The nuclear war tweet heard 'round the world

I make wonderful and judicious use of that function as my previous posts have alluded to.
I say alluded to because saying it outright is a rule violation.

...and yes, I do agree with you about the nukes. Whether one or a hundred, it only takes one to start the ball rolling.
It does not even have to hit anything to start a war.
merely being on a trajectory and successfully shot down would do it.

My hope is there are also safeguards and reasonable thinking people that have the power to stop something some politician started.
I hope this is true.
It was in the 80's when that one Russian officer made a command decision about a weather pattern that looked like a strike and their computers said so. Human intervention stopped it. I think the West German government even gave the guy a medal or something.
In NOKO, though, I do not think those safeguards are in place.
They might be, but I do not think so.

Yah, im beginning to think Reagan's star wars idea doesn't sound like such a bad idea.

Makes more sense then a wall at a time when we have flying motorcycles.

In their behavior....YES
This is what makes me reasonable.

You didn't answer my question. I asked you if it was a false equivalence.

A common way for this fallacy to be perpetuated is one shared trait between two subjects is assumed to show equivalence, especially in order of magnitude, when equivalence is not necessarily the logical result.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/False_equivalence

Yes, they were both immature. That's a shared trait but they are not equivalent. One person is an anonymous person making immature comments on an Internet forum. The other person is the President of the the United States making immature threats about nuclear weapons.

If you're a reasonable person, you'll concede that these two actions are not equivalent. Yes, they're both immature but they're not even close to equivalent.

The simple truth is that POTUS is childish and immature. He's an embarrassment to our country. That's the simple raw truth.

Yes. The last I checked, no illegal immigrant said they wanted to blow me up with a nuke.
Maybe if we had a satellite missile station in geostationary orbit over the west coast?
Or maybe we do and no one is talking about it.
They seem to hate San Fransisco for some reason.
Maybe he ate some bad crab at Fisherman's wharf as a kid?
Or we won't export Rice-A-Roni to NOKO?

"Son, if someone attacks you with childish immature insults, respond with even more childish and immature comments. Don't let anyone be more childish and immature than you."

Great job, Dad.

Kim Jung Un just wants to play in the Olympics.

I'm curious, how do you think Trump's strategy would bring NK to the bargaining table?

"Wow, Trump sounds really dangerous and unstable. Maybe we should trust him, give up our nuclear weapons and sign a peace treaty."

I think its entirely possible that his BS has startled Kim Jung Un, and so he's looking for a way to join the rest of the world.

Kim Jung Un only wants nukes as a means of deterring invasion. If you're Kim Jung Un what you fear most is an invasion by America and South Korea. The more afraid you are, the less likely you are to give up your nuclear arsenal. Nukes are the only thing that will deter an American attack.

It's not that complicated. The only way NK would ever give up their nuclear program is if they believed there was no threat of invasion. Threatening them with nuclear weapons doesn't help. Taunting them that our nukes are bigger and more effective, doesn't help.

But keep making excuses for this incompetent president.

I'm not making excuses. I'm saying there is positive movement.
Do you not think the US has told NK several times that they have no desire to attack them, as long as they don't pursue this nuclear capability?

"My pee pee dong is bigger than your pee pee dong."

Its like watching third graders on the schoolyard.

Sorry, the apology tour ended with Obable,
You have to bully a bully, we have tried being peaceful, we gave loads of money, and rocket man hasn’t slowed down yet, so I think we need to try something different.
Trump has been tweeting about rocket man for some time now, guess what, no bombs from rocket man.

It's not really.

While Trump says (and tweets) some odd things, in this instance, he's just responding in kind to Kim's bluster and bravado. That's all Kim understands. Clinton and Carter tried appeasing the loud-mouthed Kims with money, and you see where that got the world -- nukes in NK. Not a bright move.

Trump may be mouthy, but the result of his comments is far less dangerous than those who sought to appease the rogue nation by giving it the money to develop nukes.

