Trump’s New York Times Interview Is a Portrait of a Man in Cognitive Decline

It comes from the Fact Checker at the Washington Post, so obviously little more than hard left-wing propaganda but nevertheless --

In a 30-minute interview, President Trump made 24 false or misleading claims

President Trump gave an impromptu half-hour interview with the New York Times on Dec. 28. We combed through the transcript and here’s a quick roundup of the false, misleading or dubious claims that he made, at a rate of one every 75 seconds. (Some of the interview was off the record, so it’s possible the rate of false claims per minute is higher.)

“Virtually every Democrat has said there is no collusion. There is no collusion. . . . I saw Dianne Feinstein the other day on television saying there is no collusion.”

Trump appears to be referring to an interview with Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee. She did not flatly say there was no collusion and instead was more nuanced.

(Sigh) Appeal to Authority? You are claiming that your "experience running an adult family home" makes you an authority on the subject?

That is no better than those various "mental health professionals" making diagnosis of various mental health issues both before and after Trump got elected on nothing more than "experience and observation."

The only difference between them and you (if you are not a licensed psychiatrist/psychologist) is that like any private citizen you have no ethical restrictions on your arm-chair mental health opinions.

Meanwhile, the man is holding the highest office in the land, with the highest stress levels. Look how it greyed Obama's hair. I am betting all his time playing golf is intentional down time for a man in his 70's in order to help alleviate that stress. It might still reflect in his ability to respond...as just simply being tired.

I'm sure his own team is watching him closely, and if there is any actual mental or physical issues preventing him from holding office they would have no compunctions about acting under the 25th Amendment and placing Mr. Pence in the seat of power.

Unless and until that happens I am going to view this "new" tactic a fallback line as the so-called "Resistance!" comes to realize the "collusion/obstruction" effort is running out of steam.

Hmph. I remember watching conservatives howl about how "those Obamabots will defend anything and everything Obama does!" Now I sorta see how those conservatives felt since you and your fellow Trumpistas are defending anything and everything Trump does...no matter how unlawful and unconstitutional...or - in a reference to a different thread - how subservient to the leader of the only nation on earth that has the physical capability to destroy America.

i've always said that Trump has gotten worse over the years. He's always been an asshole, but watch his interviews when he was younger, and he comes across as more intelligent and sane. Now he just comes across as a lunatic. Granted, I do believe some of it is an act to appease his supporters. The crazier Trump acts, the more his supporters cheer.

Indeed. It seems like Trump's approval rate cannot dip any lower as he will always have that large group of supporters that support him regardless of what he does.

A desperate left wing idiot with a pen an paper.....

More left wing fake media and hype.

Can you not find anything better to do with your time? Really this is just plain getting old, and rather boring.

Just another ass hurt Democrat...

Ha!

That post is absolutely and totally stupid.

That "A desperate left wing idiot with a pen an paper...." You might want to learn to look **** up before spewing the white house goo. Michael Schmidt was the reporter who broke the story that ended Hillay's career.

Do your homework. Oh wait, it's the American right...no need to look anything up, you all know it all

Dementia is actually a best case scenario.

Take a look at Ezra Klein’s piece, dissecting some of the interview very clearly:

http://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2017/12/29/16829806/trump-interview-new-york-times

Great find.

I watched my father decline into dementia and this piece is actually shocking.

... We’ve created associations, millions of people are joining associations. Millions. That were formerly in Obamacare or didn’t have insurance. Or didn’t have health care. Millions of people. That’s gonna be a big bill, you watch. It could be as high as 50 percent of the people. You watch. So that’s a big thing. And the individual mandate. So now you have associations, and people don’t even talk about the associations. That could be half the people are going to be joining up. … With private [inaudible]. So now you have associations and the individual mandate.

What it means is:

Trump doesn’t seem to realize this, it’s just an executive order — the rules defining and implementing it have not been written, so it is not yet happening, and we don’t know how it will work in practice, much less how many people may eventually sign up

This douchebag is living in a fantasy world where he thinks he can sign a paper and have **** happen.....like a Tsar.

He's a loon.

Mr. Trump disputed reports that suggested he does not have a detailed understanding of legislation, saying, “I know the details of taxes better than anybody. Better than the greatest C.P.A. I know the details of health care better than most, better than most.”Later, he added that he knows more about “the big bills” debated in the Congress “than any president that’s ever been in office.

