You don't understand what's going on. This position, and positions such as the Human Rights Council, are not awarded according to success or a good record. These positions are awarded in an effort to expand diplomacy. The positions bring the issue to the forefront for representatives of failing states. It gets them involved, it places them in a learning environment, it brings awareness and information. This is an attempt to have more impact regarding disease, cholera, malaria and such in Zimbabwe.

It's kinda funny that you believe these organizations cannot be taken seriously when you have no idea what's going on. It's your opinion that cannot be taken seriously, it's comically ignorant.

Do you always decide something lacks credibility when you're totally ignorant regarding it? Is this true for sociology, anthropology and other sciences? If only organizations and actions you understand are credible, what does that leave.

Baloney! It's legitimizing criminal regimes.
Mugabe is a criminal and should be treated as such.

Probably some backchannel agreement to give WHO more access to Zimbabwe. Goodwill Ambassador isn't exactly an influential position but it certainly isn't great optics.

Only to those ignorant of what's happening. I'd guess someone with a rabid anti globalism and pro lunatic nationalism has a narrative that needs to be furthered. But it's pretty stupid to make claims that are obviously false to anyone with passing knowledge of the positions and organizations in question.

Mugabe is a criminal and should be treated as such.

It's idiotic to suggest we should incarcerate a head of state or forgo engaging in diplomatic and humanitarian efforts. Yes, Mugabe is horrible, but that's no reason to condemn the people of Zimbabwe to disease. The effort by the WHO is for the people of Zimbabwe, and only the most ignorant or hateful construe it as conspiracy to legitimize dictators.

I already figured that out...lol

Okay, now try explaining it with logic, reason and the information available. If that doesn't work, seek information. When something seems completely absurd, it's probably because we don't have all the information. That's a good rule to live by. You're lucky, you don't need to do research on this topic, I've already explained it to you.

When something seems inexplicable, do not and I repeat do not default to conspiracy, demonization or declarations of a world gone mad. It's unbecoming.

I did none of that. I simply pointed out that WHO has zero credibility.

WHO advocates gun control in The United States. The likes of Robert Mugabe are the reason the 2nd Amendment exists.

You did. You tried to construe the appointment as some kind of scandal. It's a medical organization that battles disease. It's has thousands of doctors and projects doing good world wide.

I'm vehemently pro gun and the WHO is not about guns. They can advocate whatever politics, it's not their realm of influence. Making the WHO about US gun rights is downright obsessed or a weak rhetorical attempt.

This is why these kinds of orginizations can't be taken seriously.

Ian Smith should have terminated that thug when he had the chance

Eco, Mugabe is a thug. he should be on death row someplace for crimes against humanity

You think I don't know that? Zimbabwe needs help regarding disease. This appointment will provide an avenue. It's not legitimizing Mugabe. It's not an appointment of honor, it's an appointment of need.

I know, right! Bring back the Selous Scouts...lol

one of my shooting buddies who wrote a book loosely based on his experience, went from serving in the SF in Nam to being a member of the RLI . He was badly wounded in a land mine explosion, stuck around Salisbury (Harare) and earned a medical degree. back in the day, the RLI was one of the best and most effective military forces in the world. Ian Smith was a racist but Mugabe should be seen as a crime against humanity

I joined The U.S. Army when I came of age because there wasn't a Rhodesian Army, anymore.

a guy I hunted with in Kenya (Steve Smith, RIP, he did the stunt double shooting on Cowboy in Africa and Born Free) had a son (Barry-died of Leukemia) who was a mercenary fighting for the Rhodesian Government in the "Grey's Scouts. we asked Steve why is son was fighting for the Rhodesians and his father said-to stop the communist scourge from getting any further in Africa.

I recall reading articles in old issues of Soldier of Fortune Magazine when I was a teenager about the RLI, Grey's Scouts, The Rhodesian African Rifles and the Selous Scouts. I've been fascinated with the Rhodesian Army ever since.

yeah French Connection author Robin Moore called himself the unofficial ambassador to Rhodesia and came to Yale to speak about the fight against the communists and other insurgents. Moore, a bit of a racist btw, got the boot at the Soldier of Fortune convention for making racist remarks. William K Brown-the publisher of SOF noted to the crowd that "any man, with the proper training and motivation, can become a fine soldier no matter his race of background

but Moore's lecture really opened a lot of students' eyes to the atrocities being committed by the Mugabe thugs trying to overthrow the UDI/Rhodesian government

Racism was alive and well in Rhodesia, but it was recognized and being dealt with. Social life was mostly segregated, but the army was mostly integrated.

Chris Cocks, who served with 3 Commando touches on that in one of his books, I don't recall which one. He pointed out that Rhodesians were on their way to a free and equal and open society. Ian Smith admitted he held racist sentiments and that was his demon to reckon with, but it wasn't the future he wanted for Rhodesia. That's why the Rhodesian Army was in a steady state of desegregation. Ironically, by 1979 the only segregated unit was the all black Rhodesian African Rifles, a 100% volunteer regiment.
