Every Leftist Voted Against Pro-Growth Middle Class Tax Cut [W:139]

These are not "entitlement programs" and will not be tweaked by this administration.

However, I hope very much that the real entitlement programs will be attacked.
In other words, you have no idea of the definition of an entitlement program.

An entitlement is a program where citizens have a right to its benefits, as long as they meet the eligibility criteria. There is no question whatsoever that Social Security and Medicare are entitlement programs.

Anyone who believes Trump when he said he wouldn't touch those programs is a Grade A Sucker -- AND has not been paying attention. Paul Ryan said two weeks ago that "entitlement reform" was next -- i.e. SS, Medicare, Medicaid are now on the chopping block.

House Speaker Paul Ryan wants to cut Medicare, punishing a key part of the GOP?s base ? older Americans | Fox News

Oh, so you're fine with your politicians being bought, and the economy slowing down because the vast majority of people can't afford to buy anything? Good to know.

Uh... yeah, the rich have gotten significantly richer -- not because of their actual efforts, but because they are bribing politicians to reduce their taxes. It is hard to see any benefit to this.

As to the poor, they are not improving their quality of life much. In many respects, it's getting worse. The ranks of the poor are growing, and the middle class is shrinking. The most substantial improvement was expanding Medicaid, a change which Republicans have fought tooth and nail for years and years.

And again, the reason why inequality matters is because a) it corrupts our political system, as we see with this very tax bill, b) it harms the economy because consumers can't afford to buy anything and c) it fractures our society as a whole.

As I said, I could give a rat's ass how rich the rich are. It doesn't have anything to do with me. I'm not any poorer because the rich have so much, and neither are the poor. You're talking about politicians being bought, aren't you? The liberal politicians who complain about income inequality so much are bought and paid for just as much as any politician is, some even more so. The trouble is, you guys believe that the economy is a zero sum game. You believe that every dollar the rich have buried in their back yards is a dollar taken away from John Smith. It's not like that. The economy is pretty much always growing. When Bill Gates gets another million, John Smith gets more too. John Smith doesn't get less because Bill Gates gets more but you guys seem to think that both the rich and poor are on a teeter totter and when one side goes up the other side goes down. The economy is not a teeter totter. All sides can go up or all sides can go down when a recession hits.

Okay; my bad. I take that back about the "entitlement" definition. I was thinking about Medicaid, Chip, Snap etc.

I seem to remember the smartest people in the world telling me that the stock market would crash like we’d never seen before after January 8th.

LOL. You really are on a roll tonight. My gosh. Did your wife leave you or something? Merry Christmas and happy 2018.

On the other hand, The Hill reported this morning that Paul Ryan is NOT planning on doing anything to Medicare (I could not find anything about Social Security), but rather to Medicaid ... the welfare program.

"... He did say that welfare reform could encompass Medicaid changes, another controversial area that provoked a backlash, including among some Republicans, as part of ObamaCare repeal earlier this year.

“We’re focused on giving states more flexibility in Medicaid,” Ryan said. “Those are things we think we can do to bring more savings to the budget and more importantly to get people from welfare to work, and those are the kinds of things we’re going to be focused on in 2018.” ...
"

So, with a bit of luck, the Trump administration can clean up the welfare programs we have and reduce the "entitlement" crowd.

LOL. You really are on a roll tonight. My gosh. Did your wife leave you or something? Merry Christmas and happy 2018.

So now you bring my wife into the discussion, Moderate Right, asking whether she left me or not!!!

Would you like to talk to her ???

So another GOPoster with the personal insults, Barnacle, accusing me of being drunk. I sure will be glad to wake up sober tomorrow ...

I don't know why you leftys don't understand that when taxes are generally cut those who pay the most get the most cut. If thats not happening you're simply redistributing income. So, you either don't understand math or support income redistribution. Which is it ?

Bwahahaha

70% of the tax bill's benefits go to corporations. That doesn't benefit the middle class.

This bill is not written to provide the middle class much relief. It's a huge giveaway to corporations and the wealthy. To wit:

• The estate tax limit is now lifted to $11 million. If you have more than $11 million in the bank, you're not middle class.

• The bill killed recharacterization of IRAs. How does that help the middle class?

• The bill kills the tax incentives for small businesses to contribute to employee retirement. How does that help the middle class?

• The bill severely curtails SALT deductions -- i.e. filers can get double-taxed. There are lots of middle class households in states with high state and property taxes, how does this change help them?

