America is in another of its Salem moments. Frenzy is almost a living, breathing monster. It moves from host to host, fueled by rumor, gossip, and self-righteous furor.

The Greeks knew well of the transitory nature of these mass panics. They claimed such fits were inspired by the Maniae, the three daughters of Night who were the goddesses of insanity, madness, and crazed frenzy. We’ve seen all three of them in action throughout the past year.

Collusion Everywhere

Speculation about Trump as a Russian mole turned into embarrassment about Clinton dirty tricks and genuine collusion with the Russians.

Taking a Kneepad for the Gipper

Football players protested the National Anthem to advertise how the nation that gave them a ball game paying them $millions done them wrong. Until they themselves became the objects of silent fan protests, and so that frenzy has wound down.

The Statue Busters

Some people were shocked to find that the US has a past with Confederates and thought the statues of those persons have to be removed. Too bad the statue busters are too ignorant to know who was a slave owner or a Confederate general and who was not. No, Lincoln never owned slaves, for those of you too ignorant to know. Nathan Bedford Forrest, the leader of the KKK, is the statue they really ought to want to take down, but the statue smashers are too ignorant to even know who he is. In any case, this fad got a lot of push back when they started going after Mt. Rushmore.

...when one’s negative traits alone define a person, and present morality supersedes time and space to become the arbiter of the past, then everyone stands condemned—progressives perhaps most of all. Was not the liberal saint Margaret Sanger a eugenicist racist? Was not Woodrow Wilson a segregationist reprobate? Was not Leland Stanford a white supremacist? Are the names of such progressive icons to be Trotskyized too from statues and universities on the principle that the worst of a man defines his totality—or are there suddenly to be found extenuating circumstances?

Well, yeah, because, as Harvey Weinstein is wont to say, we're the good guys!

Speaking of which:

From Harvey to Everyone

I've written about this previously. It's where progressives found out that their High Priests in the entertainment and media industries, those from whom all ideals of leftist rectitude and morality descend, those who never tired from preaching to us, are nothing but a bunch of deviates and reprobates. They had the machinery of moral panic, honed to perfection by SJW outrage mongers, brought to bear against them. And it couldn't have happened to a nicer bunch.

The accuser is blamed for accusing, or for staying silent so long, or for exaggerating the ordeal; the silent non-accuser is assumed to have advanced a career through willful acquiescence. Who can sort out the crime, the collusion, the conspiracy?

So what is it you suggest exactly? That everyone just shuts up at takes what we're given? If we don't like the status quo, too damn bad, take your medicine and stop complaining? Sounds a wee bit too totalitarian-ish for me, thanks. If a little mania here and there is the price of freedom, that's not so bad.

To take one example, if football players are going to protest over white cops being more likely to kill blacks, then it would be nice if white cops actually were more likely to kill blacks, because they're not.

The point is: The complaint is false.

And, of course, if Trump is going to be accused of being a Russian stooge it would be nice if the accusers had a teeny tiny bit of evidence that it's true. Because they don't.

The point is: No evidence.

And if we are going to pillory every man that every looked wolfishly at a woman, then it would be nice if the accusations were truthful. I don't think they are. I think a lot of the time they are opportunistic lies.

The point is: Political opportunism at work here.

Sure, protest all you like. But don't use lies and falsehoods.
