I'm Not Racist!

I actually liked it. And it's interesting to see that a good amount of black people were quite receptive to the video, like they liked the white guys points lol...

It was just rather shocking to see a white guy go off like that, I've never seen that....I'm pretty sure this would be the only format where something like this would work...

I do hope the ending comes true.

Me too. What I got from it is like a lesson that we need to scream at each other face to face... get it off our chest then we can embrace and move forward. At least I hope we can.

And that my friend, is the definition of art.

Like back in the day where monarchs ruled everything... you'd be executed if you said, "Holy **** the king is slaughtering people!" But the king will embrace you if you present the same thing in a painting or song. And history lives on rather than being destroyed and rewritten. The beauty of art.

I figure that could be therapeutic. I don't understand though the idea that a white person or a black person is a representative of their race but i understand it's a metaphor

Nope, the characters as portrayed in this video were both overt racists to their cores and were busy scapegoating each other for their own troubles; between the repeated denials of their own racism. When you project your own troubles and their root causes onto other people or races without a causal link, that's prejudice and racism. The hugs at the end were just silly and a videographer's affectation to sweep the problem under the rug before the video ended. Racism can only be reduced by being able to put yourself in the other person's shoes and making the decision to work together in order to solve your common problems. In my opinion we are all racists by nature, myself included, and it takes a conscious effort and an iron will to deny that nasty nature and transcend race and other social divisions. So my motto is, "I am a racist, but I'm trying to be less so". While not perfect, it has served me well to date.

Cheers.

Lol, it was the same guy rapping the whole time. They were lip syncing.

The first half of the video I was like wtf, even though it was a similar flow to that of Eminem it didn't sound like a white guy rapping.

I almost turned it off 2 minutes in, because I was so offended by the language and the hate speech. But I didn't. And I'm glad I didn't. Great video.

I know right? I actually got choked up a bit.

And that is about as negative and pessimistic as one could be approaching this.

I see it as emblematic of random folks with ingrained frustrations who need to blow it off at each other then get a beer together.

It was one artist. Don't know why that's an issue... But was it or was it not what the entrenched opposition are saying about each other on this topic?

It isn't an issue, I was just pointing out to Celtic that it was lip synching and not actually a white guy going off on anyone.

For the most part yes, some of it was a bit over done but the overall message of the video was great. I hadn't been interested in rap for years because most of the modern stuff is garbage compared to the 90s/early 2000s (most likely nostalgia talking here) but I really the sound of the guy rapping.

Theres better rap now than there ever was. What you and I face due to our age is the challenge in the change of the method of delivery. If you rely on the radio to bring it to you like we used to... it will be crap. But if you are into it, there is some great stuff out there on the net. From eminems really bizarre word patterns to busdriver to Chance the Rapper. I can't stand the crappy gangsta rap tough guy garbage but there's even some cool stuff in there if you tune out the lyrics and just listen to how the words sound as it were and instrument and not actually saying something.

This is a gansta rap song which the words together meaning-wise just suck... but the melody of the words together... undeniably cool sounding.

And not like this one is really new but... cool. Makes you want to get on your feet for sure.

Lol, we will just have to disagree. You say tune out the lyrics but what was great about the 90s and 2000s was the lyrics were not only catchy but in many cases carried meaning along with it (one reason I enjoyed the video in the OP). It is rare to see any songs like Changes (Tupac) or Today was a good day (Ice Cube) come out anymore.

Oh, didn't know that
