Walmart Is Helping To Stop Income Inequality

A large portion of full time Wal-Mart workers are on welfare. The US taxpayers are directly subsidizing Wal-Mart because they refuse to pay a living wage. No, they're still the heroes of the right.

It's the worst kind of corporate welfare. I'm freelancing now, and times are lean. I went to Walmart website to apply for part time work. Before you get to the actual 'application,' the user has to answer some (IMHO) pretty shady questions regarding food stamps, WIC, TANF, etc... It seemed like part of the application process was determining how much the applicant would qualify for government assistance. I was mortified.

Walmart pays a much higher wage than most other retailers do, with benefits to boot! By the way, do you have any proof that "a large portion" of full time Wal-Mart workers are on welfare?

Not quite. It's also not enough to live on so most of their workers are on welfare. The government is subsidizing their highly profitable business so they don't have to take care of their workers.

But those right-wingers who always scream about how much more fiscally responsible they are have more important things to boycott like... people taking a knee at a football game.

Well that's pretty shady indeed. I hate it when you apply for a job and they ask for your current salary. None of your ****ing business is what I make right now thank you. I usually leave that blank and tell them in the interview that it's personal. And they generally understand.

I've done the same with regards to salary. But applying online, there was no option but to answer the questions first. Disturbing.

This is what we call capitalism in america.

The public subsidizes the NFL, the owners, and the military propagandizing at games as well.

Your links are bogus hit pieces. You obviously didn't read them. The claims that Americans are subsidizing Walmart workers is misleading because Walmart pays the same average wages as other similar businesses. That means Americans are subsidizing the vast majority of similar types of workers, not just Walmart workers.

The downtown mom and pop retails stores often pay even less than Walmart, and will fewer or no benefits. The report that announced the govt was subsidizing Walmart then admitted those subsidies were incentives offered by local communities who wanted to entice Walmart to their towns. LOL

It then went on to denounce Walmart for taking advantage of the same tax breaks offered to every American. LOL

What misguided liberals always miss in their frothing and foaming at the mouth over Walmart is how that singular retail chain has brought equality in living to the poor.

Decades ago, poor kids didn't get new clothes for school or have a chance to own a bicycle of their own. Walmart changed all that. I've heard liberals scream -- yeah, but they're crappy quality! Maybe so, but to a child, they make all the difference in the world.

Well, two things. Some of those articles are over a decade old, and this 'initiative' was first announced in 2015 (two years ago). The effect of the raising of the wage from walmart from 9 to 10 dollars is not nothing, but it is not nearly as significant as the writer is making it out to be. The effort is highly over stated.

I don't know the percentage of Walmart employees who are on welfare (I challenged someone to prove that a large number of full time Walmart workers were on welfare and I don't think they could ever prove it). However, I will assume that your post is more accurate in merely saying that most Walmart employees are on welfare. But, that doesn't really have anything to do with the hourly wage they are getting paid. It has more to do with you can't expect to work part time and earn enough wages to live on. That's true with most all employers. Now it is true that Walmart determines how many full time and how many part time employees they have but that is not only the business model in the industry, but it is also determined by market conditions. In order to have a work force large enough to do the work they have to hire a lot of people who only want to work part time. When you take the wages earned for full time work and add in the benefits Walmart provides, they have a living wage. Most lefties refuse to understand that a living wage today is not the same as a living wage decades ago and I'm not talking about inflation. I'm talking about middle class people make enough money to pay household expenses because BOTH spouses work, unlike decades ago where the man alone had to earn enough to support the whole family. In other words, assuming that people are earning the federal minimum wage of $7.25 per hour, if both spouses work, that is $14.50 per hour. Now, when you take Walmart who starts off at $10 per hour, two spouses working would be earning a total of $20 per hour plus benefits, such as health insurance. That's not bad. It's not Walmart's fault that there are single mothers with children. But, back to my main argument, it's not the wage Walmart is paying that causes people to be on welfare, it is mostly due to part time work.
