It's a big nothing. The claim the warrant on Carter Page didn't disclose that the Steele dossier was funded by Hillary. A big nothing. The FBI had a ton of reasons to be suspicious of Carter Page.

The four-page, newly declassified memo written by the Republican staffers for the House Intelligence Committee said the findings “raise concerns with the legitimacy and legality of certain (Justice Department) and FBI interactions with the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISC),’’ calling it “a troubling breakdown of legal processes established to protect the American people from abuses related to the FISA process.’’

The memo accuses former officials who approved the surveillance applications – a group that includes former FBI Director James B. Comey, his former deputy Andrew McCabe, former deputy attorney general Sally Yates and current Deputy Attorney General Rod J. Rosenstein — of signing off on court surveillance requests that omitted key facts about the political motivations of the person supplying some of the information, Christopher Steele, a former intelligence officer in Britain.

Nunes is a clown. He makes these grand announcements and they turn out to be nothing.

Its a ... what could we call this ? ... oh yeah!!!!! Its a big huge gigantic....

NOTHING BURGER!!!!!!

What I don't get is this attacking the funding of the Steel Dossier. Regardless of who paid for the dossier research, they paid an expert to find information. They didn't pay him to make stuff up. His reputation is based on the accuracy of his information.

What matters are the qualifications of the investigator not who paid him.

It reveals that an unvetted dossier was the basis of several fisa warrants. The argument is going to be fruit from the poison tree for trump. Likely that charges will be filed against people who knowingly and intentionally deceived the courts. But yeah it's a big nothing burger lol

In what world do you live in?

memo states disputed dossier was key to FBI’s FISA warrant to surveil members of Team Trump

A memo that shows alleged government surveillance abuse has been released and includes testimony from a high-ranking government official who says without the infamous Trump dossier, the FBI and DOJ would not have secured surveillance warrants to spy on at least one member of the Trump team.

House memo states disputed dossier was key to FBI?s FISA warrant to surveil members of Team Trump | Fox News

The FISA judge renewed the warrant a few times, because there was something there. This is just a Meh-mo, republican talking points.

*sigh*

The WaPo article literally links to the memo.

Cable TV News =/= "The Media", though I wouldn't be surprised if I were to go poking and find links to it on ABC,CNN, NBC, etc. But I'm not going to bother because the definition that right wing media (and many people on the right) uses for "MSM" is intentionally and dishonestly super-restrictive.

Did you read the memo?

In it, Comey characterizes the dossier as "salacious and unverified".

It is subsequently used to gain a FISA Warrant leading to this whole witch hunt.

The Memo states pretty clearly that the Dossier was funded by Hillary and the DNC. It is a made up hit piece commissioned by one set of politicians to attack another.

What are you talking about?

We live in the world called 'reality' actually.

It's just as I expected. There isn't even a shred of evidence indicating any abuse at the FBI, just Nunes making claims with nothing to back that up with but "LOOK, SCARY OBAMA OFFICIALS!" and hoping that does the trick.

It doesn't even come within the galaxy of saying what Nunes and the House Republicans claimed it said. In fact, it give details that allude to probable cause again and again, without anything from Nunes explaining what the cause for the renewals of the FISA warrants was.

Sorry, its a dud.

Yup, you don't see the right wingers addressing why the warrants got renewed. They got renewed because they continued to find compelling evidence.

And they want to pretend that it was Steele which was the basis for the warrant - which ignores years of contact between Page and Russian operatives who repeatedly tried to recruit him - and perhaps did. And there is no reason to believe that information was not available to the FISA court and in fact helped get the warrant. The Democrat reply to the Nunes travesty will most likely document this.

What makes you think the dossier is accurate? Steele is a discredited, former employee.

And, they presented evidence about Papadopolous....that is why the judge granted the warrant.

Huge whiff by the right wing.

So far, there is nothing to indicate that the memo is anything but a politically motivated hit piece commissioned by one set of politicians to attack another.

It was believed and relied upon by the same geniuses that were convinced that Saddam had WMD.

You have nailed it.

However, the nothing burger is the foundation of the current witch hunt.

It was part of the link to WaPo in the OP.

It just confirms a long held belief that the FBI used bogus evidence to get a FISA warrant.... whether that is a big deal to you or not, I guess that depends on how much you want it to be or not.

Good for them they should be posting links to it. I was just guessing and said as much. I'm watching msnbc and they are too busy attacking the people who released it to bother debunking the claims the memo makes.

“The entire premise of its insuffiency is the fact that the FBI/DOJ didn’t tell the FISC that Steele was biased against Trump,” he writes. “So the hell what? They’re not REQUIRED to reveal that in every case. Unless that bias somehow renders the information, in and of itself, unreliable, it doesn’t matter if Steele wore a ‘I’m with Hillary’ button. It’s irrelevant.”

Moss then went on to note that the Nunes memo confusingly admits that the FBI first launched its investigation into the Trump campaign based on the drunken boasts of former Trump campaign aide George Papadopoulos, who bragged to an Australian diplomat that he knew the Russian government would release dirt on rival Hillary Clinton.

And, they presented evidence about Papadopolous....that is why the judge granted the warrant.

Huge whiff by the right wing.

This is really much ado about nothing. The shocking thing is how little there is here that we have not already heard for months from the right wing apologists for Trump. This is really just rehashed stuff that has already been refuted or explained.

And to think Trump was willing to endanger professionals just to try and win a news cycle - if he even gets that as this thing is being shredded on TV right before our eyes and it only been a hour.

I suppose we'll find that out.

Right now, all we are sure of is that the judge renewed the warrant.

I would like to see the warrant as well and know exactly what was used to secure it.

If the Steele Dossier was instrumental in any way in securing the warrant, it and anything it led to needs to be thrown away.

Muldoon and the Gang That Won't Shoot Straight are playing a charade that looks legal but is a terrifying perversion of our system.

This travesty is the most frightening abuse of power by our government that has occurred in my life time.
