Best or favorite President In your opinion

From all accounts his "slaves" loved him, he treated them well. It was hard for any slave owner to drop ownership in that day. If I run a farm and have 100 people ro farmit for free and the next guy has to pay a fair wage, how does one compete? It has to be all or none. It was very much the norm back then, doesn't make it right, but you can see where our founders were sort of betw
een that rock and that hard place.
A very good and rational explanation.

There is actually no way to quantify "worst" president never mind having 2 "worst".

Presidents that come to mind : George Washington and FDR. also, Teddy Roosevelt for being unbreakable, and Lincoln for holding up under the strain of one of the most difficult presidencies that this nation has ever seen.

fictional :

Morgan Freeman in Deep Impact
Kevin Kline in Dave. haven't seen the film recently to see if it holds up, but i remember it as being heartwarming.

Fictional has to be bill Pullman. Not only is he Lonestar, but he rallies the entire world to beat the unbeatable aliens.

As a person, Teddy Roosevelt. He is easily one of the most fascinating Presidents ever. I dislike his domestic policies, but we might not be the world power today if not for his efforts in building up the navy.

Harrison easily the best politician ever. He died after 31 days in office.

Be kind of nice if all politicians died so quickly.

I would tend to say Obama was a lot more power hungry than Clinton, and both were a hell of a lot more dishonest and corrupt than Nixon.

What planet did you say you lived on again?

Trump could actually make a strong argument for the best......for the sole fact that HRC isnt President.

except that every major economic problem American has ever faced originated from socialist policies.

Please explain how the Great Depression was related to socialist policies........

Actually that really was not that big of an accomplishment, one creep beating another creep in a political race does not change the fact they are a creep.

As far as all the reasons you guys seem to hate Trump, I'm not sure why you don't think Bill Clinton is currently the worst.

Please explain how the Great Depression was related to socialist policies........

Socialism is the total Govt control of an economy.

The Great Depression was caused by actions of the FED, or the Federal Govt trying to manage the economy through the FED.

In America we have "Separation of Church and State." We should also have "Separation of Economy and State."

If we had a genuine free market economy: depressions would be impossible and recessions would be measured in weeks not month or years.

I don't know where you got your education in economics from but I sure hope it wasn't a university. Because if it was you need demand your money back.

I don't even know where to start with your last sentence.

Lincoln, for the greatest both of the man and his presidential story. FDR a close second, same reasons.

Lincoln broke with the constitution and FDR brought on socialist ideals, could not get us out of the great depression and got us into WWII, but OK.

If I'm wrong about anything, correct me. That you cant put up a single counterpoint says it all.

Do you know what "fiscally" and "socially" mean?

Taxes would not be a social issue.

Lincoln overstepped his Constitutional prerogatives (though taking the war to the South and suspending habeas corpus were not among them) and saved the nation. People who don't read history don't realize how close the North came to giving the South what it wanted.

It's odd how conservatives think it is up to the federal government, and specifically the President, to save the economy. Roosevelt got us half way out of the Depression, the war did the rest. And it was Japan that got us into the war.

Nope, we allowed Japan to attack to draw us into the war.

1. Abraham Lincoln, our only political saint.
2. George Washington, everything he did was the first time it had been done.
3. Ronald Reagan, not third best, but best in my adult lifetime.

Herbert Hoover

A mining engineer who later got into politics. His insights into the cause of the depression told him, it was long coming and not much the system at the time could do about it. Turns out he was right. None of the measures FDR tried actually worked. It was Adolf Hitler that ended the depression for us. "God bless Adolf Hitler" was what a Todd Shipyard worker was quoted as saying when he received his first paycheck of $100 a week in the late 30's.

...and we are still left with the fun game of Hooverball.

Hoover actually tried heavy protectionism before he left the whitehouse,, which fdr expanded on.

What dragged out the depression was protectionism, heavy tariffs and trade restrictions, it caused everyone else to do the same, and no one wanted to trade with anyone. It got so bad the soviet union became the top exporter then of grain, which is bad when a country of people dying of starvation under stalin and a communist country believed more in free trade then the western world did then.

Post ww2 the world resumed trade and went back to free trade policies rather then beggar thy neighbor policies.

george W bush, because back when I dealt with the green stuff, His state of mthe union adresses were entertaining, it was like watching a talking monkey.

My choice for greatest president would be for President Hu Jintao of China. His guiding hand in economic reforms and economic growth raised more human beings out of poverty than there are American citizens. His policies of using soft power and economic cooperation allowed China to grow both strong and far more stable during his tenure. He may be surpassed by Xi Jinping but at this point he's still #1 in the running.

No one said this thread was limited to just US Presidents.

Cheers.
Evilroddy.
