If The Solution To Mass Shootings Is More Guns...

...then why don't we just arm all the students? Why should they have to depend on the teachers or a few armed security members to do the protecting? Shouldn't the students have a right to protect themselves? Let's take the arguments of the NRA and the GOA to their logical conclusion...

Nice strawman...

Maybe because they are minors. I think an armed, trained security professional would work far better. No?

As for a sensible new gun law that would have actually prevented this attack, how about raising the age to purchase a gun to 21.

What change happens at age 21 that makes someone worthy of owning a firearm??

Depends on the culture. This is relatively a new phenomenon. Before Pearl, it was and even for awhile after not strange for students to have guns or knives at school. Never had any issues.

I remember the day in 4th grade when a kid accidentally broke the pencil sharpener. The kids who had pocket knives shared them with the kids who didn't. The only kid who into any trouble was the one who didn't clean up the shavings from sharpening his pencil. Amazingly enough no one at my school ever got stabbed. I do remember one kid in High School who threatened a friend of mine with a pocket knife. We all jumped him, took away his knife, gave him an atomic wedgie and left him head down in a trash can. The next day, he joined us for lunch and apologized. We shook hands and went out that weekend got drunk together.

People with guns don't shoot other people with guns so it may just work! Look at how well it works for rival gangs! Most of them probably have guns just to keep the peace amongst the gangs since the understanding is that since everyone has a gun, no one shoots. Brilliant strategy!

So, everyone with guns cancels out all violence. Finally, peace on Earth...

Criminal gangs almost never shoot at armed targets. They wait until they know that their target is unarmed so that they don't shoot back.

The gangsters you refer to are not ‘progun’ because of leftist policies but because of the urban/gang culture. But nice try.

Who cares what the reason is? Fake News want you to think the only gun nuts are conservatives, and you swallowed that nothingburger. There are dozens of millions of South Americans, Africans, African Americans, Arabs, Europeans, Eastern Europeans and illegal immigrants on top of the dozens of millions of prisoners, gang members, ex gang members, bikies, thugs, thieves, rapists, ex-felons and so on, who love guns and want them readily available. They nearly all support the Dems. They are the ten thousand herds of elephants in the room. Even the redneck hillbillies who worship guns are mostly NOT Republicans. They are a motley collection of libertarians, non-voters, Nazis, semi-literate bootleggers and nerf-herders who don't know what a vote looks like.

Only a small minority say that. Many of them are libertarian rednecks and are very loud online. I've had to deal with them for decades. Some are so extreme they want ex-prisoners to have any guns they like, and even bigger weapons, like rocket propelled grenades, etc. They are so far gone it's fair to say they're obsessed with guns.

The President of the United States is saying it. This isn't a minority opinion.

I don't think anyone has said that "the solution to mass shootings is more guns". But hey...hyperbole gets you noticed, doesn't it?

That's literally the NRA's stance on this. More guns, in the hands of teachers.

shrug...

I don't follow the NRA. Can you give me a quote of their stance?

So...his solution isn't "more guns". It's "good guys with guns". Seems a bit different that what you contend. Seems a whole lot different than what the OP contends.

The point is, nobody is just saying we need more guns in schools. They are saying we need more people in schools who are properly trained and motivated to use guns to protect the students.

Perhaps you don't perceive that distinction?

You're inventing a separate distinction that nobody was contending in the first place. Is there a reason you chose to do this?

I didn't invent anything. I repeated and expanded on what LaPierre...and others such as Trump...said.

You've invented some alternate version where "more guns in schools" means arming the students or some nonsense. That's not what anybody is talking about. We're all talking about arming teachers. Hope this helps.

What???

You know what...you should probably go back to the beginning of this thread...to the OP...and start over. You obviously have no idea who is saying what around here.

Get back to me, if you want, after you get up to speed.

Nobody cares about OP's dumb idea.

The President of the United States is saying it. This isn't a minority opinion.

He's saying qualified teachers could have guns, and that wouldn't hurt. He's not saying what the minority of rednecks say; that lots of people in schools, including students, ought to be armed.

Are any teachers qualified to law-enforcement levels?

Who cares what the reason is?

Apparently you do.

Fake News want you to think the only gun nuts are conservatives, and you swallowed that nothingburger.

Could you point out even one link where the media said only redneck conservative gun nuts have guns? 16 year old gangsters don't have the luxury to concern themselves over liberal/conservative politics. Their only concern is every day survival.

Conservatives want to make it easier to get a gun for just about all those groups.

They nearly all support the Dems.

Lol, Africans and Eastern Europeans support the Dems? This is getting silly.

Even the redneck hillbillies who worship guns are mostly NOT Republicans. They are a motley collection of libertarians, non-voters, Nazis, semi-literate bootleggers and nerf-herders who don't know what a vote looks like.

In other words, they are conservatives.
