Forgetting about the silliness of people crying for a return of what has probably been stereotyped as the worst possible job in America, does anyone actually believe coal mining jobs are coming back now that Trump is president?

Seriously.

For goodness sake... how many threads have been started over this? I guess it's just a slow posting Sunday?
But I guess it's better than "Russian collusion". :2razz:

It’s probably too soon to tell. Stats aren’t out there. At last count, we exported 7% of our production. I suppose there might be opportunity to export more. And unless coal fired plants shut down, who knows? Anyone answering is simply taking a WAG.

They are coming back and after that we reopen all those VCR factories.

I don't think coal mining jobs will come back, but reality means nothing in Trump world.

The jobs are not coming regardless how much coal is demanded.

along with record players.

Hey, we need to bring back gas station attendants. Someone should campaign on that. Well, maybe some nutty Republican actually will.

Okay. Asked by poster. Answered by poster. Time to close the thread.

You don’t find your so-called proof immaterial? Stats end in 2015. I gave you a serious answer. You gave us a baloney sandwich.

Interesting chart. It looks like there was a significant job loss during the 90's, probably due to automation. After that the job numbers do rise with production, just not very much. If people are waiting for mining jobs to return instead of seeking other opportunities, the supply of workers will depress wages in the jobs that remain.

They will come back to a certain degree, coal did not die out, it was artificially regulated out, while it's competitors subsidised to make them cheaper and coal more expensive. If trump rolls back those rules, some coal jobs will return, however coal jobs have been on a decline for decades because automation has replaced many parts of the job.

We have them here... person comes out to fill gas and ask to check oil and water...

Actually record players are coming back. Though they never completely went away.

I don’t get it. Don’t republicans have children who breathe air?

Liberals need to talk about clean air, asthma and cancer instead of climate change.

Nobody wants a coal burning plant anywhere near them.

Moreover, it makes little economic sense to invest capital in fossil fuels at a time where everyone is preparing for their end.

Even the Chinese are investing heavily in solar and other renewables. The current administration is just stupid on so many levels.