Who cares if his mind is failing clinically, it's already failed in plain sight with or without Alzheimer's.

Listened to a bit of NPR on teh way home today, Seth Meyers from SNL/Late night was being interviewed. He said no joke that when Trump was on set, he carried around a little piece of paper with his The Apprentice ratings on it. He'd ask a polite question or two, than pull out the paper and show it someone and say "look at those ratings".

You can't make this **** up. A walking joke of a man, a bizarre oddity that no one in their right mind should take seriusly, and he's elected POTUS. And in a stunning display of doubling down, people defend him!? It's nuts all around.

---Amazingly, he later quipped: "No one knew health care could be so complicated."

Trump: 'Nobody knew health care could be so complicated' - CNNPolitics

He's used that response a number of times, the "no one knew" response.
Uhhh, yeah Mister President, some of us actually had a clue.
But that IS the biggest indicator that Donald Trump is mentally ill, if not both mentally and physically, the fact that, in his mind, if HE doesn't know something, NOBODY DOES.
And that's the boilerplate Trumpian response whenever he is unable to comprehend the complexity of a problem or issue, to throw out the knee-jerk, "NO ONE KNEW" response.

If Trump doesn't know how complicated something is, clearly NO ONE HAS EVER KNOWN, because in his mind, he is the only one capable of knowing anything.
I don't know about the rest of you, but that is not the mental picture of ANYONE who should be granted the responsibility of leading a nation, or even a McDonald's franchise.

He’s a gleefully ignorant authoritarian.

A terrible combination.

But a combination many of his supporters admire greatly.

If we would be honest, this is what we saw during the campaign and it isn’t much use for diagnosis. It just means that nearly 63 million people are dolts.

From what I have seen it is much worse than what cropped up from time to time during the campaign. Whether it is an accurate diagnosis is irrelevant; what is, is the fact of how stupid he is. He's not just inarticulate but so badly in error on EVERY point that it's an obvious danger to the nation going forward. Look at where he talks about health care. NOT ONE of his comments is even in the right ball park let alone the words of a national leader having claimed he is the smartest person, not just the US, but in the entire world.

Everyone should be very worried at the so called leader of the free world making such grandiose claims. That's total nuts land

The way he repeats himself over and over again within a single statement, is illustrative of a man that is not mentally altogether.

He just says "there was no collusion" like twenty times, hoping everybody will just take his word. But then he gives himself away by stating "even if there was collusion, it's not a crime", like people outside of his base can't see that statement for what it is.

He's a good example of how wealth and intelligence have nothing to do with each other.

The way he babbles with no real point, repeating things he heard on Breitbart/FOX, would be comedic if it wasn't so dangerous to the rest of the nation.

I am not capable of making an accurate assessment of his mental state. Does he resemble my father in HIS early stages of Alzheimer's? Yes. But that could be many things, not the least of which is stress.

However, I agree, his repetition of "there was no collusion" is ominous. It's like he's trying to remind himself.

What I do know is he and his clan are on the ropes. Never, in the history in the US has there ever been such a damaging inside attack on the US justice system. A justice system NO ONE EVER mentioned was corrupt is suddenly riddled with liberals out to get him...the same FBI that pretty much cost Hillary the campaign by "confirming" an investigation" into her affairs.

If it is as corrupt as they are saying NOW, then we need their resignations NOW for having maintained, and therefore abetted and took part in the rampant corruption they're now blubbering about.

That is more than desperation, that is career destroying, burn the bridges stupidity, the act of a rat finally cornered.

It's frightening in that if this is his total scope on things at this point, what is getting through to that brain in his meetings with world leaders? And what is he passing on? It's scary folks, loose cannon thermonuclear scary

The difference between old Donald and our president is stunning. Something is wrong. He speaks in a similar style but there is actual content to his thought processes.

Skip to 1 minutes 20 seconds for him to start speaking. He sounds very sharp and says things that are meaningful. He makes statements that are informative. He doesn't do that anymore. He only talks about things now.

Trump: 'I Have The Absolute Right To Do What I Want With The DOJ.' He's Correct, But The Democrats Are Going Insane.
. . . .
Trump stated, “I have absolute right to do what I want to do with the Justice Department,” adding, “But for purposes of hopefully thinking I’m going to be treated fairly, I’ve stayed uninvolved with this particular matter.” Trump said that Professor Alan Dershowitz of Harvard Law School agreed with his legal analysis.

