John McCain, Accepting Award For Public Service, Slams ‘Half-Baked’ Nationalism

Well said. Trump's whole administration is creating nothing and destroying everything. Which is why the whole GOP mantra is how horrible of condition the country was in in 2016. Therefore undoing everything is doing something good. It's asinine.

As each day passes I give thanks to whatever it was that kept me from moving to "big time" US media in the 80's. I would not want to travel on an American passport today.

I believe many in the US right are going to be astonished when the results of this start rolling in. They're so stupid they think he's getting results, not realizing anything he does takes a year or more to have a significant impact.

Rumor, perhaps, but heard yesterday that if Trump scraps NAFTA, there will be NO agreements at all, and Trump will have to issue an EO on every can of beer Mexico and Canada flood the market with. It was also said, but I am not sure, but US oil from Alaska is piped through Canada and if there are no more agreements we can simply shut them off ....
still recalling "we don't want Canadian oil on our land" by the ever-insightful Barrack Obama.

None of which may be true, but shows the level of angst on the topic among Canadians and the politicians haven't even started anti-american rhetoric yet.

Trump will be able to deflect blame. It's what he does. And the simple fact that his followers are his followers due to being loyal to a cult of personality and not following policies and their results... means he will be able to deflect.

Take a look at what he just did to Obamacare. He's destroying the healthcare marketplace which is going to skyrocket premiums. Anybody with two functioning brain cells knows that when these premiums sky-rocket... "IT'S OBAMACARE THEREFORE OBAMA'S FAULT!!!!!"

Trump On GOP Failures: 'I'm Not Going To Blame Myself, I'll Be Honest'

"We're not getting the job done. And I'm not going to blame myself, I'll be honest," Trump said during short remarks in a Cabinet meeting.

He then shifted away from "we" to "they."

"They're not getting the job done," the president said of Congress.

As long as his lips say he's not to blame, his cult following well not only believe this but evangelise it as well.

He sticks with what he does best.

If he's going to be a bitter grudge-holding childish jerk then he should stick to what he does best in the private sector world instead.

John McCain, Accepting Award For Public Service, Slams ‘Half-Baked’ Nationalism
“We live in a land made of ideals, not ‘blood and soil.’”

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) passionately defended American idealism and condemned “half-baked, spurious nationalism” that has divided America in a moving acceptance speech Monday evening.

“To fear the world we have organized and led for three-quarters of a century, to abandon the ideals we have advanced around the globe, to refuse the obligations of international leadership and our duty to remain ‘the last best hope of earth’ for the sake of some half-baked, spurious nationalism cooked up by people who would rather find scapegoats than solve problems is as unpatriotic as an attachment to any other tired dogma of the past that Americans consigned to the ash heap of history.”

How True: John McCain is a true Patriot of this country, and it is very sad with what he is going through with brain cancer right now. It makes me want to gag every time I see the Ass Clown board Air Force One. Trump and his supporters attacks on John McCain are sickening.

The Republican party has found a new wing to their base. The ALT right a mixture of Neo-Nazi's, Racists and anyone else that crawled out from under a rock to get to Donald Trump.

Former Grand Wizard of the KKK had this to say after Trump's response to Charlottesville.
Thank you President Trump for your honesty & courage to tell the truth about #Charlottesville & condemn the leftist terrorists in BLM/Antifa https://twitter.com/NBCNews/status/897554574663442432

Slowly but surely, Bannon turned Breitbart into not only the most-read conservative web outlet but also the most incendiary one. It was happy to embrace fringe beliefs like birtherism and play footsie with blatantly racist notions of black criminality. It wasn’t interested in looking even faintly objective, instead inventing easily understood “narratives” of crusading conservative heroes and their many victories against the hated left. Bannon’s Breitbart also realized that there was a large online community that naturally gravitated to Trump, a mix of people who saw themselves as far too radical to be accepted by polite society. Among them, conservative suspicions of diversity, inclusion, feminism, and political correctness had metastasized into something much darker. This was the alt-right, a collection of racists, pick-up artists, men’s rights activists, and other noxious trolls of the internet.

Now you know why Trump was very reluctant to call them son of a bitches, after using an ISIS style attack and killing a 32 year old woman. Yet he had no problems doing that with players that were taking a knee on the football field.

The Republican party is no longer the party of Lincoln or Reagan. It is now the party of Trump. Stuffed full of anger, hate, bigotry, misogyny & ignorance.

Comments from along time friend and former staffer of RONALD REAGAN.

I used to love McCain, but when he decide to run for Presidency he sold his soul, just to fall in line with GOP mandate...

