Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen confirmed Tuesday that her department has asked federal prosecutors to see if they can lodge criminal charges against sanctuary cities that refuse to cooperate with federal deportation efforts.

“The Department of Justice is reviewing what avenues may be available,” Ms. Nielsen told the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Her confirmation came after California’s new sanctuary law went into effect Jan. 1, severely restricting cooperation the state or any of its localities could offer.

Uhhhh...BOOM!

Funny, they will do this, but what happens to all the companies that hire illegals? Does nothing sound about right? We aren't throwing those people in jail now are we? When in fact that would do far more to prevent illegal immigration, take away the reasoning they come here, for jobs and a better life. Oh the hypocrisy. The republicans would never be for that because they don't want to solve immigration issues. They just want to continue to u se immigration as a scapegoat to their ignorant base, so these people will ignore the republicans letting their rich buddies plunder the country

Try to keep up.

Once you start utilizing federal, local and state tax moneys to help illegal aliens you are stealing from the people who voted you to represent them. If you want to make an argument for going after businesses that hire illegals, sure, go for them, but the larger problem is giving criminal illegal aliens "sanctuary" at the cost of legal law abiding tax payers.

So it seems you are trying to put forth a solution? You want the state and federal government to start going after companies who hire illegal immigrants instead? Why not both?

Sounds like a good idea to me, why not start deporting AND start fining companies who hire them!? Instead of going on partisan rants, just stick will your solution proposals.

While I'm not a fan of sanctuary cities, I prefer to withhold funding as opposed to filing criminal charges against those who disagree with federal policy.

The way we're set up is to ensure that an elected sheriff is the highest authority within his/her county. We need to keep and respect that authority, because ramifications of bulldozing over it could have far-reaching ramifications that have nothing to do with illegals. Think gun confiscation. We have to protect our protections.

That said, withhold federal funding and work within those counties/states to elect people who will adhere to federal laws.

They don't have to cooperate. That's settled law. It's likely just the administration trying to look tough to the base. Or perhaps a scare tactic.

Immigrants terk er jerbs.

LOL, you people truly are a joke. I make an argument with facts, logic and reasoning. You try to be snarky with your dumb "try to keep up response" and copy and past a link that does nothing to support your argument.

Are all right wingers this lazy and unintelligent? Or just those that flood political forums in droves to spread their idiocy?

nine 7-Eleven franchisees and managers in New York and Virginia who allegedly used more than 25 stolen identities to employ over 100 people who were in the country illegally.

Sorry, they weren't arrested for hiring illegals, but for using fraud and stolen identities. And that's a stretch, companies for decades hire illegals and getting nothing but a small fine or slap on the wrist.

Go ahead and try to arrest state government workers and show even more what hypocrites Trump and republicans are. States rights, but only for things they want. You right wingers really have no foot to stand on, you've backed yourselves into a corner with your political hackery and are now just embarrassing yourselves

They don't have elections in sanctuary cities? I thought they did and if I'm right then how are politicians who do what their voters want "stealing" from the people who voted them into office?

As to the broader issue of sanctuary cities, I'm pretty undecided because I'm not knowledgeable on the issue itself. What's weird, though, is we have these discussions about sanctuary cities and I don't think I've ever heard an opponent even acknowledge that there are advantages to law enforcement to a "sanctuary city" stance. A bit one is when residents know that coming to the police with a crime won't risk them being deported, they're more likely to cooperate with law enforcement and be of help solving actual crimes (other than immigration related). Also, cops can be immigration enforcers or do what the citizens expect which is prevent and solve crimes other than immigration crimes. There's nothing wrong with a population prioritizing traditional law enforcement and leaving immigration to ICE.

You must not know what a fact is... nor logic...nor reasoning.... because all you've stated so far is just partisan psychoblabber.

Yep, because you really want to toss out all of those illegal immigrants who fold sheets, flip burgers or mow grass while protecting those that are released from state/local jails. Somehow, I doubt that is really true but it does make it sound like you are tough on illegal immigration while defending sanctuary states/cities.

Uhhhh...BOOM!

Don't get excited. That's what they want you to do.

Consider what the word, "reviewing" means.

Yeah, who cares for states' rights! Yay for Big Federal Government telling local governments what they will and will not do! Same thing for marijuana!

Arresting drug dealers, counterfeiters, and invaders is federal business, has been since the Whisky Rebellion.

I wonder if useful idiots would be cheering if Obama said he was contemplating ordering the arrest of any state/local "leader" who didn't fully adopt all Obamacare provisions or some other some such thing. They're only cheering now because it's aimed at people they consider to be on "the left."

(Don't worry. I know there will be some stupid attempt at semantic distinction. I'm not interested.)

States have no right to harbor criminals.

They're violating federal law. The states don't have the right of nullification.

Is there something in the criminal code about that?

What's funny, is how Liberals suddenly huge supporters of states rights.

States have no right to harbor criminals.

If you want to get pedantic, we're all "criminals" of one sort or another, if not today, then probably within the past week or month. And states and local governments do typically have the same right as the feds, which is to decide which "criminals" to prosecute.

Uhhhh...BOOM!

You and Ms Nielsen should at least try and keep up....

Federal court rules that Trump's executive order targeting sanctuary cities is unconstitutional

Oh? What arrestable offense have I committed?
