right here in the good old USA, where the Congress can't come up with a budget. The best they can do is partisan gamesmanship and sniping, but can't do their Constitutionally required duty of formulating a budget.

Republicans like to say that the Democrats want to help illegal aliens, but don't care about our military, and there is some truth to that. The Democrats like to point out that the Republicans have a majority, which is true, but not a strong enough one to pass a budget over objections by Democrats. Then, there is the issue of the Great Wall of Trump, which Democrats claim is holding up the budget. In reality, neither of those peripheral issues should prevent a budget from being done, but they shut the government down amidst finger pointing and blame gaming.

We, the people, have an obligation to replace as many of the incumbents that are engaging in this childishness to the detriment of our nation as possible by voting the rascals out regardless of their preferred political party. We won't, of course, since we seem to identify more closely with being Democrats and Republicans than with being Americans.

It's a lot like people who insist on being hyphenated Americas: I'm an African-American, a Hispanic- American, a Whatever - American. Now, it's a Democrat - American, a Republican - American, a conservative, a liberal, a whatever.

What a sorry situation this is. The last time the country was this divided it was over the war in Vietnam. Once we finally gave up and pulled out of that morass, it seemed we were once again able to work together for a while.

What, exactly, is it we're divided over now? Let's pull out of whatever it is and start acting like Americans again. That should be a way to make America Great Again instead of heading down the road toward third world status.

Because they blew their "budget reconciliation" load on "tax reform," the Senate Republicans are directly faced with their worst nightmare: They must compromise with Democrats. You see, "compromise" is a very, very, very dirty word these days. In too many people's minds, compromise is equivalent of capitulation to the enemy. What people who feel that way don't understand is that compromise is how you get things done.

For that to work then everything needs to be packaged into one giant "laws of the this congressional session" bill. Otherwise, every bill could be held hostage to some new demand from the minority party to ever clear the Senate.

Compromise about what?

The continuing resolution (CR) that the Democrats under Schumer refuse to vote for has nothing that needs a "compromise." They already agree to everything that is in it being necessary to continue government funding for a short period of time.

The issue of Immigration is distinct from this budget resolution. In short, there is no reason for the Democrats to balk at voting for this budget except to make a scene and try to force Trump to give in on DACA without them having to concede to his demands for Immigration reform.

So please explain just what needs to be "compromised" regarding this budget resolution.

You are conveniently leaving out the fact that the Republicans control Congress. You are leaving out the fact that they knew this was coming, they knew that a potential government shutdown was coming, yet they dillydallied and wasted their continuing resolution play on "tax reform." It is just like Republicans to preach the gospel of "personal responsibility" while refusing to take it themselves.

Maybe if the Republicans would stop pointing fingers all the time, they might be able to listen to the very points that are trying to be made to them!

Maybe. But the Republicans should have thought about that when they were the minority party for 3/4ths of Obama's time in office. They set the precedent for this and are feigning outrage that the same tactics are now being used against them.

Americans took the first step in draining the swamp when they elected Trump. The job won't be done until Americans take the next step of replacing those Congressional Elites you speak of who are doing the finger pointing and blame gaming while they shut down the government.

Its easier to get real outrage when shutdowns have real impacts. It also saves the trouble of blocking off access to parks and monuments to stir up intentionally created (fake?) outrage.

You are conveniently leaving out the fact that the Republicans control Congress...

Like CNN's Jim Acosta, you are conveniently leaving out the fact that while Republicans have a majority in both Houses, it take 60 votes in the Senate to pass this legislation.

There are 51 Republicans in the Senate. It takes nine more bi-partisan votes to pass the continuing resolution.

Perhaps this video reminder will help you?

More cherry-picking of the facts by you. Remind me, CA, why Congress needs 60 and not 50+VP votes? Specifically, what the Republicans did last month to make that happen?

Maybe if your president had taken the deal offered to him a few days ago and then not suddenly flip-flopped on it, we might not be having this conversation.

Mcconnell is trying to shift part of the blame to Trump, saying he wants to know what trump would agree too, and he is confused, because trump is both for and against some attempts to be bi-partisan at the same time.

Nope. Diversion.

The Continuing Resolution has nothing in it that the Democrats are opposed to. You keep ignoring that.

Now if the bill had gone forward and Mr. Trump vetoed it? Then it would be his fault and him rightly to blame.

Since the Dems opted to make it an issue before a possible veto, it is rightly called the Schumer shutdown.

I knew it. I knew you wouldn't accept responsibility for what the Republicans did with the tax bill. So typical of Republican supporters. So many of them preach the gospel of "personal responsibility" but refuse to follow it themselves.

Let's get one thing straight right here: It is a fact that had not the Republicans blown their "continuing resolution" play on the tax bill, we wouldn't be in this mess. To argue against that point is to argue against a fact.

Nope. Your president is supposed to be a master dealmaker, remember? He's supposed to be the one that would "drain the swamp," "burn it to the ground," or whatever cute catchphrase your side uses nowadays. The Trump Shutdown could come to a close if this president would actually be a president for a change.

America will never become a third world nation, save the event of a nuclear war. Even our poorest of the poor are still rich compared to middle-class Africans.
Furthermore, our political situation is only causing a stall in the government that we the people have no representation or even power over.
Ideally, the people would organize into a popular front and demand concessions and changes from the government, but people are much too content to care. Plus, the polarization between liberals and conservatives (which will probably be forever) in this country will prevent that from happening.
