John Kelly on the Fallen Soldier Calls made by Trump. [W:33]

They don't have to...they are GRIEVING!

Stop treating them like a political football, which IMO is what the Congresswoman did.

Look, this administration is known for one thing above all else, and that's lying. I don't give a rats as what Moron's minions are told to say, these are the same stooges we see "explaining" his utterances, and lying themselves; I still chuckle at "alternate facts".

And, it isn't like Moron has shown any kind of character or grit worthy of the benefit of the doubt. The man is a prick of a boss, a degenerate with women, racist, too stupid to know when he's shat in his own shoes.

And did I mention lying?

So, who to believe in these petty little dramas is easy: ABT, anyone but Trump.

Dumb **** never got the moral of the story about chicken little

What the Congresswoman did was a textbook smear tactic.
You take a portion of what someone said, in this case a portion of a sentence, wrap her own narrative around it, and sit back and watch the usual suspects run with it.

Oh gee...

I wonder what it feels like to have a Trump tactic turned on him.

Too bad, it must really sting.

Give me time and I can present proof of hundreds of direct lies by this administration, hundreds of Trump's claims about his enemies. This is not a game you want to play, you wan't win a game of **** tossing when you're too deep in it to throw

The expression "What's good for the Goose, is good for the Gander" comes to mind.

It doesn't matter who does it ... that's what it is.

Finally, the "proof" Mr. Trump promised:

I figured it was something like this when his Press Secretary said people were present when Mr. Trump made the call.

So, cue the nay-sayers who choose to believe a Congresswoman who admits she didn't hear the whole call, but strangely just the part she got up in arms about. :coffeepap:

Proof that Trump said exactly what Rep Wilson had said he said. Brilliant.

Given the fact that his own son was killed in battle, I tend to think this matter struck a particular nerve with him and he was speaking from the heart. Plus, he was present during the call. I have a hard time believing that he would just swallow hard and "take one for the team" given these unique circumstances.

I'd strongly agree.

It's pretty clear that this came from Kelly's heart. Clearly, what the congress woman said, came from her heart as well.

I agree it struck a nerve. I have four children, two well into adulthood. Few right-minded parents want to outlive any of their children.

I absolutely believe General Kelly swallows hard for the team on a routine basis.

I don't think so. I'm struck by how honest and from the heart Kelly's presentation is, far more so than fro the congress woman.

Just FWIW, this isn't remotely "proof" of anything. At best Kelly is in the identical position as the Congresswoman - a bystander listening in. Other than that, carry on.

FWIW, my own view is it appears Kelly and the Congresswoman are both telling the truth.

"FWIW, my own view is it appears Kelly and the Congresswoman are both telling the truth."

Fair. Circumstances such as these reveal much about the persons in question, conclusion of which are left to those viewing / reading and what they take away from it, which is also revealing (as we notice in Calamity's post).

And that there was nothing wrong with what Trump said.

lol...except he spent all day yesterday denying he said it.

Wait,,,you forgot the third part of this threesome.

(picture of Trump clipped)

Yeah, and even the argument that he didn't say exactly those words, which is true and that is what he meant, is quintessentially Trumpian

lol...except he spent all day yesterday denying he said it.

I didn't hear the conversation and apparently the congresswoman didn't hear it all either. Maybe he didn't say what she says he said. She claimed he said more than 'he knew what he was getting into.'

"Maybe?" :lamo

I agree, at least to the extent I can know. As I've said elsewhere, this is IMO an unfair attack on Trump. He made the call which is the 99% answer, and we should applaud him for that. What he said is a lot less important than that without apparent prodding he decided to contact the family. I feel bad for the family that the call didn't go as they hoped, but IMO they ought to take it for what it was, which was a genuine effort by Trump to do the right thing for their son and his family.

Anyway, his press conference was a predictable Trump cluster f but that's a different topic.

You didn't hear the conversation, so all you have to go on is your Trump hate.

And it apparently is distorting his limited reasoning capabilities, clearly.

Agree completely. There are plenty of things to criticize Trump for, but on this one, you are right, he seemed to be trying to do the right thing for the family. Hell, he even asked Kelly for advice on what to say. Did he fumble it a bit while on the phone? Maybe he did, or maybe the family just wasn't receptive to him, or maybe a little of both. At the end of the day, a woman lost her husband in battle and she got a call of condolence from the president of the United States. It could be that the advice Kelly gave Trump, though accurate and something that worked when told to him, may not work well with a grieving widow. Who knows? But ripping Trump over this pretty bogus.

lol...ironic. But, you probably fail to see the irony.

Let's put it this way. Is the Gold Star wife and mother lying?

In fact, Kelly corroborated the Congresswoman and proved Trump was not telling the truth. A minor point, I admit. His essential point was that Trump tried to appear empathetic. And he got a bad rap. He did. It was largely his own fault he got a bad rap because if you don't have an ounce of empathy in you try as you might it's not going to come off well. But...he tried.

Hey TT, if I were to do a quick search for your opinions during the campaign, what would I find you saying about Trump's decision to attack a Gold Star family?

He never denied what was said or the tone of what he said. He just made it about him. An empty barrel. I was stunned by his remarks. but I'm sure he's a
"very fine person."
