Seattle commies take a hit

Looks like their little wealth redistribution plan blew up in their faces.

https://www.seattletimes.com/seattl...me-tax-on-the-wealthy-is-illegal-judge-rules/

This has nothing to do with "commies" and was a lame attempt to introduce an income tax inside a city within a state that has none. Washington, like Texas, relies (primarily) on sales and property taxes to support its state and local governments. These make "the rich" pay more taxes plans rely on the fact that "the rich" are a non-protected minority that are easily offset at the polls by those that receive "safety net" help. The article noted that the purpose of adding an entirely new taxation system was to make "the rich" pay their fair share and to (possibly?) help the homeless and/or (eventually?) to reduce property taxes.

I'm far from that, but I still think it's punishing people who make more money. We should have a flat tax rate and just stop all this **** already.

The proposed Seattle income tax had a flat rate of 2.25% and a standard deduction of $250K.

Seattle is one of the most successful cities in the US: highly educated with incredible wealth creation. Anyone not seeing that is a complete idiot.

Liberals = communists

2.5% additional tax on incomes $250,000 and over. I wish we had a standard deduction of 250k!

I've learned, working for a University, the higher educated the less common sense, in most cases. Add a Ph.D. and they seem to lose touch with the reality of the struggles of the common working class. They can keep their highly educated there, where they can pontificate the meaning of life.

My point was that the proposed Seattle city income tax had a single flat rate even if it applied only to income over $250K.

And my point it that is 2.5% more you would have to pay just because you are successful. I do not consider that fair in any way.

Punitive taxes are. Re-read the Communist Manifesto.

2.5% only applied to anything above $250,000 is not punitive.

You seemed to be arguing that a higher standard deduction is a good thing and had previously stated a preference for a (single) flat income tax rate. IMHO, having both a more generous standard deduction and a (single) flat taxation rate on any income above that amount is a very fair method of income taxation. The problem is that Washington state prohibits income taxation which is why the court struck that city law down.

So do the Cons. Oklahoma is dominated by so-called conservatives, routinely try to limit abortion, put the 10 commandments on state property, refuse to tax oil production at the same level as those rabid commies in North Dakota...

But according to self proclaimed commie ex-spurt Adspt punitive taxes are commie- the wacky Conservatives in our state legislature want to social engineer with a punitive tax on cigarettes (all in yet another failed attempt to cover a YUGE budget deficit). Now that continual red ink drain comes while our economy is strong, employment high and all the tax cuts designed to bring in revenue (remember the con meme is cutting taxes boosts revenue due to economic growth)

It hasn't and our state legislature ignores it's own LAW that the state budget must be finished before a certain date.

Failed economic theory

punitive taxes

Social engineering

Seems pretty damned commie to me... :peace

Where does this “red ink” come from?

Socialist legistaltion and socialist schemes. It sure isn’t the product of limited government.

Capitalism, and reducing taxes (revving up the economic engine) brings growth, and allows upward mobility. Socialism surely doesn’t.

It also results in greater revenues as there is more economic activity, more people pulling the sled instead of sitting in it sucking resources.

Taxes are used to suppress behavior.

It’s really not that difficult, unless you’ve welded yourself to the Democratic Communists platform... and are so enslaved to it, the individual would find it embarrassing to change.

Do you consider it far that those who are poor have to spend a much greater percent of their income to eat, to pay rent, to buy clothes to wear? For instance, even if a rich person eats in a fancy restaurant every meal, they spend a lower percentage of their income on food than a poor person does, even if that poor person is being very frugal.

Look, the world isn't fair - we get that. But perhaps it's good to bear in mind what Plutarch said about 2,000 years ago: "An imbalance between rich and poor is the oldest and most fatal ailment of all republics." Two thousand years ago, that was already known as the "oldest and most fatal ailment of all republics". Live in a third-world country (as I have) and you'll see that "keeping things fair by charging the rich no more than the poor" results in few or no social services...

...and you know what happens? The poor stay poor - very, very few of them rise above their station. At least they can here in America and - to an even greater extent - in the other "socialized" first-world democracies. Beware of the Ayn Rand Kool-Aid - it's not nearly as healthy as you seem to think.

This is straight up communism. It has "From each according to his means, to each according to his needs" written all over it.

Look how the Liberals lose their minds. Thay're feeling threatened because I exposed their agenda.

Seattle is a lot richer and far smarter than any city in Louisiana. Are you jealous?

They too stupid to pass a tax law that's actually legal: so...

You really are one trick pony. Get some new material.

You all's insults and personal attacks prove me right. You do know that, don't you?

You called me a trick pony, Calamity called me stupid. Keep up the good work!

Oh the typical knee jerk rant of the rabid right...

OKLA-freakin-HOMA isn't a hot bed of socialist legislation. Our teachers are some of the lowest paid in the Republic, our schools are collapsing, infrastructure spending has halted, VA state funding slashed- this isn't socialist schemes this is the core services the state is supposed to pay for! :doh

Our rabid right legislatures along with our idealog governor, claimed cutting business taxes would bring increased economic activity. Lure new businesses in from such places as Kommiefornica. Cutting income tax would put more money in citizen's pockets and that would boost consumer spending. Slashing the one dependable tax resource- oil production- would boost revenue.

NONE OF THOSE THINGS HAPPENED.

Now we have our second special session to try and fix the YUGE budget shortfall. North Dakota (another commie state????) taxes oil at 10%, our legislature argues if we go higher than 2% the oil companies will drill elsewhere...WTF?????? as if the oil can be moved along with the drilling platform???

But our rabid right tough feeders have passed various tax increases to social engineer- apparently taxes are good when we label them 'sin' taxes.... but the policy is as commie as any other social engineering crap the rabid right claims the liberals use.

However the rabid right slices it, the cutting taxes raises revenue has proven bogus yet again, our state is foundering, our schools are a joke, teacher pay is abysmal, and now even core services are slashed past the bone... :peace

The city council was just floating a test balloon to see if the left leaning state supreme court could discover a new interpretation of the state constitution that would allow an income tax. If it had passed scrutiny, the next step would jave been a statewide income tax.

At they're accurate with their information...
