What an asshole presumption. I'm settling there because it's the most beautiful land and community I've found in world travels.
Sure you are. Americans are a plump portion of humanity and we are materially spoiled (many of us, not the homeless of LA's Skid Row). If one finds Cuban Spartan living conditions impossible then how is one going to find much of Africa's material hardships perfectly fine?

The World Health Organization calls it one of the greatest feats in medicine today. Doctors in Cuba have discovered a way to prevent pregnant women with HIV from transmitting the virus to their children.
Oh, look, PBS NewsHour not presenting a completely one sided perspective on Cuban Doctors and Cuba exporting doctors to poor countries. PBS must be spreading Russian and Cuban propaganda. Putin must be behind PBS NewsHour pulling the strings.
The PBS program speaks with a former black NFL player in Cuba as he was studying tuition free in Cuba's medical school open to foreigners.

Ray Suarez wraps up his series on Cuba with a look at a "medical diplomacy" program that offers medical school education to low-income students from around the world.
As I have repeated a number of times on this website, I'm Christian, reared Catholic with sympathies now for Eastern Orthodoxy. A liberal Catholic (which I'm not) might be fine with communism. Catholic liberation theologians more or less were. While those liberation theologians may have made some good points at times, ultimately they were too materialistic. Which is the defect of socialist revolutions throughout the world include the one that took place in Cuba. Property rights are an important thing in Christianity--when it comes to establishing governments. Pope John Paul II and the Vatican were active fighters against communism, going so far as to work with US President Ronald Reagan and the CIA (shove your idiot "conspiracy theory" it is all now revealed fact). But even Pope John Paul II made his way to Cuba to meet with Fidel Castro. To old men who had been on opposite sides of the battle.
A proper Catholic formation is to see evil and virtue or good where they are irrespective if the person is called Samaritan, Muslim, Protestant, Socialist, or Cuban. That's why even the Council of Trent, and anti-Protestant Council, condemned specific ideas among Protestants as opposed to denying Protestants could ever do any good.
The American formation is to get caught and arrested at the label itself.
Bishop Barron on the virtues of justice, prudence, temperance, and fortitude, in his review of the Hollywood movie Bridge of Spies.
The virtue of justice allows a person to acknowledge a good or a success among the Cuban people. Has nothing about praising everything about Cubans or the Cuban Government.
In terms of temperance and fortitude the Cubans are the superior of the Americans. That includes myself. Look at how Spartan Cubans live (temperance).

Spartans were notorious for living a simple, frugal, minimalist lifestyle. They ate only what they needed, kept their bodies fit, did not spend money wastefully.
A minimalist lifestyle is much more rewarding than the standard consumer lifestyle. To live a minimalist lifestyle you get by on the least amount possible and don’t concern yourself with over-indulgence. That’s gluttony.
