The news is that Trump is telling DOJ that Time Warner must get rid of CNN before they will approve any merger with AT&T. What are the reasons for this? Is this an attempt by Trump to muzzle the free press in his bid to be dictator as more people now believe?

Open mouth - insert foot Donald. Again.

It's hard not to see this as the President using the power of his office to screw a private organization he doesn't like.

DoJ isn't the final word though. Their decision can be appealed.

Who's giving that news? Do you have a quote from someone that Trump, in fact, told the DOJ to do this?

Maybe you shouldn't believe the news, eh?

Trump ran his mouth countless times on his hatred for CNN and then said he'd stop any such merger, because of "reasons".
He also cited Amazon + the post as being unfair.

Meanwhile, precedent is that if the business is not in the same silo as the purchasing company, it's approved and never has been contested in some 40 years.
The issue is if it's a phone company + a phone company, or home depot + another retailer.

Is Administration Objecting to Big Merger to Punish CNN?

And of course a quote from CNN;
But Trump's pledge to block the possible AT&T-Time Warner (TWX) transaction breaks with precedent and places him far to the left of President Obama, whose administration approved the Comcast (CCV) deal with numerous conditions.

"It is wholly inappropriate for a president (or a candidate) to tell the attorney general how to decide a case before the Justice Department has a chance to make a recommendation," Andrew Jay Schwartzman, an attorney who specializes in telecommunications and media policy, told CNNMoney.

Trump was talking about a CNN merger while he was half way around the world?

And I see fake news written all over that.
