Free speech and Rap music

When I am in town with my family one of the last things I want to hear is...

Most towns have noise ordinances if the music volume is excessive. There's little that can be done to censor the lyrics themselves, but freedom of speech does also grant the right to avoid speech you don't like. If someone's speech is being belted so loudly you have to go radically out of your way to avoid hearing it then there is likely a legal course of action that could be taken.

I'm going out on a limb and guessing you had to google the lyrics to that song because you really couldn't tell what they were based entirely on what you heard coming out of someone's car.

Rock and heavy metal can have some pretty violent lyrics too. Even pop music has violence, but it's usually disguised in metaphor.

Our culture as a whole is violent. I'd rather people listen to violent rap or play violent video games than actually go shoot up a school or stadium, but we have both now, so.

Personally I hope I live to see the day when commercial rap goes the way of the dinosaur but I doubt it'll happen in my life time.

Rap is crap.
There are rap videos disrespecting women.
There are rap artists wearing rosaries as jewelry.
There are rappers using the Lord's name in vain among fowl language.
Finally what gets me are the anti-police lyrics inciting violence against them.
Meek Mills
Kendric Lemar
Juna Mafia and others.
Boom Boom Boom. The noise shakes your car....very liberal.
Bring back the Four Seasons days.

This is an odd thing that bothers me. Every year it seems to become more common for people in my community to blare out loud, profane rap music from their cars or stereos in public places where families and young kids may congregate. Now if it were a white supremacist or anti gay preacher or antifa activist who was screaming on a street corner then it would not bother me in the least no matter how much I may disagree with their message I would feel they have a 1st amendment right to share it. But this rap music thing is too much. When I am in town with my family one of the last things I want to hear is...

"Get low, get low, get low get low!
To the window, to the wall!
Til the sweat drop down my balls
Til all these bitches crawl
Til all skeet skeet mother****ers, all skeet skeet god damn!
Til all skeet skeet mother****ers, all skeet skeet god damn!"

Not exactly child friendly stuff. Some of my friends love this stuff, I can't stand it, and I think you should be free to listen to it all you want in your own space, but blasting it next to the playground at the park? I generally consider myself live and let live but if they started passing laws to fine or lock these people up, I doubt I would protest too hard. Is this now an acceptable thing in society?

You really can’t dofferentiate between a stupid idiot with stupid music and a stupid opinion. Not legally anyway. If you say one is protected both must be. My argument would be that the level of the music would need to be determined to be a legitimate hazard to hearing (for those outside), or an obstruction/hazzard to the lives of others. It doesn’t matter to me if it is god awful modern rap of god awful modern country (they both suck). There IS level that can be not just intrusive to other’s lives...but a traffic hazard (can’t hear sirens).

Methinks you don’t listen to your own music carefully. Tell me. What do you listen to? Which artists?

Ps

Modern rap sucks. But only because when it is compared to truly skilled rap..it is the equivalent of eating at McDonald’s or worse...Krystal’s. Where skilled rap is like eating a gourmet meal.

50's rock and roll was gangsta in it's day. Rap is now called hip hop, it's not called rap.

Country music makes people drink. When you play it back words, you get your dog back.

The worst music is gospel. If it was played to loud should they be ticketed?

In the city there are a few ame churches yelling and yes they should be cited for noise. I agree with Dirt Sands.
