Colorado wants to issue their own green cards, except they’re purple

Hey, that's states rights for you. When our federal immigration and work visa systems have backlogs so long that some people have to wait a decade to get processed, it's about time the states stepoed up and dealt with their own economic situations.

If I didn't live in Colorado and if I didn't already have some knowledge about the idiots that get voted to the State Legislature, I'd have to wonder about the sanity of the people proposing this nonsense. The reality is, though, I don't have to wonder. I already know.

'Looper, even though he's a Dem, doesn't suffer the same level of insanity those others do. I sure hope he injects some sense and reality into this issue.

You want to talk stupid, a green card is a term for a card showing legal residence. It's original color was white, not green. Doh

Jesus christ, the stupid stuff some of you look for to poopoo on others is so ridiculous, and you end up making yourself look bad

And yet, all people like you can do is say "these people are stupid poopyheads" and you can't provide any reasoning or argument why. I think that shows really where the idiocy lies

Are these people stupid, or just don't give a ****?

No, they're smart. They know these people are good for their economies. They know they're not leaving regardless of what bull**** Trump says so it's better to make them legal residents of the state to ensure that they're paying taxes, not working on the black market, and are willing to cooperate with local authorities when necessary.

Whatever happened to States rights anyway? If the Federal government won't reform our immigration system then you leave the states no choice, but to do it themselves. If Colorado has no problem with more immigrants coming to their state why is that any of your business?

The article gave the reasons. Read it.

When these "legal residents of the state" (LOL!!) get picked up and deported, there won't be a damned thing the state can do about it.

But, do they know it's illegal? :lamo

States rights? The Constitution doesn't give the states naturalization authority.

Immigration really should be a national level issue.

But it fascinates me how quickly and on a dime you people turn when it comes to the idea of states' rights. It's another example on how Conservatives are confused anymore about their identities.

In the mean time, what's Texas' secession mood this week?

There are powers the states have and there are powers the states don't have. Naturalization is one of the powers they don't have.

I'm one of those Conservatives who never supported a state's violation of The Constitution.

Those "legal residents" are going to be mad as **** when they get deported, after the state of Colorado told them they're legal residents...lol

And yet, no argument from you again. That's the deflection of someone who has nothing "OH, go read my argument for me"

Why do you people even bother posting on message boards if you are incapable and too lazy to actually make an argument?

You probably thought you were being smart LOL

By law? Just asking. I don't know either way.

How are you seeing this as Constitutionally only on the national level? Our government has made immigration law and have actually designed what we want immigrants to look like here and there (especially starting in the 1920s), but I don't know that it goes back to a Constitutional issue that reserves that power solely to the national government. It seems to be one of those challengeable issues that just has never really been challenged.

Here's why they can't do it:

Article 1, Section 8, Clause 4

To establish a uniform rule of naturalization, and uniform laws on the subject of bankruptcies throughout the United States;

The Constitution gives Congress the power to make laws regarding naturalization:

Article 1, Section 8, Clause 4

To establish a uniform rule of naturalization, and uniform laws on the subject of bankruptcies throughout the United States;

Sounds like a good idea, the States will know who is working in their State and those wanting to do it the legal way will have a real opportunity to do so.

Sounds like an illegal idea.

Work permits and naturalization are two different topics, you know that right?

This isn't a work permit:

Colorado would have its own version of a “green card” under legislation at the state capitol.

It would be called a “purple card.”

Some state lawmakers say if Congress won’t reform the immigration system, they will. Their bill would allow anyone who has paid state taxes for at least two years and hasn’t had a felony in three years to be eligible for legal status.

When these "legal residents of the state" (LOL!!) get picked up and deported, there won't be a damned thing the state can do about it.

And you are going to have to hire a whole lot more ICE agents, something they have been hard pressed to accomplish. If the Feds say the State has no right to delve in immigration issues then they may well simply say that if that is the case they will no longer report illegals that come into their custody or hold them for the Feds, see how simple that is......

What does "legal status" mean?
That they have the right to live and work in that State, not really all that complicated to grasp.

We shall see, that will be up to the courts.

It's illegal. The people supporting the bill should know that, without going to court. It's their job to know. This proposed bill means they don't know, or don't give a ****. Both are unacceptable.