• The bill eliminates the personal exemptions, which is $4050 per person. This nixes much of the benefits. How does that help a household with an income of $75,000 a year?

• Deductions are now linked to chained CPI, which is lower than the standard inflation rate. This means that deductions, exemptions etc will be worth less in the future than without that change. Woah! Sign me up.

• The only real potential benefit is for families with lots of kids, as Rubio crowbarred a child tax credit into the bill. The thing is.... All of the individual changes expire in 2025. So even if you're right, all those changes die in 8 years -- while the corporate tax cuts are permanent. Yup, another big win for the middle class.

Play around with the CNN calculator. For households of $75k to $225k, it looks like they get around a 5% break. We're talking a few thou a year; if a household saves $3000, that's a whopping $250/month. That's what, your monthly tab for Starbucks and cable TV, right?

So, here's the real kicker. The Republicans have spent months cutting taxes, which means lost tax revenue, which means higher deficits and higher debts. They know this will cost about $150 billion per year; their own rules stipulate that's the maximum revenue they can give up. What is now likely to happen is the Republicans will insist that we must slash Social Security and Medicare because... the deficits will be too high at the current rates! Needless to say, this will be a huge kick in the face to middle-class households, if not now, then when they retire.

This bill doesn't benefit the middle class. The middle class, for the most part, understands this. That's why this tax bill is singularly unpopular, and is even less popular that several tax hikes.

So now you bring my wife into the discussion, Moderate Right, asking whether she left me or not!!!

Maybe you got fired from your job and are now unemployed. I'm truly sorry you are in bad sorts tonight. Maybe your wife will come back and you will get your job back. After all, the Trump tax cuts should increase employment and wages in the coming year and this, in return, will make your chances of finding a new spouse better. You have a lot to look forward to. Life isn't as bad as you think. You just have to keep a positive attitude.

Hey, keeping $50. of your own money is always good.

I probably will not see any of it since I live in Kalifornia, but I'm grateful that many Americans will.

It just goes to show you, leftists are so stingy and selfish they whine and complain if you get keep even a lousy $50 of your own frickin' money. LOL

Already looked it up I am saving 5% off my taxes. It is going to be great.
I can't wait for the bump in pay.

You left out that they double the standard deduction and doubled the child tax credit.
There is also a family tax credit if you have kids that do not qualify.

You left out that the brackets for middle income people dropped from 15 to 12%.

So why are you being dishonest.

A lot of people are going to be happy with that 5%.
It is more than they get out of liberals.

If liberals were so concerned they would have helped craft the bill instead of being the party of no. The middle class cuts could have been permanent if democrats decided not to be the party of no.

Your misunderstanding of what's in this tax bill is laughable.

I'm sure he's still trying to grasp that the "Patriot Act" wasn't actually patriotic. Some people are just complete dupes for a title.

Maybe you got fired from your job and are now unemployed.

So now your personal insults have moved into my personal life with getting fired from my job!!! Well done, Moderate Right. I do enjoy my pension.

I'm truly sorry you are in bad sorts tonight. Maybe your wife will come back and you will get your job back.

And now more personal insults about my wife; how trumpian of you.

After all, the Trump tax cuts should increase employment and wages in the coming year and this, in return, will make your chances of finding a new spouse better. You have a lot to look forward to. Life isn't as bad as you think. You just have to keep a positive attitude.

And still more personal insults on my wife from Moderate Right ...

I'll take 50$ a month....

you want a government check of 1k a month or something?

If a tax cut of $50 a month to the middle class is supposed to be so great... why do they sunset it while leaving the rich tax cut permanent?

The real sad thing is I do NOT think its misunderstand by any stretch of the imagination. The right wing which supports this knows full well that the vast majority of benefit of this goes to corporations with money and rich folks with money and the debt is increased and people are cut off insurance and THEY DO NOT CARE. That is the type of program they want and support and all the talk about a middle class tax cut is them laughing up their sleeves as they bend everyone else over the table knowing full well what they are doing and who gets hurt by it.

The right wing is evil. Make no mistake about that.

And down the road they will use these cuts to demand more cuts in social spending.

Do you realize how many small business are corporations? Do you realize how many people these small home grown, home town corporations there really are? You have no idea. Your hate is predicated on facts that are not facts at all, just to small of an idea of who owns corps, and who they employ. Hundreds of thousands of Corps exist in America today. all of them will benefit from these corporate tax cuts. Every small town private Corporation will benefit.. Jobs will be created... Only a hand full of Corporations are publically traded and you have heard of...

Need more education?

