[h=1]Steve Bannon: Former Trump aide strikes deal to avoid grand jury appearance in Russia probe[/h]

Former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon has struck a deal to speak with special counsel Robert Mueller and his team investigating Russia's meddling in the 2016 election.
Mr Bannon, who was recently disavowed by President Donald Trump, will discuss his time with the Trump campaign and White House directly with the investigators, and will bypass questioning in front of a grand jury.

Will he tell Mueller that the Russia probe is all a witch hunt? What do you think?

You don't just strike a deal with a Special Counsel to avoid a Grand Jury over a Nothing burger. And the Special Counsel wouldn't strike a deal with someone who could potentially face serious criminal charges over a nothing burger.

What I would like to know is how Trump can tell Bannon not to answer any questions, and that not be considered obstruction of justice.

Wow with Bannon nails Trump with Fire and Fury

Or a deal was never struck to start with, he has nothing useful to a grand jury and is just being questioned.

I thought Flynn had flipped and Trump would be heading to prison by now

They might if they were after bigger fish. Toss that five pounder back. There are some 20 pounders in there just waiting to be caught. Maybe even a 239 pounder.

I don't think Mueller really cares about Bannon's remarks that the meetings campaign members took with Kremlin figures were 'treasonous'.

What is far more likely is that Mueller wants Bannon to answer why he believes Trump was involved in the meeting with the Russian "lawyer", as well why Bannon believes there is a connection between Manafort, Kushner, Trump, Deutsche bank, and money laundering.

The comments in 'Fire and Fury' are for sure what sparked this subpoena.

If the Congress issues a subpoena to Bannon that he answer their questions, and the WH orders that Bannon not answer them, the WH could be held in contempt of Congress. But I must say that's a fat chance with the red elephants in charge though.

Mueller however, has complete authority, as 'US vs Nixon' settled that issue long ago, so Bannon can be issued a contempt charge by Mueller if he plays games. Of course, Bannon will spill his guts to Mueller, as Trump's public humiliation of him burned that bridge for good.

What an odd thing to think. Since there have been no criminal proceedings in terms of a trial or sentencing, why would you have thought that?

Whoopsie.

No I don't think so--his comments are already out in Michael Wolff's book "fire & fury" and he hasn't denied any of those comments. Most important is he stated this is all about the Money Laundering with Duetsche bank. Mueller has already subpeonaed records from that bank.

Bannon & Trump have been eating each other with comments. Trump Jr. attacked Bannon bascially calling him a low life. Trump has been fired from the White house & Briebart--and he has always loathed Jerad Kushner. It may be payback time.

Mueller already has a ton of evidence, so I doubt Bannon is stupid enough to walk in there and lie about anything. If he does, he'll get charged with perjury or obstruction of justice-and then he would most certainly end up in front of the Grand Jury.

Like Flynn & Papadopoulos, Bannon may have decided that the best thing to do is with work with Mueller.

I've also read speculation (because that's all we have) that Mueller might be most interested Bannon's insight into Cambridge Analytica. Bannon did come on a bit late for a lot of the stuff under investigation, but he's very tied to Mercer, and was an officer in CA.

Just as an aside, it's always been CA and related stuff that scares me going forward. They and existing or coming Democratic counterparts use the data we willingly give up online on Twitter and Facebook and elsewhere to develop incredibly accurate profiles of who were are and how to push our buttons to manipulate our opinions and votes. It's legitimately worrying to me long term. We all like to think we're immune from propaganda, and we're all wrong about that.

And for the record, that link goes to an AP tweet saying:

BREAKING: AP Sources says Steve Bannon's attorney relayed questions to White House during Bannon's House interview, and was told when not to respond.

"Witness tampering and obstruction?!?!?" Heavens, no! We were simply suggesting things!"

Hey, that’s even better than “shock and awe!”

I think this is the deal that will get Trump thrown in prison. You don't make deals like this and not talk if something really good happened and you can defend yourself better if you did speak!

Excellent point. Many people don't think they fell for any propaganda. I think they did.
