It doesn't matter what else he has done in his life or how long ago these kinds of things happened.
Basically I implied he should have retired
long ago. Hell, sexually harassing women or girls was not needed, no more than robbing a bank or shooting heroin in his arm would be needed.
The exception, for me, would have been if he was effecting change radically for the better for Black-Americans in Detroit. Then it would be logical for him to stay in office for 100 years if possible, assuming he was not sexually harassing women and extorting sex out of female staff.
The only important thing here is if a woman one time felt uncomfortable with this man, so today he should be fired and lose everything.
Frankly--and I suspect you used this diction and tone because you are emotionally invested and think [incorrectly] that I am too--I'm about as
indifferent to this feminist crusade as I am to Black Lives Matter.
But I think in terms of who has power. Like I'm pretty pro-Latino and the day the Latinos gain most the power in the Democratic Party you will hear me calling the Democratic Party a Latino Party.
Currently, the Democratic and Republican Parties are homo-feminists, with the Republicans being only to a certain degree, and the Democratic Party being essentially (in power) a homo-feminist reign. Latinos are enjoying an increasing power in the Democratic Party and Black-Americans have a waning power in that Party. That's just the fact of the matter. The homo-feminist can effect more change throughout the whole of the country, across political lines, in 6 months than what Black-America's "Black Lives Matter" could pull off in 20 years. So, that tells you who has power and who has much less of it.
Being cognizant of sociology noting it supposedly is a field of inquiry that says how the world
is (rather than should be) and theology sociologist say is in contrast a field of inquiry as to how the world
should be.
So, I live in the "is" world and the not the "should be" world.
In the "should be" world America would be one tribe like author Sebastian Junger (with a social anthropology degree) suggests would be for the best in his book
Tribe:
https://www.npr.org/2016/05/21/478962909/sebastian-junger-s-examines-veteran-life-after-leaving-tribe
In that one tribe America it would not be tolerated for powerful men to sexually harass female workers or extort sex out of them. Black-American labor would not be being replaced by Latino labor by design, Black-American households would not be dismissed off and regulated to second class citizen status economically, Muslims would not be targeted for hate, Christians wouldn't be bashed, and the list could go on...
But in the reality, in how America is, there are numerous tribes that battle for dominate position and in some form are in war and competition with each other. Just like Democrats are at war and competition with Republicans.
So, contrary to what Democrats say we all aren't going to hold hands with each other skipping across a field of daisies and we all end up winning 1st Place trophies.
Remember that New Yorker guy caught on video I think, being placed in a strangulation hold (colloquially it is called a "choke hold" but more technically it is a strangulation hold), for selling single cigarettes I think ? I only chuckle because it is so ridiculous. But anyways the cops ended up killing that guy right? Black-America political power is so impotent (relative to say LGBTQ, feminist, Jews, and increasingly Latinos) that even homicide caught on video leaves the competing tribes like, "Well... let the long internal investigation process determine what happened because we can't be sure."
Now, I want to contrast that with mere accusations by living people, with no video footage, about what happened some years ago between some man in power like this Conyers and one or more women. The homo-feminist tribe are so powerful they'll have cats out of work in 7 days with no investigation. That's power. And if the man or men don't get taken out of power be sure justice will come to them faster than a black man murdered by multiple cops on film or in photos.
Black Lives Matter protested over a lot of shady people that were complicit in getting shot by cops (some were not shady and innocent). I suspect some portion of women accusing men are not being 100% honest too. Although, unlike Black Lives Matter I think most the women are being honest.
