Trump’s tweet

Last edited:
I always hate it when we get down to this point, but here it is: The President is either an idiot or a criminal, but probably both. We are here, of course MSNBC Morning Coffee Joe says Trump's insane, but that's something different
Joe and him were actually friends, until not too long ago.

It's totally sick what Trump recently did to him, in alluding to murder.

Well, Trump is certainly guilty of lying, one way or the other.

And here's the new lie being delivered to cover up that lie...

Uh huh. They're also trying to say that John Dowd wrote the tweet for him, a claim that nobody on earth believes, and is going to go the way of "I fired Comey because he was unfair to Clinton" in less than a day.

I completely disagree with you. He is as vulnerable as any president if he has broken the law. Repubs will not protect him when and if the chips go down.

I think it is great that you are still that naive about the times we now live in but no, there is no longer any semblance of accountability.

Just think about that though. He is/was his friend. I think something sleazy happened there, but imagine if your friend started acting like how the President acts on a daily basis. You would be concerned too. It's hard to break out of trollish behavior and I don't think Trump will.

Yeah - but I was speaking about the darkness of the U.S. President alluding to Joe murdering a now deceased women, and urging MSNBC to fire him, ostensibly because the President isn't happy with the coverage the journalist's been giving him.

I find this not just sick, but quite horrifying. This is not my America. Not the country my father, uncle, and friends & neighbors fought for.

He’s claimed from the start no one from his team had contacts with Russians. Now two of the four indicted have pleaded guilty to lying about having contact with Russians.

You need to keep up. Now they are saying there was nothing illegal about contacts with Russians. The story changes to fit when lies are revealed. You name it, they are as guilty as sin. Flynn knew it wasn't really a prosecutable crime to simply "talk" to the Russian ambassador so why did he lie about it? Because it is what he said that was the crime..... and it is all on tape.

Trump is a troll. I don't take anything he says too seriously. Since most of it is so insane. That's why I was originally surprised by the tweet. It was actually coherent, and why I thought maybe lawyer speak. No standard Trump flair.

12:14 Dec 2:
I had to fire General Flynn because he lied to the Vice President and the FBI. He has pled guilty to those lies. It is a shame because his actions during the transition were lawful. There was nothing to hide!

9:06 Dec 2:
So General Flynn lies to the FBI and his life is destroyed, while Crooked Hillary Clinton, on that now famous FBI holiday “interrogation” with no swearing in and no recording, lies many times...and nothing happens to her? Rigged system, or just a double standard?

9:13 Dec 2:
Many people in our Country are asking what the “Justice” Department is going to do about the fact that totally Crooked Hillary, AFTER receiving a subpoena from the United States Congress, deleted and “acid washed” 33,000 Emails? No justice!

Then he attacks ABC News. Notice anything different between first and second tweet???

I think we may be missing something here... His tweet, paraphrased, said something like, “I fired Flynn because he lied to VP Pence and the FBI.” Sounds like he knew Flynn had lied to the FBI when he fired Flynn. I agree with that. It does. And if so, we are all assuming Trump is guilty of obstruction of justice.

Not so fast.

In order for that to be obstruction of justice, two more things must be true...

  1. Trump must have known he lied to the FBI at that time.
  2. Trump must have KEPT that knowledge FROM the FBI.

Trump had no legal duty to tell the public the full extent of why he fired Flynn. None at all.

There is this printed in February 2017...

Timing is everything.

So, those who say that tweet is definitive evidence that Teump is guilty of obstruction have, yet again, jumped the gun.

I'm not a lawyer, but that sentence has been known for months and I hope the FBI read the line after tweet at the latest.

The only piece of news is that Flynn will cooperate with Mueller and that something about Flynn's talking with Russia diplomats was known to Kushner. That is not much to write an article on, so the wires around the world are buzzing with speculation to fill the empty pages.

Sure, he knew it was stupid to assume contacts to the Russian diplomats or oligarchs was illegal. But he also knew that the media were looking for something that could be used to whip up a mobbing rage against Trump. If that was, what he thought, he seems to have been right.

You feeling ok from all the gymnastic wording and spinning you did? Trump lied and most likely did obstruct. Ok but who from the crooked, stealing and lying GOP is going to impeach trump over it? Don’t worry trump will he just fine with his beaten down GOP dogs.

Actually, you are misrepresenting the truth, when you call Trump a liar ie say he lied. He might have. You certainly believe he did. To say he did without conclusive proof? That sounds like a lie.

They are now claiming a lawyer drafted the tweet.

Do you really think Trump does his tweets alone? A friend of mine that ran a sectiin of the German economics ministry reporting directly to the Minister of Economics used Facebook and Twitter, but almost all of his comments were done by his office working with a PR consultancy. My suspicion would be that Trump might be forced by time restrictions to do the same.

I don't agree with your two stipulations, Maggie.

An obstruction charge needs only to show Trump tried to impede the investigation. Motive is irrelevant.

Stating publicly that he fired Flynn for lying to the fbi doesn't seem obstruction to me.

Nope - he's going down. The repubs needed that tax bill to pay off their donors, but they barely tolerate Trump. Now they can dump him, and all his people - point and gasp in shock and dismay - and hope it's enough to rebrand them before the 2018 elections. They would never get the pedophile supporters anyway. But they can play for the independents and the suburban voters they lost and claim to have moved back to the middle.

A lawyer for Clinton? ;)

That is one useful meme!

I seem to recall Trump claiming Flynn was fired for lying to Pence. No?

I get around but no one has sufficiently explained to me the relationship between Flynn and Trump, so I dont know what to make of this. But I do know that Trump has been warned since at least Oct 2016 that Flynn is dangerous, I do know that even now Trump acts like he has complete faith in Flynn.

This is highly interesting to watch.

All my life the legal rule has always been ignorance of the law is not a defense.
All of a sudden it's well he's new he didn't know.
America has gone bat **** crazy!

That is, what he said in the speech. But Comey seemed to have talked with him about Flynn. That makes it relatively probable that he was briefed in Flynn having said things inconsistent with what was assumed to be true.

No idea.

All I have to work with is Trump's statements.

You understand this is post-election, right? Surely you know something so basic.

Yeah...I don't get it. We already knew that this was why Flynn was fired. This is over half a year old news.

  1. By his own admission, Trump knew Flynn had broken the law and lied to the FBI about his conversations with the Russian ambassador.
  2. Trump then leaned on Comey to "see your way clear to letting this go, to letting Flynn go."
  3. Comey did not this go. Trump then, again by his own admission, fired Comey over "this Russia thing with Trump."

Doesn't take Sherlock Holmes to crack this case.
