10 Achievements of the Cuban Revolution

Man oh man but did you steal my thunder on that. I was going to ask where else can I get an affordable 57 Chevy Bel Air?

Powered by a 4 cylinder Russian diesel engine.

Go for it.

That's because of the U.S. embargo.

I don't see why we can't let other countries run their own country. If the Cuban people don't want socialism they can march to the capital and demand a change. It's that simple. Why do we have to be such bullies?

We trade with Saudi Arabia and China, right? What is this nonsense about? It's just so damned stupid.

When Obama changed our policy with Cuba, I thought, "finally, some rationality." Now, this moron Trump comes into office and brings back the stupidity.

You can't be that naive.

What I don't understand is why we can't let other countries run their own countries. Why can't we let Cubans run Cuba? That's what I don't understand. Please explain.

Who is not letting Cuba run Cuba?

Is there any rule or law that says a country must let all other countries trade with them?

During our embargo, Cuba traded with every other country in the world.

But no, all of their woes are because of the one country they couldn't trade with.

That seems to be what arrogant Americans think.

Its closest neighbor, where people there have family, and, oh, a virtually hegemonic power in its backyard. Yeah, I think the U.S. has some influence here.

I've seen blatant dishonesty before, but the stories and lies you guys will spin to defend a pointless embargo of a powerless nation simply because we can are just ...wow.

I have read where most of those old cars in Cuba are held together by all sorts of things.

Speaking of stories and lies and apparent agendas, your response bears very, very little relation to what I actually said. Oh, well. No sense in explaining the obvious.

Sounds like a nice place.

But I don't see freedom listed.

Freedom to do what?

Maybe Janis was right, freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose....

1. A 90% reduction in infant mortality, which is now one of the lowest in the world, and lower than the United States
2. The only non-developed country in the world to guarantee healthcare and tertiary education free of charge to its citizens
3. A higher life expectancy than the US, despite spending just 8.6% of what the US spends on healthcare per capita
4. Universal immunization and the lowest rate of infectious disease in the developing world
5. 18 weeks of guaranteed paid maternity leave for mothers, one of the longest in the world
6. A 90% home ownership rate, universal housing and virtually no homelessness
7. A literacy rate of 99.7%, the highest in Latin America and on par with the developed world
8. The lowest incidence of violent crime in all of Latin America, and virtually no drug crime
9. The only country in the world to achieve "sustainable development", according to the World Wildlife Fund
10. The highest average daily caloric intake and the lowest malnutrition death rate of any country in Latin America

And then there is reality.....

You were already schooled on how wrong you were on the travel, why continue?

As for "what the cuban people want", they want not to be shot or imprisioned for speaking out against their system.

Sphere of influence. Cuba is 90 miles from Florida and has a sizeable population in America as well. Their stability is actually very important to America in dollars and cents. Not their wealth. If that mattered...we would never have let them be broke ass communists. What matters is their stability. Then you factor in that they were dealing with soviets? Yea. We couldn't trust them to be stable.

As for a nation like North Korea? Well. Economics at this point plus our alliance with South Korea. And if you don't believe that keeping trade stable is wort a little interference in political matters of other nations...then you really don't understand trade. We need trade to get resources and to bolster our economy. And we do it with every nation. Not just Cuba. And every nation does it to us.

But do the trains run on time?

A Socialist's idea of "paradise".

I'm sure we can find equally depressing pictures from deep red states so, y'know....may want to think that one through a bit.
