(CNN) A Florida university posted campus police outside a sociology class titled "White Racism" after the professor was flooded with harassing emails and messages -- some of them openly racist. The class filled quickly to the maximum of 50 students.

"Although I was a bit nervous, sitting through the class felt like a sigh of relief," said. Oliva-Infante, president of FGCU College Democrats and FGCU for Dreamers. "One thing we all have in common was that our communities all suffer from white racism."

"We've got to be cautious because you don't know what (white) people are capable of", Professor Ted Thornhill said.

I added the 'white' in parentheses to the last sentence, to help the 'professor' better define just who it is he was referring to, since he doesn't have the backbone to.

The 50 students attending the first class were "majority.. students of color".

This man should feel like a complete idiot for leading minority students down the path of delusional victimization theories. That will NOT prepare them for life after college, unless they are one of the few lucky ones who get hired to teach victimization psychology like he did.

Not surprised, as plenty of people still love to tout that victim status merit as much as possible.

Though given the amount of crap that we see come out of college campuses that is faked. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see that plenty of those racist messages were faked as well.

So you literally added the word "white" to his quote so that you could make your title "Guard against white people". Incredibly dishonest. Whether you agree with the content of the class or not, he received threatening emails and calls and THAT is what the guard was there for. Not to "keep whitey at bay".

This is the same low quality garbage we've come to expect from your posts. Maybe we should blame the people threatening college professors for saying things they don't like. Do you hate the first amendment that much?

Of course, a white person would never threaten someone or be racist. Without having any relevant information or knowledge about what happened we can conclude that it is obviously those uppity and dangerous minorities at it again.

What about the racist who tries to justify his vile bigotry because he claimed to have grown up in a bad neighborhood?

This seems to be yet another example of Black Americans blaming racism on white people and White Americans blaming racism on black people while they both miss (or choose to ignore) the common factor. :(

I thought the exact same thing while reading the article. They want to pretend it's 1954 all over again. Publicity keeps them relevant.

At least this isn't as bad as the things we see going doing at colleges like Berkley.
Now that is one extremely sad display.

Let's get real here. The class is being taught by a black professor, to non-white students, and the subject is white racism. Who do you think is unwanted in that class room? White people. And that's who the police were there to keep out.

Whether you agree with the content of the class or not, he received threatening emails and calls and THAT is what the guard was there for. Not to "keep whitey at bay".

Maybe he shouldn't have created a class subject that revolves around perpetuating hatred of a specific race then. I'd expect outrage to pour into any college that created a curriculum around blaming a specific race for social problems.

Well at least you managed to stay on topic this time. I must have gotten your attention.

Who threatened him? Provide quotes.

Do you hate the first amendment that much?

No, of course not. But do you remember all the talk last August about the 'consequences for hateful speech'? Well creating a classroom curriculum that seeks to piss off minorities by telling them how bad whites are is indeed hateful. Live up to your own standards.

Telling people they're victims is what leads to them becoming dangerous, if they don't manage to realize the American dream. Thank your leftist leaders for that.

Are you just wholly ignorant of the capacity for anyone to lie, or are you just acting?

They literally rioted at the prospect of a non-leftist speaking at Berkeley, twice. Talk about being privileged, huh? They're allowed to riot when they get their feelings hurt. I'm pretty sure it doesn't work that way for me and you.

That's an interesting take. Do you want to expound on that?

Went to go see Milo speak, in which they forced it to cancel and he still showed. Though I wasn't able to be there when he arrived for his own little show and I only managed to see it when video was finally posted.

It was hilarious when he offered to debate that one protestor right there on the spot and all they could do was just shout it down. Saying they didn't debate with racist, despite the fact that he keeps proving he anything other than that.

Its pretty funny when you see them run and hide behind the authorities, especially with how much **** they give them as well.

Just to point something out here...The professor shared 46 emails with CNN. CNN didn't show any that were threatening. Racist and hatred emails, but none that were threatening...unless you consider pulling tuition from the school threatening the professor? I'm pretty sure that if there were any that were actually threatening then CNN would have provided them. Doing such means extra ratings. Like the old axiom says: Violence sells.

I think America’s history and politics has generated unique and particularly prominent issues with race in America that you’ve never properly addressed as a society. Race so often seems to be the first factor brought up in major fields like politics, crime and welfare and it so often seems to be a primary source of unnecessary division and conflict. The event this thread is about seems to be a classic example of the problem, with people in one racial grouping identifying people in another racial grouping as the cause of the problem rather than the reality (practically if nothing else) of it being a problem we all have and that we can only deal with together. This isn’t to say that racism doesn’t exist anywhere else or that it’s especially worse in the US, only that the form and features of it there are unique.

How do you think we can improve upon what we've been doing?

Racial politics is a profitable business in this country, despite it not being a contributor to any positive solutions. We've only become more divided across racial lines since the rise of racially motivated reparations, like affirmative action.

Good points Joe.

I honestly don’t know. I think it would need a sea-change in social attitudes across the board and I don’t see that happening in the foreseeable future.

Sorry, but you demonstrate the problem there. Reparation and AA policies are responses to long running racial division. They’re fundamentally flawed responses and create further division in themselves, especially when poorly explained and implemented, but that still just symptomatic of the much wider problem. You’re focusing on the divisions of the policies while their proponents are focusing on the divisions they’re intended to address. You’ve got to all see both sets of divisions for you to come together on any better answers.

When one thinks of racism it's always us against black people.
Black people can be racist against us. The candle burns at both ends and this needs to be recognized.

When a white person blames black people for society's ills, we call them a Stormfronter.

When a black person blames white people for society's ills, we call them 'professor'.

We do blame black people however lets be specific. The problem is black on black and it goes beyond crime such as economics, education and self esteem(not putting each other down with jealousies and deceit). Now what do you call this ?
How do we respect blacks if they don't respect themselves ?