Think about it.

That might be true, but on the other hand it demonstrates Trump's immaturity loud and clear. The president of the United States should behave a little more dignified and gentlemanly, but he chooses to act like a playground bully. This was evident in 2015-2016 when he ran his campaign, he made fun of people's looks and disabilities among other things.

Kim Jong Un wanting to see his team in the Olympics is just Kim being Kim.

Do you not think the US has told NK several times that they have no desire to attack them, as long as they don't pursue this nuclear capability?

I'm sure reminding them of our much bigger nuclear button helps reassure them that we have no desire to attack them.

Isn't it reasonable to think that taunting them about the size and efficacy of their nuclear arsenal only motivates them to improve their nuclear arsenal and demonstrate its effectiveness?

I admire your attempt to defend the indefensible. Trump is just a terrible president and an embarrassment to our nation. Deep down you know that. You defend him out of loyalty to party.

Trumps tweets have nothing to do with north and south Korea opening communications.

His childish actions are not only unbecoming of a president, but they are detrimental to our nation.

NK is well aware of our military capability.

Trump taunting them is like the bully in the school yard trying to pick a fight.

In this case you have your bullies mixed up.

Oh so Kim Jung is the victim of bullying...... Nice.... /facepalm

Wow, give it a rest. Sometimes childish juvenile talk is just childish juvenile talk. Are you going to deny that Trump has a long long history of juvenile Twitter feuds? The American president behaves like a child. That's the simple truth. Deal with it.

Yep. Trump "has a long long history of juvenile Twitter feuds", which makes it so interesting to see folks fall for the style and miss the salient point.

I'm sure he does. But I also think there may be ulterior motives for his communications with SK now.

I'm sure reminding them of our much bigger nuclear button helps reassure them that we have no desire to attack them.
OK...other than the nuke/ICBM thing, why on earth would the USA have any desire to attack NK?
Personally I don't understand this whole thing. I mean...so many rogue nations have nukes now that 1 more would be what? More over-kill?
This whole issue with NK is nothing more than a 'Trumped-up' ploy by Kim to justify his strangle hold on the country.
Were the US and the world to begin publicly stating we want to flood NK with our 'goodies'...you know, like food...Kim's hold on power would wane. He'd have no enemy to justify his methods. So...he builds his arsenal and tells his people the USA wants to destroy all of them. This all justifies the military build-up of both nations. But don't mistake this political BS for a real threat of war.

Isn't it reasonable to think that taunting them about the size and efficacy of their nuclear arsenal only motivates them to improve their nuclear arsenal and demonstrate its effectiveness?
Of course it does. It's a 'game' lad.
Get in the 'game'.

I admire your attempt to defend the indefensible. Trump is just a terrible president and an embarrassment to our nation. Deep down you know that. You defend him out of loyalty to party.
Dude...I'm Canadian.
A 'Trump' could never happen up here because...we're not bat-sh1t crazy.
I find Donny-Boy amusing. A product of the insanity that is US politics.
The people wanted a way out of the stupidity of your governing bodies, and the only choice they were given was a TV celebrity.
Perhaps y'all will finally understand yourselves in the near future, and elect a really qualified person who also wants to 'drain the swamp'?
But somehow...I doubt that'll happen down there...
More's the pity.

I thought you were one of the bat-sh1t crazy American Trump cult members.

Of course, there is no rational reason to attack NK but our conservatives here are not rational. They invaded Iraq and destabilized the entire Middle East because they suspected Iraq could have nuclear weapons. I have no doubt they would attack NK if they thought they could get away with it.

And with Trump, who knows what he might do? A war would be a great way to distract from his imminent impeachment.

People laugh about this but really, Trump is playing with fire. American politics have sunk to such a new low that people have already become desensitized to this child taunting the red button like it's nothing more than a game for him to play with.

There's also something to be said for maintaining a certain level of mystique. The less you run your mouth the more you keep people guessing, which is something Trump knows nothing about.
