Collins backs tax bill, but GOP doesn't deliver on Obamacare payment bills she was promised - CNNPolitics
I would bet that Susan Collins from Maine knows she got duped by the GOP leadership into voting for the tax cut for the wealthy just passed by the GOP. Of course the GOP leadership "promised" her to make the Obamacare payments and of course they are not going to as promised. And they won't anytime in the future as the tax bill itself killed the ACA. The GOP also promised to repeal and replace the ACA and that isn't going to happen. Health insurance is not as important to the GOP as satisfying their donor class. And with the cost of this tax cut for those donors, the country can't afford anything like health care for its other citizens. And next is cuts in Medicaid, Medicare and Social Security, even though the country owes the people who have paid into Medicare and Social Security 2.7 trillion dollars it has borrowed from those programs. You know the country can't afford to pay back those loans, but it can afford to give billions to the wealthiest people in the country.

She didn't get duped.

She made a conscious vote.

probably not. she just got plausible deniability. while it's acceptable to view moderate Republicans as something different than the extreme right wing, you have to remember that at the end of the day, they're still Republicans. Republicans, by definition, will support tax cuts for the rich under every circumstance. it's sort of like when your dog eats the steak that you left out. it's just going to happen, because that's what dogs do.

Reducing taxes is not giving away money...it was theirs to begin with.

Collins willingly chose to defund the ACA. The rest was a fig leaf to justify her vote.

You guys are so predictable. Whenever tax is restructured to benefit the wealthy you cry "Its letting them keep their money".....whenever tax is restructured to benefit the middle class and poor you cry "Wealth redistribution".....too funny.....carry on.

So... the GOP lied to her? Why should she be any different than the rest of us?

She's not special. The GOP has lied to everyone.

The amount of propaganda speak from the left is nauseating.

Now you know what it's like.

But seriously...do YOU really believe they are worse than you?

I was around in the Obama administration and been around for "alternate facts" and an ongoing stream of bull**** from faux issues like "taking a knee" to every tweet from your fuhrer.

So it is with extreme contempt that I view this amazingly hypocritical post

It is sad seeing the lying anti-establishment-anti-elitists Trumpsters defend the elite and establishment GOP each and every time.

It's dishonesty and hypocrisy to the nth degree.

It's no longer a secret on why they voted for, and defend Trump. And it has NOTHING to do with him being anti elist and anti establishment, that's for damn sure. These kind of threads prove that daily.

Are you calling out the government's right to raise funds?

Because under the law, that money is not anyone's but the governments and no matter what, they are the first to be paid.

I find this championing of lower taxes for the rich of America ugly, it is unpatriotic. When the deficit is this high, the debt padded for 100 years because of '08 and we had to buy bank the banking industry it common sense and love of country that should come first.

The poor send their sons and daughters to war, the rich are supposed to pay for it because, well, they usually start it and by demanding tax CUTS you are abandoning your role in your own country. You want security and safety, which gets paid for with American lives. If you aren't paying your fair share of taxes then what exactly are you "contributing" to the country you claim to "love" so much?

Others are paying with their lives, and you want a ****ing discount!

Both statements are true

Under what law and what money are you talking about?

The new law says that money isn't the governments, it remains belonging to its earner.

It's political cover. She's trying to save her seat by pretending to fight for something her state's citizens want. But she's just as big a ****head as every other Republican in office.

Im don't disagree....but Republicans love to cry about one and not the other. They use the statement that fits their current situation when they want to cry about something.

What your talking about is a systemic issue. Ethical arguments aside about if it's fair or not, our income tax system benefits some groups more than others and it also burdens some groups more than others. It is inherently unequal.

Speaking for myself personally, if the gov decides to reduce its tax revenue and it decides that they are going to pass the bulk of that reduction to the group that pays the bulk of the burden, I don't have a problem with that, at least not in principle. The devil is of course is always in the details. That's why I would not state it as a blanket statement and just as a generality.

The bottom line for me is that all these arguments are futile until Washington does something that it refuses to do. Reduce spending. Somehow some way figure out how to spend less. They refuse and borrow, borrow, borrow, tax, tax, tax. Give them more and they spend more. Give them less and at best they slow their spending a little bit but that's all.

I'm not whining about anything just stating fact.

The whole damn corrupt tax system needs to be thrown out and replaced with something that only pays for essential needs. A transaction tax would do that.

So there was a new law passed that said we don't have to pay taxes anymore? Damn. I missed that.

It could be. I'm not clear on what happened here. The reports I'm hearing seem to indicate that she won't get what she expected to get in exchange for her vote. I guess time will tell.

I do have some serious concerns about the healthcare insurance in this country being wrapped up in this new tax bill that they just passed. One shouldn't have any connection to the other. I think they're going to set the healthcare situation in this country back years - many years. And instead of the Democrats owning any problems, the Republicans will. They can't blame any insurance increases on the Democrats anymore.

I have concerns about healthcare too. I know they got rid of the mandate to have insurance but if the carrier is still forced to accept pre-existing conditions and must also provide all the services it was mandated to previously. That will bankrupt them.

Insurance companies need to be able to make policies custom tailored for people and it has to be able to deny people coverage for pre-existing conditions.

OTOH, death of insurance providers might not be the worst option either. Let doctors and patients work out the billing between themselves and prices will fall like a rock.
