Psychiatrist briefed concerned congress members about Trump's mental health

Whatever, man. You're playing with the same social practices, just aimed at different people.

Don't be ridiculous. I'm giving a political opinion. Isn't that what we do on this board? Or are we all violating some sort of professional standard for political speech by typing pixels here?

You were recommending psychological evaluations based on nothing more than personal animus. That's not what we ought to use that argument for and the fact that you can't see the irony of that, given your posts in this thread, well, I suppose I could find that funny.

John Gartner, Ph.D., a psychologist, recently created a petition for mental health specialists regarding their opinion of Donald Trump's mental fitness to serve. More than 60,000 mental health professionals have signed the petition, which states:

Sarah, it's not just "anyone" questioning the president's mental health. It is now 60,000 mental health professionals and counting.

It is total BS and grossly negligent to try and diagnose someone without speaking to that person themselves. Those 'Drs' should have their licenses taken away. What a treasonous piece of garbage, and chicken**** action. This is the lowest I've seen the left go, and it's disgusting. I don't like Trump but this is just awful.

It's not me. It's the professionals. That's their job to say who isn't fit. Making such judgments of "mental fitness" is the bread and butter of their profession.

Well, I guess you can still cling to that hope.

The point is that no one is diagnosing...they are calling for an emergency evaluation because of some concerning behaviors.

The guy has almost unilateral power to launch nuclear weapons. Seems reasonable to me.

This is not calling for an emergency evaluation. This is calling for him to be removed from office based on their unethical 'professional' opinions without ever evaluating him in person.

We, the undersigned mental health professionals, believe in our professional judgment that Donald Trump manifests a serious mental illness that renders him psychologically incapable of competently discharging the duties of President of the United States. And we respectfully request he be removed from office, according to article 4 of the 25th amendment to the Constitution, which states that the president will be replaced if he is ‘unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office.’”

You thought I literally meant the shrinks needed a mental evaluation? :lamo Do you not understand the difference between a political comment meant as hyperbole and what these so-called mental professionals are advising? Or are you just being disingenuous for effect?

So today it's Trump's mental health. That one won't fly either. If the left is to prevail in '18 & '20, they need to start explaining why they are better, not why the other guy is worse.

I do believe, though, it's unethical to diagnose someone without an examination. 60,000 licenses need to be looked at.

Don’t tell them that! When involved with crazy people don’t expect them to act like non-crazy people.

There are two broad reasons for why the Goldwater rule was always deemed important:

1) Political consequences

2) Greater social stigma of mental illness and those with mental illness by using it as a moniker

You aren't really different from the folks you're critiquing here. If you disagree, well, you're wrong. Sorry.

And the vast millions that voted for him don’t think so.
So if you got hopes of using a fake mental illness to remove your President, you better think long and hard about it. Now here’s some crayons for you, now sit in your safe space and think.
Record stock market
Record consumer confidence
Lowest unemployment rate in 10 years
Housing market booming
Company’s coming back
Clinton foundation being investigated for giving favors to donors!
The fake dossier has damaged the dumpstercrats.
ILLEGAL immigrants are less.
And if you want DACA then Trump gets our wall.
Obamas executive orders have been voided.
I was having a sad day until I started saying how great it is to have Trump as your President.

So first you took me literally (I think ) when I wrote that I thought the shrinks were the guys who needed a mental evaluation, and now you're arguing that one of two broad reasons for the Goldwater rule was to avoid social stigma for people who suffer from a mental disorder, which presumably in Goldwater's case was having the misfortune of being an extreme right-winger? :lamo

when I wrote that I thought the shrinks were the guys who needed a mental evaluation,

It's a reproduction of stigma toward mental health. That you don't get it is part of the problem.

First of all, I don't accept the premise that Trump is mentally ill, certainly not without a proper mental-health evaluation. Can the loons who signed this petition say that? Secondly, I don't give my personal hyperbolic political comments much weight for stigmatizing extreme political views (Trumpphobia ;)) as a mental illness when compared against the nearly 60,000 so-called mental health professionals who apparently think Trump is suffering from a "severe mental illness (right-wingerism?) that renders him psychologically incapable of competently discharging the duties of President of the United States."

FAIL! Move on!
