I despise Roy Moore but he's not a pedophile. Roy Moore is a creep who pursued teenagers below the age of consent. I hate when people try to expand the meanings of words. It's dishonest. Pedophiles are attracted to pre-pubescent children.

Roy Moore is not a pedophile

The hashtags #RoyMoorePedophile and #RoyMooreChildMolester have trended on Twitter over the past week. The New York Daily News ran a column that called Roy Moore an “accused pedophile” in its headline. In a live interview on MSNBC, Republican strategist Steve Schmidt said, “Roy Moore is a pedophile. He’s a child molester.”

The outrage against the Republican Senate candidate from Alabama is entirely fitting, but the terminology is not. Moore is not a pedophile. If you believe his accusers, as we do, he is a powerful man who has serially harassed and even assaulted teenage girls.

The difference matters. Moore’s alleged crime was not a sexual orientation toward children. It was his willingness to exploit the unequal power structures of gender and age to victimize young girls who couldn’t stand up to him. To understand Moore as a monster outside medical or societal norms is to ignore the ways that his position enabled him to take advantage of his alleged victims.

Technically he might not be a pedophile, but he is almost surely a sexual predator.

It makes no difference in the court of public opinion. I understand the distinction, but the only place it matters is in the courtroom. A mother****er by any other name is still a mother****er.

There are so many horrible, and accurate, words we can call Moore. There is no need to make stuff up.

I don't like it either because it the false hyping of something has the potential to bring discredit to the original truth, which often is already damning enough.

If you have a naked picture of a 14 year old girl on your computer. You will get arrest for possessing child pornography, and how do YOU know Roy Moore was NOT attracted to pre-pubescent children? I don't think he honestly cared what age they were.

Yes it matters. Otherwise, why not just call him a murderer? Scum is scum, right?

Wanting to have sex with 14-year olds is wrong. And it is rightfully illegal. But it is not the same as wanting to have sex with 8-year-olds. It just isn't. Throughout most of our nation's history, it was socially acceptable to have sexual relationships with teenagers (under 18). They fought wars, they got married, they had adult responsibilities. Now, I am glad our society has progressed. But it was NEVER acceptable in our nation's history to have sex with pre-pubescent children. Think about that. It was something society knew was wrong even during a time we practiced slavery.

I think what every man has to keep in mind, and most every guy here knows this, is that a 14-15-16-17 even 18-year-old’s body is very much different than an adult woman’s. Most we might describe as barely pubescent. These young girls are carefully chosen by these disgusting predators not only because of their young, nubile bodies, but because they are often easily controllable. Maybe the law draws a distinction between pedophilia, maybe psychologists draw a distinction... but they are sick men who prey on little girls who are, at most, four years from hopscotch.

Child pornography is considered to be any depiction of a minor or an individual who appears to be a minor who is engaged in sexual or sexually related conduct.


Just a naked pic is not child porn
 
I think the term is ephebophila, an attraction to younger teens, not pedophilia.

People who are attracted to pubescent kids generally are not attracted to pre-pubescent kids. Generally they want someone who at least looks sexually mature but is easily manipulated. Teenagers tend to meet that desire.

Having sex with 14 year olds is wrong now, it was not always.

Once you have criminalized thoughts and feelings then you entered into abuse.

And let me say that there is very slim evidence that our taking so long to raise adults is good for us...maybe the old ways were better.

If that person has a collection of pics of naked children, he/she just might be into child porn.

Do you want people to masturbate or be aroused by a picture of your naked or half-naked child innocently posted on Facebook?

I get grossed the hell out at the thought that some guy looking at a young girl and saying to himself.... "Wow... she doesn't even have hips yet. That's soooo hot!"