Now, Trump is right. The executive branch is unitary – meaning that if you work for the executive branch, you work for the president. To suggest that the DOJ is immune to the president is akin to saying that the Environmental Protection Agency is immune to the president – and ever since the expiration of the Office of the Independent Counsel in 1999, there’s been no Congressional challenge to that basic idea.
https://www.dailywire.com/news/25217/trump-i-have-absolute-right-do-what-i-want-doj-hes-ben-shapiro

The executive branch is unitary and no executive department, including the DOJ and FBI is immune from that.

If Dershowitz agrees with you legal analysis, just how much dementia is involved?

This thread is just another leftist / liberal fauxrage TDS circle jerk thread.

35% of the Republican base. Basically, the far right. As long as they never abandon Trump, he will never change.

There were problems, news of which has just come out, that popped up when Trump met with German Chancellor Angela Merkel in March of this year.
TRUMP EXPOSED IGNORANCE DURING TRADE TALK WITH MERKEL, LEAVING WHITE HOUSE AIDES HUMILIATED: REPORT

President Donald Trump appeared to know little, if anything, about international trade deals during an exchange with German Chancellor Angela Merkel in March this year. White House officials reportedly characterized the talk as “humiliating.”

The Republican Trump asked Merkel about creating a new, bilateral trade deal between Germany and the U.S., even though, as a member of the European Union, Germany cannot strike such a deal without the other 27 members of the union, according to The New York Times.

Then there are the stories with Trump bragging about how much the Chinese like him because they threw some really great parties and rallies for him during his trip thru Asia this year.
China isn't the first country to flatter its way to Trump's heart. It won't be the last.
Chinese President Xi Jinping is honoring President Trump with an unusually lavish reception and one-of-a-kind perks in China this week — the latest example of how leaders around the world are using flattery as a diplomatic tool for influencing the American president.

Weeks after Trump’s election, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe made his way to Trump Tower to gift the president-elect with a $4,000 gold-plated golf club. When Saudi Arabia hosted Trump in May, they projected a five-story image of his face onto the Ritz-Carlton hotel where he stayed. Polish politicians bused adoring fans into Warsaw this summer to ensure that the president felt just like he was at rally of his supporters at home.

It’s common for world leaders to honor one another with big welcomes and thoughtful gifts, but there is something over the top and, well, Trumpian about many of their gestures toward the president.

As heads of state struggle to predict what the leader of the free world is thinking or likely to do at any given moment, they have settled on massaging his ego as a way to nudge his mood in their favor.
Little wonder the tale of the "golden showers" are seen as actually possible, even if never verified.

And that has absolutely nothing to do with how the 'news' (political propaganda) media portrays him? :lamo

they portray him on how he acts. Plus, Trump loves the media despite what he tells you. The media is what got him elected president in the first place.

Okay, I've read through the damn thing and can't find anything indicating "alzheimers" or "dementia" or anything else that makes him look "stupid" or "foolish." :doh

He is merely stating his opinions on things being asked. Just because those opinions don't follow the SJW TDS party line on how messed up his administration is supposed to be...doesn't mean they have won some kind of point.

Haters are gonna hate, and even had he given a perfectly reasonable, statesman-like, scripted set of responses; his opponents would figure some way to twist it into a negative.

Yes EVEN IF he ever does...when do you think that might be?

I'm sure it's very obvious but I cannot decipher SJW TDS ??? What does that mean?

Which team is that? Ivanka? Jared? Steve Miller? Most of the cabinet members have been given leave to destroy the departments that they head, so they be very happy with the status quo. Tillerson is here today, maybe gone tomorrow? So who exactly are these level heads watching him closely. I'm seriously interested in knowing the answer to that.

Well, we essentially established that:

1) He is insecure

2) He is impulsive

3) He doesn't know what he's talking about

4) He hasn't any experience

5) He is unlikely to learn

6) Above all else, he values loyalty

7) He wants signing ceremonies, no matter what the contents of the bills are

All things that were perfectly on display during the primary and general campaign season. What's changed is that 63 million people said, "I want that guy to be among the most powerful persons in the history of the world."
