The Carrier plant in Indiana was supposed to be the symbol of how the Trump administration was going to save the jobs in middle America. No more jobs to Mexico. This is a new America. But Carrier has announced that they will be laying off another 215 workers in Indiana, and moving the Jobs to Mexico. This is on top of the jobs they have already moved there since Trump was there, showing how he was going to make a difference.

This is the second round of layoffs since Trump visited the plant to tout his deal with United Technologies to keep the factory open. More than 300 jobs were eliminated earlier in July.

Carrier may even still move ahead with plans to completely close the plant and move all the jobs to Mexico three or four years from now when attention has died down. But hey, Trump got the press he needed from them, so he doesn't care what happens there now.

Foolish of Trump to hang his hat on something so fraught with the possibility of failure. The USA has managed to manipulate the USDollar down about 14% since the election, but apparently that is still not enough. At one time the huge volume of USD compared to other Nations made for easy control, but it's much more difficult now. If the USA lets the dollar drop too much and cause huge paper losses for holders of USTreasuries, it will be difficult to get the foreign loans that fund our Nation./

That's how he makes his money!!!!!

I'm sure he pictures the USA as a business and positions carefully to profit from BANKRUPTCY. At least, that has been his personal history. In this case it would be USA bankruptcy, you, me, Grandma, and the dog, eh?

Or more likely borrows from Russia since his banks aren't even here.

What better symbol of how the Trump administration is actually saving the jobs in middle America could there possibly be?

He only needed it to control the airwaves for that day or two, until he moved-on to the next PR event.

It actually served him well.

It was a great photo op, which Trump is drawn to like a bee to honey: mindless reflex.

Perhaps.

But I must remind you he prevailed to beat HRC, and become President.

And at least for 2016, we found PR can definitely assist in winning elections. And Trump is very good at PR that appeals to a certain segment of the populace. And they put him in the White House.

It wouldn't affect "HIS" banks. It would affect the Treasury and Fed and holders of USTreasuries and big debts. I suggest he would bankrupt the Nation/USA/Country, not Trump personally. It would pick your pocket, not Trump's.

Trump, do as I say, not as I do.

His supporters are dimwits.

Yeah that really helped him hypnotize the voters. Lots of the middle class are being faced with similar situations, my landlords went through that. Their jobs just moved to Virginia though, so they had to find new jobs. Trump didn't help them get new jobs though.

This more than makes up for it:

If memory serves, this is the same plant that the Indiana State Legislature struck a deal with to actually save those jobs and Trump was all too happy to take credit for.

Not really, wanna know why?
The move had already been planned as far back as January 2017 and it was still going to happen, tax cut or no tax cut.

Hey, let's all admit that it would be foolhardy for FCA CEO to ignore Trump's tax cut, okay?
Of COURSE he's going to say he's grateful and that it helps. And it does help, and the CEO should mention that it helps.
But the fact is, they were still going to do the move, because they have to.
The Saltillo MX plant has a long history of doing some things well, and some things terribly.
It is something of a "problem child" for Chrysler and always has been, in some areas.

For instance, all of the famous Chrysler HEMI V8's have been made there for years, and they do a great job of it.
But when Saltillo started making the new Pentastar V6, Chrysler had to act fast and move Pentastar production to Trenton MI in order to save the project.
The move worked, and the Pentastar quickly became acknowledged as the best engine Chrysler has ever made in its entire history.
In fact, it is rated as one of the top 10 V6 engines ever made PERIOD.
Maserati uses a version of the Pentastar V6 in the Maserati Ghibli, slapping twin turbos on it to squeeze out 430 HP instead of the stock naturally aspirated rating of 289 HP.

HEMI engines are BONE SIMPLE to make, hemispherical heads, a big single lumpy as hell camshaft, big honking pushrods, big honking hemispherical pistons, big honking valves, big honking intakes, big honking crankshaft. They're basically truck engines on steroids.
Brilliant design but still bone simple.
That's one reason the Chrysler HEMI was nicknamed "The Elephant Engine" decades ago.

The Pentastar is an aluminium (die-cast cylinder block) dual overhead cam 24-valve V-6 the engine design of which also allows the use of E85 or 87 octane fuel, supports cylinder deactivation, and features dual variable valve timing. It is incredibly complex and very sophisticated. It's also bulletproof, because it is overbuilt, that is, made to put out way more power than it normally does. It is balanced and blueprinted at the factory, something most common older American engines never were.

Saltillo also could not handle the increased demand for the heavy truck production that is moving to Warren Michigan. The Saltillo plant is set up for maximum flexibility, but not necessarily set up for accommodating explosive demand.

It's not that Trump's fans are necessarily gullible, it's that they are being played like a whorehouse piano.

Just going by the article. Part of it is in addition to what they announced in early 2017.

It fulfills a move that Fiat Chrysler executives have been saying they would consider making for about a year following a separate $1 billion investment announcement in early 2017.

It also said: Auto makers have revamped production plans since Mr. Trump's election in 2016. Ford Motor Co. canceled a plant in Mexico last year and Toyota Motor Corp. will open a $1.6 billion factory with Mazda Motor Corp. in Alabama by 2021.

I guess we'll have to wait and see if that happens or not.

No no, they HAVE to do it. The Chrysler plant in Warren Michigan is fertile ground for expansion but more importantly, it dovetails perfectly with their other component manufacturing that relates to their RAM heavy line.
And the reason for that points to a probable reason for the increased demand: The quality is apparently going up, so buyers are indicating a preference for that line.
If you know Cummins diesel engines, you can put it together in your head every bit as well as I can. :)
I am still surprised that Ford doesn't do something similar again with Caterpillar.

But Chrysler is not "canceling" anything in Saltillo, MX as far as plant operations and it's doubtful they ever would because while the Saltillo plant WILL see the final HEMI V8 engine roll off its line some time either this year or in 2019, I am sure that FCA will find plenty of other uses for the Saltillo plant.
It's a fairly new and very flexible facility and what it DOES do well, it does VERY well.
Just don't ask them to build any four cam VVT high performance world beating V6's, that's all ;)

I'm sure the Deplorables will find a way to spin this into something it is not. I look forward to seeing that in the replies.
