School Shooting--Texting Instead of Surviving

Really? So multiple POPs is not enough to give you a clue that there maybe something gking on? I can understand one but not many.

Gee, “something” is going on. That’s soooo helpful.....except for the where the shots are coming from, how many shooters, is it safe to take a certain route to a certain room, have law enforcement been contacted....and it just goes on and one and on. Frankly, there’s no excuse for failing to inform others if you can do so.

And what have you been doing since the shooting?

I dunno but I know I didn't go to a party at the Maralago' 2 hours after visiting the victims. Doesn't seem just a littttttttle bit awkward to you?

No, it doesn't. Was he supposed to cancel everything for the rest of the day/night? It just so happened to be a party. Could have been a dinner or a speech.

Meanwhile your ilk continue to push your amusingly stupid claim about the “dumbest generation”.

What a joke. The Neo Nazis are the ones driving cars into protestors and shooting up places of worship.

Who happened to be part of the 'dumbest generation'

Eh, don't worry to much. You want mindboggling stupidity, think President Trump. Many generations will be able to point to us and say "at least we weren't that dumb".

So you think Trump is a socialist too?

This thread strikes the lowest blow that it is possible to strike.

This thread strikes the lowest blow that it is possible to strike.

Yup. Beyond disgraceful. Victim blaming at it's finest.

Those texts from some of the 14 year old kids are heartbreaking, hiding in the classrooms and bathrooms, while they can hear gun shots outside, texting their parents, scared, in shock, telling their parents they love them, parents responding telling them to hide, hang in there, which is obviously the smart thing to do in that situation.

How anyone could have an issue with that is just beyond me.

The only difference between the kids you are talking about and similar kids decades ago is they had phones. The majority of kids back then would run or hide. The only difference here is while hiding they were able to text their loved ones.

Yes, this.

You have a point.

1970s.... shop class. Technically it is against the rules to carry a knife at school. Shop teacher starts to cut something, can't find his knife, says 'Somebody loan me a knife for a second."

Well four of us are standing around, and we look at him funny. "Oh don't give me that!" he snaps. "I know somebody has a knife!"

Somewhat sheepishly, three out of four pull out a pocket knife, most of them 3-4" blade lock-backs, and offer them. He picks one, uses it, hands it back. "Just make sure you don't use 'em on each other," he says.

I was number four. I had one too, but I didn't trust him enough to admit to it.

Spanish class-1977. The teacher, a rotund British fellow (with some serious military service background we only learned of later) was getting ready for mid term exams. Pulls out a stack of bound "blue books" and says- Bloody hell, someone took the scissors-anyone have a pocket knife so I can cut the bloody bands (straps around the stack of blue books). Several of us reach into ou pockets but the closest boy-from a uber wealthy family, pops out an Italian Switchblade he had obtained during a Christmas ski trip to Switzerland. The teach cuts the bands and takes the knife and throws into a piece of plywood that was part of some temporary repair of a wall that was being replaced (the knife stuck perfectly) and looked at the boy and said-If you are going to carry a knife like that, I'd expect you'd learn how to keep it sharp!

no one ever got stabbed at our school.

LOL!

I respect all your opinions, but it is entirely valid to point out that anyone who texts when they should be taking action to blockade doors or avoid and evade is making the ultimate in stupid decisions.

Now that the same students have suddenly become experts on gun control this assignment of ignorance is even more important.

These poor urban selfie-taking juveniles have been brainwashed from birth by helicopter parents, the Rainbow People and the Urban Media.

All they know is.......GUNS ARE BAD!

They have no facts to back up their babble.

Sound and Fury Signifying Nothing.......words never more applicable.

No, the Dumbest Generation are the people who actively support enemies of the United States like the Confederacy and Nazi Germany.

Interestingly enough, this generation overwhelmingly has rejected that.

Why did you use the present tense here when neither the Confederacy nor Nazi Germany exist anymore?

I was amazed to hear on this morning's news.....story after story of kids TEXTING as the shooting was going on.

Instead of working out ways to survive.......escape or concealment or barricading or defense or attack on the shooter......they were TEXTING each other about the fact that there was an active shooter.

Mindboggling stupidity.

A total lack of awareness and contact with the real world.

Their world, apparently, is restricted to their phone.......they just don't relate to reality.

This is the generation that will be running things in 20 or 30 years.

God help them.

Too many of our youth are like the Borg, without their data link-up they are useless.

This is our fault, we do a really bad job of raising adults.

Florida school shooting: Teen turned human shield

A teenage footballplayer caught up in the Florida school shooting used his body as a shield to protect fellow students from the gunman’s bullets in a heroic act, it has emerged.
Anthony Borges, 15, who is recovering from multiple gunshot wounds, protected classmates at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland during the February 14 shooting rampage, fellow student Carlos Rodriguez told the Good Morning America TV show.

Borges was the last of 20 students who fled into a class room. With the gunman approaching and firing wildly, he continued to try and lock the door, Rodriguez said. He remained in the doorway despite being repeatedly shot. None of the students seeking sanctuary were hurt. Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel visited Anthony Borges in the hospital, and posted an emotional photo shaking the teen’s hand on Facebook.

He has such a long road ahead. 15 Years old.

Some of the commentary in this thread is beyond disgraceful.

I don't know how else to put it, so I'll adapt a quote that always hits home when I read it (from a fictional work): Praise him. Praise him with great praise!

There is some hope for the future....

I don't know what else to say. He is a better person than most.

Right? Maybe they were texting their parents. Maybe they were trying to contact siblings who are in the same school, to see if they were safe. Maybe they were contacting law enforcement.

This "get off my lawn" generation is ridiculous. "Oh these dumb kids these days." These "dumb kids" are going through a hell of a lot more than they did when they were kids. They are under a lot more pressure, and hazards of drugs and STDs outweigh what they went through, probably 4 to 1. If not more.

It’s really nothing more than armchair whining from people sitting in complete safety. The OP, of course, has a long history of such behavior so I guess it’s no surprise.

2nd post. May be a new forum record.

Gunshots are a pretty good clue that someone is coming to kill you--unless you're totally clueless......hate to burst your bubble, but that's a fact.

Look, that was a three-story school with 3,000 students and the fire alarm blasting. Damn right those kids used their phones to alert others what was going on when they actually were close enough to hear gunfire over that turmoil, not to mention texting their family/friends to tell them where they were hunkered down.

WTF is wrong with you?? Blaming victims for not throwing a chair at a guy blasting them with a AR 15 firing dozens of rounds or more per minute?? Snap out of it!!

You snap out of it. The fire alarm was shut down almost immediately.

Most schools have a basement, first floor and second floor. Apparently you have no experience with firearms and you don't know how loud the AR-15 is.......it's VERY loud.

With that gunfire on the first floor it would be easily heard on every level.
