2017 Election Results - Female Politician Wins Voters

But you know who brought the damn house (and in some cases, the House) down? Women.
Last night, voters in Virginia elected the first two Latina women, the first Asian woman, the first openly lesbian woman, and the first openly trans woman to House of Delegates seats. In Minnesota, Andrea Jenkins became the first openly transgender person of color to win public office, where she’ll be serving the fine people of Minneapolis on the city council. Seattle elected Jenny Durkan, its first openly lesbian mayor and the first woman mayor of the city since the 1920s. Crystal Murillo, a 23-year-old recent grad, proved that young people are in this and took home a city council seat in populous Aurora, Colorado, defeating a 79-year-old incumbent. Democrat Vi Lyles will be the first Black woman mayor of Charlotte, North Carolina, a key city in a major battleground state. And Sheila Oliver is now New Jersey’s first-ever Black lieutenant governor.

Interested to see if this continues to build going into the midterms.

I have no doubt. When you want results, watch out for women. Ovaries rule. Consider Emily's List and women will rise( Early money is like yeast.) #Run for something.

If the race, sex, gender, or religion of a candidate is more important that their positions to anyone, IMO it shows exactly how stupid they are. I've seen a good number of posts on Facebook of people patting themselves on the back for voting for the first Tranny in the VA legislature. The few I've asked what positions Danics Roem has that you suport the response is I don't know but she is the first tranny so it's historical.

It's frustrating that an idiot who is more concerned about outward appearances over policies gets the same vote as someone who takes the time to learn about the candidates and choose the best policies regardless of looks.

The fact that our society has advanced far enough that women and lgbtq's aren't turned away solely for their gender, gender identity and sexual orientation is a point to be celebrated in itself.

Anyway, since you're so curious about Roem's positions, you can see them here:

Like having elected a Black President this indicates a lack of racism and old White man homophobia. Whatever shall we do for a new battle cry? "Trump the Trump!" ?

That should be good for one election, anyway.

May be 30 years ago but collectively women and LBGT candidates have been accepted for a while now. Especially considering she won in one of the bluer districts. Had she won a rural district in the red part if the state I would see it as more of a historic victory. Like when Bobby Scott runs unopposed and people still look at his wining as historic.

I'm already familiar with her positions because she is from my state, although not my district. I don't support some of her positions but woukd probably voted for her or write in a candidate because her opponent was a dick. That link really needs to be directed to those who think she will be a wonderful politician but know nothing about her except she was born a man and now identifies as a womam.

What a hilariously simplistic and shortsighted way to view this. But yeah, keep on keepin' on.

"Tranny." Well, I guess we know how ignorant YOU are.

Are you saying she isn't one? She has always identified as a woman.

I think it's going to be HUGE.

The president of Emily’s List rose to the podium at a recent New York fundraiser to make a proud announcement: More than 18,000 women had contacted the group since election day, looking to explore running for office — “an explosion,” she called it.

Of course, they’re all Democrats. On the Republican side, there’s been no such explosion. While a tide of anti-Trump activism has led thousands of Democratic women to consider runs for office, their Republican counterparts are where they were before the 2016 election — with little chance of improving their representation.

They have awoken a sleeping giant by electing Trump.

Woman's march the day after Trump was inugurated--this was going on in every state, not just Washington D.C. For more pictures go to this link.

You don't mess with the largest voting block in this country and get away with it.

She's stated her positions publicly. It's quite clearly you who's obsessed with her gender identification to the exclusion of all else.

Relatively sure "tranny" is not the preferred nomenclature.

Its hard to keep up with you liberal thought police. Please, tell us all what words you despotic leftists will allow us to use now.

It’s good with more diversity in politics. Also, men selecting other men is a long tradition in both business and politics. Take for example that 80 percent of nominations for top jobs in the Trump administration have gone to men.

Also, it’s not like Trump his hiring the best people for the jobs. Take for example Michael Flynn that was forced to resign from the position as national security adviser after 24 days and now risk criminal charges.

You also have Anthony Scaramucci that lasted only 10 days as White House communications director.

You also have Sam Clovis, who was nominated to become Department of Agriculture’s chief scientist without any academic credentials in science or agriculture. He also had to withdraw his nomination because his connection to Robert Mueller’s ongoing Russia investigation.
