Yep! You read that right! According to Time Magazine, in January 2013 Page met with a Russian diplomat who was later identified and charged as a Russian intelligence agent. The FBI approached Page in June 2013 and warned him that they thought that Russian intelligence was trying to recruit him, and he essentially blew them off. Two months later he sent a letter to some academics wherein he stated:
“Over the past half year, I have had the privilege to serve as an informal advisor to the staff of the Kremlin in preparation for their Presidency of the G-20 Summit next month, where energy issues will be a prominent point on the agenda,”
The Time article states that the FBI has been watching him off-and-on ever since.
Bearing this information in mind - and combined with all the other meetings and contacts that the Trump campaign falsely claimed never happened - exactly how are we supposed to think it was either unconstitutional or biased for the FBI to continue FISA surveillance on Carter Page as the Nunes memo seems to claim? Especially since the continuation of the FISA warrant was pushed by none other than Trump appointee Rosenstein?
But I guess all this is just "fake news" too, since it shows that Trump and his staff are only trying to tear down the FBI to protect themselves, rather than allowing the FBI to do its job...which is precisely what the FBI had been doing all along. They aren't perfect - no human organization can ever be perfect - but they are one of the very best. It's just strange that now it's the we-love-law-and-order Right that's whining about the FBI, while it's the police-can't-always-be-trusted Left that's defending the FBI!
