Cohen comments on Trump parenting

My opinion? Trump being a distant father is no surprise but also no big deal. That's likely how he grew up. We mostly learn how to be a father from our fathers.
Having said that, he put himself on centre stage, under the spotlight. Everything about his life is fair game to the paparazzi-type journalists. Just how it is.

Who said Trump is a distant father?

You don't get to see him inside the residence?

I think it is a good thing he doesn't parade the boy in front of the cameras like a prop.

Limbaugh got famous by attacking Chelsea Clinton. I wonder if the same people who are outraged now were outraged then, or still are at Limbaugh.

Is that what made him famous?

I didn't know that.

Some of his family put themselves in the public eye. His youngest son most certainly did not.

Aww you need some wine with that whine. Been watching politics a long time, family of Presidents are fair game and always have been. I stand by my comments.

And every single time it happened with other Presidents’ children I called it out as well. Chelsea used to get it bad.

I know, and I could care less. Call it out until the cows come home, it don't change a thing.

Well, nothing you or I say on this forum changes anything, now does it? :)

Barron the sixth grader started St. Andrews Episcopal day school in a Maryland suburb of Washington which is about a 30 minute drive from WH. The school costs $38,000 at the grade six level and goes up to grade 12.

Uh...no they aren't.

It's always been "Family's off limits" when it comes to politics. Attacking family of one's political opponent(s) is a big no-no, and actually doing so can have serious repercussions.

cheap shot. criticize Trump about something else.

Doesn't matter. In politics, family is off limits no matter what.
They are not attacking baron. They are beating up on him. Its dumb but its not some cardinal sin.

I condemned that reference to the former first lady the day I saw it, said it was uncalled for IIRC and i stand by that assessment. As far as I recall, only a single person made that statement about the former first lady.

I'd welcome a similar condemnation from the political left when it comes to Baron Trump, a minor, a child, who has been gleefully lambasted by some off the political left.

There have been accusations here that the political right keeps painting the political left with an overly broad brush.

Now's your chance, Vetplus40, to prove that the political left doesn't do that, or at least that you don't do that.

Skeptic Bob was spot on in that this is nobody else's business besides the immediate family, and does not belong in the public eye.

It indeed is reprehensible. The political left needs to leave Baron alone.

The criticism in the OP is of Trump. No posts are taking any shots at the kid.

If anything posts are saying we over here hope the kid turns out better than the father and the elder sons. The right is blasting both barrels however, defending Trump as always and making untrue statements the kid is being attacked. No one is attacking the kid and no one is defending those in the larger society who discuss Barron in specific terms and who raise questions about the boy.

Foreign media has political fun with it too which I submit is harmless....

th

Cause no matter how youse look at it the kid gets the last laugh.

Nahh....I think it started as far back as Amy Carter.

Though I cant recall if it was Reagan, the media, or someone else.

May have begun long before that even.....I have no idea how children in the WH were treated before modern media.

Reagan never, ever said anything bad about Amy Carter. Ever. He had way too much class.

You are right, it wasn't Reagan....it was the media; She was reading a book at a state dinner ( as I would expect a child to do) and someone in the media remarked that it disrespectful to the foreign guests.

Like I said, it was a long time ago, and I had to actually look it up.

Care to show what the repercussions were when Mrs Obama was called rascist names? Or when certain posters on this forum decided to attack Hillary's daughter? Please what exactly are these repercussions?

Man, you're not supposed to put you deeply hypocritical self-contradictions all in the same post. You claim you condemned the statement about Michelle but stressed a sub-claim that it was just one person who said it ever (it wasn't, but anyway...)...

But here you are, pretending that one Democratic congressman is "the political left" and that "the political left" is harassing Barron. You do that even though the thread is full of condemnations of the behavior by people who identify as being on the left. Amazing, really.

Was it not the multiple people form the leftist media (and leftists in general) that was attacking Baron on multiple occasions? Typically in a Twitter pile-on? (I believe it was)
It was to this I was referring.

I was aware that there was one person who referred to the former first lady in those terms, terms I observed at the time as being 'uncalled for'. Employed in local governmnet, I do believe, and was relieved of her position, if I'm not mistaken. Sure, there may have also been a similar Twitter pile-on, that only means that those people deserve equal condemnation.

So equal condemnation from here.

Who on the political left lambasted Barron Trump, and how did they do it?

Did they call him names? Make fun of his appearance? Call him stupid? Call him a dog? What specifically was said about him? And who said it - Nancy Pelosi? Chuck Schumer? Someone else? Because I think it's disgusting to insult the children of a President, as was done to Amy Carter and the Bush girls. But I do not remember any politically left politicians criticizing Barron Trump. Links, please?

Good afternoon, trouble13. :2wave:

If someone is "beating up on me," I would definitely call that an attack! Baron Trump can't respond - he's an 11 year old child! WTH is going on with some people today? Children are not responsible for what their elders do in politics - leave them alone! Damn....

The last one. The attacks were so bad that Chelsea Clinton came to Barron's defense. Kudos to Chelsea for that.

Also of note that the attacks are not just on Trump, OK, fair enough, he volunteered it, but the rest of his family, even those not in the administration, who didn't volunteer for it. Further, the attacks all appear to be foul mouthed personal attacks of the worst sort.

If someone volunteers themselves into a position where attacks of this nature are likely to happen, fine, they asked for it. Leave those that didn't alone.

I am not from the "politcal left" but I was VERY critical of the writer that poked fun at Barron Trump, and I believe that the individual was dealt with accordingly. ALL children should be off limits to any kind of disparaging remarks PERIOD. Let me repeat ALL children should be off limits. That does NOT include adult children though.

Now's your chance, Vetplus40, to prove that the political left doesn't do that, or at least that you don't do that.

I am not from the "politcal left" (unless your definition of "left" is anyone who dislikes Trump) but I was VERY critical of the writer that poked fun at Barron Trump, and I believe that the individual was dealt with and criticized accordingly (which was NOT the case with the talk show host that insulted Michelle Obama). ALL children should be off limits to any kind of disparaging remarks PERIOD. Let me repeat ALL children should be off limits.

That said, I do not put criticizing Trump's parenting style in the same catagory as criticizing or poking fun at children.

Now's your chance
