That's what needs investigating. But even if it did not come from campaign funds, it's an illegal campaign contribution. It's like Cohen handed trump an envelope with $130k. That's bribery. Trump should be impeached.

There is suspicion about it coming from the transition money that is missing and trump is silent on paying anything.

Regardless, Trump broke the law. Cohen's payment to the porn star was an illegal donation to Trump's campaign. It was an unreported cash donation to Donald Trump's campaign which was intentionally disguised using shell companies.

Trump and his lawyer should be charged. We have laws. What was done is illegal.

A watchdog group filed a pair of complaints on Monday alleging that a $130,000 payment reportedly made to a pornographic film actress who claims to have had an affair with Donald Trump violated campaign finance laws.

In submissions to the Justice Department and the Federal Election Commission, Common Cause said the alleged payment to Stephanie Clifford — who uses the stage name Stormy Daniels — amounted to an in-kind donation to Trump's presidential campaign that should have been publicly disclosed in its official reports.

An attorney for Common Cause, Paul Ryan, said the payment appeared to be hush money. He compared the situation to the series of events that resulted in the prosecution of former Sen. John Edwards (D-N.C.) over nearly $1 million in payments allegedly made to cover up an affair he had with videographer Rielle Hunter during his 2008 presidential bid.

“The purpose is the heart of all this,” Ryan said. “It’s pretty obvious this payment to Ms. Clifford was intended to keep her quiet just weeks before the election so she would not damage the candidate’s effort to win the election.”

Think about it this way:

Do you want a world where wealthy people can pay hush money on behalf of politicians? Isn't that a form of bribery? Now the politician not only owes the donor but the donor has information that he can blackmail the politician with. That's swamp territory.

Here is what you may not get; the GOP has made the choice for decades to tether itself to the Christian right & the so called 'Jesus vote' in the US

the GOP made this choice to portray themselves as the 'morality' party, which Trump has certainly done himself; I mean for ****s sake, he parades around folks like Franklin Graham & all of these other Christian endorsers that heap praise upon Trump as if Trump were Jesus.

The Democrats don't even play that ****; the GOP sure does though.

So, the GOP has been playing the Jesus card for decades & now the GOP has an adulterous sexual abuser in The White House that Franklin Graham thinks is a great POTUS for Christians.

What a ****ing joke ................ but I guess you didn't get the joke ............

It is actually blasphemous for the GOP (or anyone else) to utilize 'the cross' for political gain, which is all the GOP has done with Jesus.

All of these folks might wanna think about that, if they are true 'believers' before they meet their maker .............. it could get HOT ..........

I recall plenty of right wingers expressing moral outrage about Bill Clinton's beej.



Anyway, the thing is, a crime actually was committed if the funds the lawyer says were his own were campaign funds. I'm not a campaign funds law expert, but I'd wager that the funds need not transfer directly from campaign coffers to the person. I'd wager something like: Campaign pays lawyer $X for "services rendered during campaign" at various times. Lawyer pays off Daniels and doesn't have a plausible explanation for why the hell he would pay $130,000 on a client's behalf, then you have some circumstantial evidence.

In other words, he gave $130k to Donald Trump and didn't report it. That's illegal. Trump should be impeached. Almost any candidate would be impeached over this. Edwards was prosecuted over the same thing.
