Are Donald Trump and Roy Moore the ideal Republican candidates?

Coincidentally they both face serious allegations..

However, outside of the allegations, they were both basically extreme, cartoonish right wingers, who pandered to the Christian base and used fear mongering about race or homosexuality as a stepping stool. They are the true kings of identity politics. (That doesn't exclude the Democrats from partaking in that particular tool.)

So, we got Roy Moore and Donald Trump who gargle, roar, and bluster about anything "right wing". Take your pick. Border security, 2nd amendment, Muslim-American persecution, Homosexuality. They portray themselves as champions of an "old way" and they fashion themselves as defenders of your values, etc. Even though, they are vehemently opposed by all but the Trump base, the Trump vortex sucks sanity inside.

Well, this is a serious thread. I bet you all thought I was going to go on about how conservatives are serial rapists or something. Nah. Serious things to consider. Do the characteristics of right wing populism, found within Trump and Roy Moore make up the ideal Republican candidate?

Were Hillary and Bernie the ideal Democratic candidates? Never mind. Stupid question to ask a progressive.

Encouraging the president to troll half of the country that he governs was bound to come back to hurt us.

For the first six months, every scandal was, "this is it, this must be the limit; they have to hold him accountable for this," only to be disappointed at every turn.

It's becoming painfully clear that the 30% or so who give him their unwavering support are either not paying attention or actively invested in hurting this country.

It is the 70% (AKA 100% of the resistance) who think that way.

First, I'll say that I don't know a whole lot about Moore. I'm not from Alabama, so he's just not on my radar.

But I have a few comments about your characterizations of Trump:

1. He's not a candidate. He's President.

2. He's not an extreme right winger.

3. He doesn't pander to the Christian base.

4. He doesn't fear monger about race or homosexuality.

5. Border security and the 2nd Amendment are enshrined in our Constitution. If you don't support those things, maybe you are in the wrong country.

6. He doesn't persecute Muslims.

7. He doesn't champion "the old way". In fact, in regards to corrupt, Elite Congressmen he is their worst nightmare.

8. The only identity he promotes is Americanism.

The only thing about your OP that I find "serious" is your biased nonsense about Trump. You are an example of the media-inspired low-info people in our country.

Um, your president retweets Breitbart and you think I have a credibility problem???

1. He's not a candidate. He's President.

Really? Listening to him and Fox News you would think Hillary won.

2. He's not an extreme right winger.

True. McCain hit it on the head. The man has no principles or beliefs. He just takes advantage of situations.

3. He doesn't pander to the Christian base.

"I think maybe that will be my greatest contribution to Christianity — and other religions — is to allow you, when you talk religious liberty, to go and speak openly, and if you like somebody or want somebody to represent you, you should have the right to do it," Trump said. A ban was put in place by President Lyndon Johnson on tax-exempt groups making explicit political endorsements. Religious leaders in America today, Trump said, "are petrified."

Yup. Petrified.

4. He doesn't fear monger about race or homosexuality.

"Why doesn't he show his birth certificate?"

"They're bringing drugs. They're bringing crime. They're rapists."

"We're having problems with the Muslims, and we're having problems with Muslims coming into the country."

"You had a group on one side that was bad, and you had a group on the other side that was also very violent."

5. Border security and the 2nd Amendment are enshrined in our Constitution. If you don't support those things, maybe you are in the wrong country.

How many his events does Trump let people bring guns to?

6. He doesn't persecute Muslims.

He literally said he wanted to kick out all Syrian refugees who are Muslim, create a database of Muslims, and literally said we are "at war" with Muslims. That isn't even going into the travel ban. What do you think "persecute" means?

7. He doesn't champion "the old way". In fact, in regards to corrupt, Elite Congressmen he is their worst nightmare.

As opposed to the child molesting kind?

8. The only identity he promotes is Americanism.

Exactly which American institutions and traditions does he promote? His relentless attacks on free speech unless it glorifies him? When he threatens the NFL because of player protests? Claiming the intelligence community is bonkers because Putin denies interfering in our elections while he continues the same practices elsewhere in the Western World?

If Trump is the American identity then sign me up for something else. I am not a bully or self serving asshat.

As opposed to your Fox News, Trumpist propaganda inspired, people in our country?

Don't care about Breitbart. My comment was about YOUR post.

She doesn't exist as far as I know.

A Moderate or Independent would be good enough though.

The turnout isn't large enough to say so, unless you think that they are so bland that Democrats seem not to care, whether they are elected or not. At least for Trump this seems obvious.
Ted Kennedy, on the other hand , was the ideal Democrat. Don't you think?

Maybe someone like a Susan Collins?

Yes. She is more of what I would like. She broke from the GOP again recently with the net neutrality issue.
