less patriarchal and violent than today's Muslims (in general).

I wonder if Behar will expand on her sentiments by including those who believe Allah talks to them as also living on the crazy farm. How much do you want to bet that she doesn't?

I get really sick of hearing this garbage. Show me where "liberals" put Islam below Christianity on the crazy scale. And you have to show this is a general belief among liberals or you have to admit you're wrong here. Anyone I know who's liberal thinks just about anyone who believes any "god" talks to them is off their rocker, myself included. I don't know why you think muslims are somehow excluded.

If you hold a faith, you don't care what others think of it. Christians used to be lion food. I think we can manage this. As long as we are not prevented from living our faith and practicing our religion in our own spaces without interference, I don't think our faith should be at risk to some snide comments and a bad rep.

That said, I do tend to agree with you for once, it seems that hating on Christianity has become one of the last acceptable bigotries for the Left. But if we're honest, and give it a bit of thought, it's quite easy to see that a good chunk of that is our own fault. Sad thing is that if we had actually done what the Bible said, we wouldn't have pissed off anyone. Ah well, it never said we'd be able to be perfect...despite what some Christians would have folks believe.

And that's the problem right there. Its the reason I left religion many decades ago.

Morality with no visible means of support. Taking a free ride on the JudeoChristian tradition.

Nope. Sorry that package doesn't ship here in reason and sanity land. A half decent moral compass doesn't need religious dogma to guide it. Nor does it need to be structured from religious beliefs. If that were the case, you and any other Christian could sit down and 100% agree on subjective, realitive moral beliefs.

I hope we never have a Muslim president or vice president but, if we do, I have no doubt they will not be treated differently if they claim that Allah speaks to them.

Don't forget that both the christian and muslim establishments are controlled by crazy conservatives. A magical world view is not at all threatened by authoritarian politics, like conservatives espouse. It's part and parcel of the same fear based thinking.

I am a conservative and I most emphatically do not espouse authoritarian politics. It is the left that has always sought authority over individuals in favour of the collective. All leftist governments are authoritarian by there very nature. Nor do I refrain from condemning religion: I detest all religions and Islam most of all, for the very reason that it is supremely authoritarian.

An adult that believes in magic beings risks being considered dippy - by me and everyone who has some basic knowledge of the sciences.

Then you're in the minority of conservatives in the US, that's for sure.

BTW, conservative governments are authoritarian in nature too, been to Iraq lately? Can it with the partisan BS. If you can't see what the right does, then really- you're not being objective.

Why should religious faith be a virtue anyway? A choice to believe or disbelief in a deity is almost entirely irrelevant to someone's moral character.

Yeah, why belief in things that don't exist a good thing? In fact, its often a bad thing as so many people think their faith is reality, and refuse to acknowledge the real world around them and think their faith can solve all the problems in the world, instead the cause them.

We can chalk this thread up to another example of christian persecution complex. Golly, its so pathetic. If people are insecure about their religion, maybe start using the logical brains humans have evolved

I have no need to collect evidence, it's not my claim to prove. However I wouldn't accept hearsay such as you suggest as being valid.

The group that persecuted every religion in the world, persecuted everybody not a white male christian in this country for its history, slaughters indians, had slaves, lynched black people, etc etc etc with our deplorable history is going to whine about bigotries of the left? LOL

Because religious people can't defend anything any non religious person has to say so they have to deflect and whine about fake persecution. Gee, like that argument isn't the most lame and unoriginal deflection out there.

Oh, by the way, most liberals are christian. Many aren't assholes about it trying to shove it down everybody's throats and they actually follow the bible and aren't judgemental, and follow what Jesus taught, the basis of the entire religion.

Contrary to the received wisdom of Yankee DPers the US is not the world.

Imo you would be unwise to hold up today's Iraq as an exemplar of a democratic state, one where a word like 'conservative' carries any meaning whatsoever. Conservatives have a core belief: a small, less powerful, state. One where individual freedoms count for more than the collective - quite the opposite of 'authoritarian'. It is the socialists who believe that individiuals may, indeed must, be coerced into obeying their dictats for the good of 'society'.

"Yes, liberals are intolerant of intolerance. "

Then you should practice what you preach, and cease the intolerance against people peacefully practicing their faith.

What the hell is "Peaceful" about the way Mike Pence practices his faith, huh? Clearly he has no problem using his "peaceful" faith to oppress women and gays. Trump has already admitted that Pence would like to "hang them all". This word "peaceful", I don't think you understand what it means.

Pence is a religious fanatic, not a peaceful practitioner. Given the option, he would use his faith as an excuse to subjugate women and homosexuals. That's the kind of religion that has no merit in civil society and it's proper to mock it if not to wipe it out completely. We're spending billions killing fanatics in the middle east but we patronize them here. There is a contradiction in that.

The GOP, especially, is guilty of not reigning in their lunatics and, instead, holding them up as examples of spiritual transcendence, a horrible lie. They are haters and for that I can't pretend to tolerate them.

I'm sorry for you that you didn't have a good turn on this earlier in life. Maybe you can get over it, or at least see your way clear, but perhaps not. I dunno. I suppose all I can do is wish you well.

Thanks for that.

But surely you can accept that not every religious person behaves or treats others as you apparently were treated. Then that'd be painting with a broad brush.

I agree and surely you can accept that the ones who treat others like **** have the same magical reasoning as those who use it as an excuse to do good and there's no way to determine that by the type of symbol they hang around their necks. Until the religious no longer use the god card as a default token of morality, the bad people, like Mike Pence, will continue to use their imagined religious authority to harm others.

Oh no I have full of busy body atheists will think most of the population is dippy. Whatever shall we do?

Behar’s sneer and the applause it received from the studio audience is a nice in-kind contribution to the Trump 2020 campaign.

The cat that just walked by my office door has more faith than Donald J Trump, and I bet he is better at actually living by Christian doctrine.:lamo
