Free speech can be so inconvenient sometimes, and the left wing Russiagate mongers are doing their best to stamp it out. But this is not new, and one wonders why The Nation has noticed it all of a sudden. Perhaps it is the attempt to use the courts to suppress speech that has The Nation alarmed.

The president has no problem exercising free speech. It's printed in the press because there's no suppression of the first amendment. The POTUS is being held accountable for what he says. If only it were fake news.

You didn't read the story.

I'm about as tired of hearing about anti-Russiagate as I am with Russia collusion.

Serve up the evidence or shut up already. If it takes this long to give us one un-refuted piece of evidence, then there just might not be any.

Freedom of speech is conditional on your acceptance of the current political and economic system though, right? So how free is speech really? What use is calling for a fundamental change in the political system if the entirety of law enforcement and the military apparatus exists to stop you from doing that. When people talk about free speech they do so from a position in which being able to say whatever you want quantifiably means nothing. I can say "I want to take drugs" but I can't actually take them without risking judicial intervention. I can say "I want an end to capitalism" but I can't actually bring that about without having to face down tanks and armed soldiers.

Many of you will probably say, well that's good, you shouldn't take drugs and capitalism is the best economic system the world has seen, so of course it's easy for you to say that freedom of speech is sacrosanct, because you don't loose anything. In fact, it reinforces the existence of the laws and systems of government and economics that you agree with.

Too much stock is placed on this idea of freedom of speech. It's a buzzphrase used by liberals and conservatives alike to reinforce their own points of view and hang their shiny armour on to make themselves look reasonable and morally superior. In reality it's just meaningless.
