How many more of these stories before we get realistic on what kind of dollars should go to defense?

Pentagon Loses Track of $800 Million

The Defense Logistics Agency has 25,000 employees and processes 100,000 orders a day from the military and other federal agencies, for everything from food and fuel to maps and medical supplies.

According to Politico, the $40 billion-a-year logistics agency failed to document construction projects worth $800 million in 2016 alone, raising serious questions about the ongoing audit of the Pentagon that is scheduled to be completed this year.

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA), who has long pushed for a comprehensive audit of the Defense Department, said, “If you can’t follow the money, you aren’t going to be able to do an audit.”

It's much more important to find out what welfare family "A", that receives maybe $900.00 a month, is spending that on.

I should be surprised, but I am not. And I agree that our defense spending is out of control and getting worse the further we go.

There's no excuse for misplacing 800 million dollars. Let's get a top auditing team in there and find where that money went. It's not just a problem for military spending -- it's across the board.

I'm all about auditing the DoD but I can see how that'd be hard when so much of it about being covert. We just gotta unchain this idiotic political notion that more money to the DoD means more patriotic than the others. It's basically a political platform many run on and it's ridiculous.

I read about this. Apparently they have no idea where the money went, so an audit won't help. Here are some government employees who really do need to be given the old heave ho

i dont have an issue with cleaning house at the pentagon, and at any place in the government where it is commonplace to misuse, or outright abuse the trust of the american people

i want the troops that we send into god forsaken places armed with the best, and most up to date equipment....and i really dont want it to be close to the "other guy"

but at the same time, we as a nation have to determine what our role will be going forward. Will it be the "big stick in the world" that goes into nation building exercises. and protects countries that literally have no defense of their own

will we continue to lead NATO...and be the first ones in, and the last ones to leave areas. And where we are picking up the bill for such excursions at the same time?

i think it is high time we get a consensus of who and what we want our military to do, and what their mission will be

based on that consensus, we can start to make wise choices on the spending levels....and still keep a good edge for our guys

What we really need to know is if this is the tip of the iceberg, or if this is all. If its the tip, we need to take good long look at our military. If this is all considering the size of our military spending, I am not surprised.

I agree with the military having the best. I remember being told during the invasion of Iraq that you fight with what you have and soldiers died because of the lack of necessary equipment.
