This thread is due to an assertion by Conservative that Obama has told more lies in his first year of office than Trump has. I didn't want to derail a thread and get into a discussion of lies there, so I created this thread specifically as a contest to see who really is the liar in chief.

Personally, I think Trump is the real champ, but maybe Conservative is correct. We'll see.

So, this is s thread to post lies told by Obama in the first year, and Trump to date. Let's see who wins the Liar Award.

I'll kick it off:

Trump: “A reporter for Time magazine — and I have been on their cover 14 or 15 times. I think we have the all-time record in the history of Time magazine.”

Obama: "We import more oil today than ever before."

There you go. The contest is even right now. Let's see who wins the race though.

If it comes to counting lies, doesn't magnitude, impact and frequency all have to be taken into account?

Braggadocio doesn't count for much, where as lies about fact, or what ends up to be fact, would certainly have to be rated as a more egregious lie, wouldn't they?

I suppose we could rate the lies on a one to ten scale, but that would be pretty subjective. How do we gauge the egregiousness of a lie?

How many times did Trump say Mexico was going to pay for the wall, yet he is asking for BILLIONS (yes with a "B") for it. That doesn't sound like Mexico is paying for it to me.

Hasn’t happened yet, so we cannot count it as a lie yet can we?

If someone brags about how big their dick is, I really don't care, and it doesn't hurt anyone.

If someone promises huge reductions in a common house hold expense that ends up being even more expensive, that is damaging (just two examples off the top of my head).

Yet a example might be a promise and assurance that there isn't a smidgen of corruption, when later revealed being rife with corruption (I dunno, how damaging is federal government corruption?)

Seems like this is far more a multi-varied, multi-aspect measurement challenge than what it might initially appear to be.

What do you mean it hasn't happened, he's demanding money NOW from congress. So yeah, it's a lie.

The affordable care act is not a tax.

Trump has clearly exaggerated and lied more than Obama. Frivolous lies - vs - lies that hurt or effect people is more important.

Well, there are some who would disagree with that statement.\

If the ACA weren't ruled a tax, then it would have been unconstitutional, as the government can't force anyone to buy something they don't want, unless its a tax.

Anyone who thinks Obama lied anywhere near as much as Trump is an idiot.

Promising the people of The United States that can keep their plan, keep their doctor and save $2500 under Obamacare is a pretty egregious lie. Yes?

It's not a lie, if he believed it while saying it.

He said we will build it and get money back from them in different ways.
So if we pay for it now then get money later it wouldn’t be a lie would it, so we can’t us that one yet ,now go get your crayons and play in the corner.

It wasn't a lie, if he believed it when he said. Calamity says so.

Oh, is that it? :lamo

Thank you!!!

Yeah, you point to one reference Obama made in a speech, on an issue that could easily have changed over the ensuing years after he said it before ACA kicked in, while ignoring countless, outright lies told by Trump, almost all of which were proven to be lies within hours of him saying or tweeting them.

It's funny how you people go back and forth on what constitutes a lie, depending who said it.

Don't change...really.

It's funny that you have to point to one misstatement by Obama while ignoring over 200 outright lies by Trump.

Yeah, it's always a "misstatement" when Obama does it.