Handing you that $50 bucks a month and the corporate masters so much more costs us all an extra trillion dollars in deficit spending... it's not your money you are keeping.

What the heck do you mean "it is not your money"?

Are you American? Wow just Wow...

No wonder we kicked the progressives azzes in the elections...

I didn't say any of those were true. I'm just trying to figure out why you are all out of sorts tonight. Maybe you could let us know what catastrophic event happened to get you all in a tizzy. Maybe you are one of those rich New Yorkers or Californians who won't be able to deduct more than 10k in state, local, or property taxes on their 2018 return. Blame the left for the tax plan, not Trump. Republicans have doubled the standard deduction and raised the child tax credit in order to help the poor and screwed you rich people from high tax blue states.

We are going an extra $1 trillion in deficit spending for this money. I bet you think your credit card spending is your money too.

Math. Learn it.

Yes you did ...

Yes you did ...

You are clearly not thinking straight tonight. I'm sorry you are having such a rough time. Don't worry though. Trump and the Republicans will make your life better, even if they have to drag you kicking and screaming on the way. It will be alright in the end.

As I said, I could give a rat's ass how rich the rich are. It doesn't have anything to do with me.
And I've already explained how it does.

I'm not any poorer because the rich have so much, and neither are the poor.
I can't say anything about your specific situation, nor do I expect you to tell us about your own financial condition.

That said, millions of people are, in fact, poorer because of the things that have made the wealthy even wealthier. Let's review a few.

1) Repeated tax cuts for the wealthy exert pressure to cut social safety nets.

2) The wealthy largely get and stay wealthy as a result of asset changes and manipulations. Let's see how this makes other people poorer.

a) Pressure for short-term stock gains pushes corporations to lay off staff.
b) It pushes corporations to move labor offshore.
c) It pushes corporations to automate heavily.
d) It pushes financial companies to increase their own risks, which are contagious, and can hurt the entire economy (e.g. financial collapse in 2007, did you forget that one already?)
e) Obviously, it encourages big companies to engage in fraud and take advantage of poor and middle-class people.

3) As the wealthy keep getting their way, they routinely remove protections for citizens, ranging from rolling back consumer protections, to rolling back critical regulations, to allowing corporations to pollute at will.

4) There is lots of evidence that income inequality reduces growth. And yes, that means it will ultimately hurt everyone, though it will clearly hit the poor more than the wealthy.

It is a fantasy to imagine that you are completely immune from any ill effects of the further deterioration of the economic condition of the entire nation.

You're talking about politicians being bought, aren't you? The liberal politicians who complain about income inequality so much are bought and paid for just as much as any politician is, some even more so.
This latest tax bill makes it very clear that Republicans have been bought and paid for. Don't even kid yourself on that score.

Along those lines: No one was lobbying Democrats to expand Medicaid spending, or to tighten up Medicare rules in order to make it more efficient. No one lobbied Obama to expand national monuments. No one lobbied Obama or Congress to create the Consumer Protection Bureau. No one lobbied Obama and Congress to increase the top marginal tax rate by 3%. The Koch Brothers did not throw millions at Democrats with the expectation they would get their way with them.

The Democrats (and few remaining conservatives and Republicans with backbones) are certainly not perfect, and the reality is that there is no way to win elections without big donors. That said, the past year -- especially this tax bill -- lays bare the corruption of the Republicans.

The trouble is, you guys believe that the economy is a zero sum game. You believe that every dollar the rich have buried in their back yards is a dollar taken away from John Smith.
lol

No, there is not a big pot of dollars sitting in the clouds, where only a limited number rains down every year. However, it is a reality that the rich are getting richer now, not because of their own work, but because they keep bribing legislators into cutting their taxes.

When Bill Gates gets another million, John Smith gets more too.
That's not even remotely correct.

Bill Gates is no longer drawing a salary from any company. When Bill Gates "gets another million," these days that's because Microsoft (or some other stock he holds) has risen in value. By definition, this means that his net worth has increased because of work that thousands of other people have done. Absolutely nothing about that process confers any benefit whatsoever on John Smith, whoever he may be.

Smith may not directly lose money -- but he certainly loses influence. Gates can throw money at politicians, he can buy ads, he can buy PR campaigns, he can throw tens or hundreds of millions at his pet projects and personal priorities.

It also isn't that hard to imagine situations where Gates benefits when someone else is harmed. Specifically, let's say Microsoft announces it will fire 5,000 employees. This boosts Microsoft's stock price (Gates gains) while those 5,000 employees are obviously out of a job.
