Trump attacks protections for immigrants from ‘s**thole’ countries

In the short term it certainly appears that way. In the long term, this is very helpful for Democrats in all the special elections coming up and of course in November.

Trump spoke the truth, so why is Haiti not a ****hole? Do u plain to vacation there? If not why not?

I think Trump's a blathering idiot but I got no problem calling a **** hole country, a "**** hole country."

I have been to **** hole countries. It makes perfect sense to me that anyone from a **** hole country would want to come here.

Well, I have passed the talk stick around many a campfire surrounded by progressive types, and that's what they call these countries too.

But ya gotta admit. It's funnier than hell listening to all the "****" flying around right now.

For decades, we have called impoverished, non-industrialized, and diseased nations “Third World” and no one complained about insensitivity or racism. By definition, Third World countries are ****Holes.

By definition 'third world' means unaligned.
First world- the US and it's allies.
Second world- the Soviet Union and it's allies.
Third World- unaligned nations.

You're welcome.

That was the original meaning, however the modern usage of the term is in reference to poor or the least developed countries.

There is no modern usage, by educated people at least. It changed to "developed and developing" then changed again to "more developed and less developed". You can't use archaic terms and pretend they have a modern, personal, definition.

Out of curiosity, how many archaic terms do you have personal definitions for. Other examples?

Any time I have ever heard someone use "third world country" it has always been in reference to a poor or under developed country.

From https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/third world
Definition of*third world

1:*the aggregate of the underdeveloped nations of the world

2:*a group of nations especially in Africa and Asia not aligned with either the Communist or the non-Communist blocs

3:*an aggregate of minority groups within a larger predominant culture

Notice #1

I guess "Liberal" would be another archaic term I tend to use because I consider myself Liberal in the classical sense.

No professor today will allow the use of the term, to reference less developed countries, in a paper. It's "developing" or, more correctly and modern, "less developed". Yes, a ton of old farts that refuse to be corrected or educated still use the archaic term. They're just showing how out of touch they've become.

Note, "under developed" is also no longer used.

If we were talking about writing a college thesis then you would have a point. However, we are talking about common usage and if you ask the average person on the street what a Third world country is the typical response is going to be a poor or under developed country.

*Edit If under developed is no longer used then they may want to update the dictionary.

Why don't we just create a list of ****hole countries? Call them unicorn countries. Who gives a **** ? Identify them and then cut them off.

It's unacceptable in a freshman class. Using an archaic term displays level of education.

ps. A thesis is the final paper for a masters. A dissertation is the final paper for a phd. Undergrads don't write a thesis.

They should but they probably have better things to do. Nuance of world development terminology is probably low on their list.

Note: this is a plus to Trump supporters.

Absolutely. They weren't happy when they thought he was softening on "DACA", so he threw them some red meat to placate them. They are happy again.

Yep; never heard of some do-gooders building wells in first or second-world countries.

you don’t hear people saying..gee I can’t wait to vacation in Haiti

Knew some Haitians. Fine

They are coming here because their countries are ****holes.
M

I think all the people trying to get the hell out of those **** holes would agree with Trump.

Any critics volunteering to take a few dozen Haitians home?

Used to work with Haitians. Fine people. But you can continue to take comfort in your ignorance.

And the best economy in the entire 21st century so far.

You do realize that Trump inherited a pretty good economy don't you? Or are you one of these folks who believe that Trump is going to deliver us from the brink of economic disaster and financial collapse?

Oh wait, Obama already did that.............:)

I'm not sure why you keep bringing up that it is unacceptable for use in college, it is widely used within society which was my entire point. If you don't believe me walk around town and simply ask 10 or more people what they believe someone means when they refer to a country as third world. Unless you are walking around a college campus most will say poor countries.

Agreed, but in today's media all you needs is a rumor to get breaking headlines. Even your OP comes across as if it's a fact Trump did this

It must be true, I heard them defending this remark on Fox News.

Of course and leftists know this, they're too frightened to admit it. I think DJT said what most people were thinking.

Most people are thinking Trump is an a..hole. As for "frightened", Trump hasn't the guts to either stand by his words or apologize. Instead the big sissy is hiding behind his tweeter and claiming he didn't say it.

Trump being a New Yorker and I assume owning at least one yacht you would think that he would have read the words on the statue of liberty...