I guess in his old age his trying to get his soul back...before you know....

Diving Mullah

And he isn't even aware yet of the issues in NAFTA talks. The US has been making impossible demands, knowing they would be rejected by Mexico and Canada....reports yesterday indicated even the American negotiators are nauseous at what's going on.

The plan is that he will use this forced breakdown to claim "See, I told you NAFTA was no good." He wants the talks ended in time for next fall's elections so he can run on how he's protecting the US from the evil Mexicans and Canadians who are screwing and robbing you blind.

So we add bargaining in bad faith to our one-time friends south of the 49th along with arrogance, lies, corruption and a madman at the helm.

This is going to be the ugliest trade war in history; still smarting from Obama's "we don't want Canadian oil on our land" the Trump administration has imposed illegal tariffs on softwood lumber that will cost 12,000 jobs in one year. The Trump administration has imposed a 300% tariff on Bombardier's new "C" Series medium range aircraft jeopardizing the order of 70 planes...and the US doesn't even have a competing product to the C-series. These are acts of aggression amid deliberately stalled trade talks.

Trump has no decency...he will have no qualms about destroying friendships, look at how he treats his own employees, his own party. he will have no qualms trying to gut the Canadian economy....and Canadians are spoiling for a fight.

To destroy 150 years of what is said to the best friendship on the globe for the sake of image and holding on to some congressional seats is the epitome of arrogance, but it appears to be what Americans want so let's get er done as they say...and get ready for TARP 7 or whatever

The Republican party has changed from a free-trade party to a protectionist party in, as McCain is lamenting about.

After much consideration and emotional discussion, the House of Representatives passed the North American Free Trade Agreement Implementation Act on November 17, 1993, 234–200. The agreement's supporters included 132 Republicans and 102 Democrats. The bill passed the Senate on November 20, 1993, 61–38.[15] Senate supporters were 34 Republicans and 27 Democrats.

Revisiting NAFTA: Ronald Reagan on Free Trade in North America

...
When Congress was debating NAFTA in 1993, the former president wrote in an op-ed in The Wall Street Journal: “NAFTA is an investment in America’s future.”
...

Lincoln through Hoover it was a different story.

Man, the last time I saw these talking points made against John McCain's character was on a small smattering of liberal websites in 2007-2008.

Well done MAGA crusader!

Those 'small smatterings of liberal websites' praised McCain to the high heavens when McCain was the vote that
quashed a final Republican attempt to replace Obamacare about a month ago when he was heard whispering to
his Democratic pals 'Let's see Trump make america great again, now.'

Being thankful for McCain stopping bad policy and bad procedure (which I did), and having a disingenuous level of praise for McCain are different, but to be expected.

So your argument is that liberals are disingenuous therefore I should be too. Congratulations.

Trump is a bloviate.

McCain is a broken down "old war hero" and a piss poor republican who always licked the democrats boots just to get along.

I respect his military service to our country, but that's about it.

Just learned that our clever Mr. Trudeau did an end run around the liar in chief, Bombardier is contracting with Air Bus to do some of the finishing construction thereby skirting the Boeing ruling. It is revealed now that that is why Trudeau met with Trump yesterday, knowing Trump relies on skewed information took the deal to Trump himself. He has apparently agreed and will likely soon be announcing how he "created jobs"

I know little about the aircraft industry, but it appears the "C" Series is the latest hot item for economical short and medium range aircraft with STOL capabilities - 45% angle of entry among much state-of-the-art technology that the US would be stupid not to adopt

Its unfortunate that brain cancer has been driving this mans decisions for quite some time.

It does explain quite a bit however.

God bless him and I hope he eventually recovers whatever sanity he ever had.

America has always been great, and despite the best efforts of draft dodging Trump and his cult to wreck the country it will remain so.

It's hilarious that some progressives think McCain is an asset to this country when we look at his credentials
in his supposed field of expertise.

McCain, is the LAST person who should be dispensing advice concerning Ukraine or Syria. McCain is a war-mongering neocon!

McCain's opinions for a political solution on countries in crises seem to always lean towards 'arming the good guys." With Syria
he advocated arming those so called "peaceful protestors" and even went and visited them on the ground. Came back to
America and declared that those Islamic radicals were worthy of our support. Well all he really has to show for his support of
those "moderate Islamists" is two beheaded American journalists who died a pretty gruesome death at the hands of those "moderates.

McCain visited Ukraine last fall to stir up anti government protesters to over throw an elected President. He also was one of the
originators who dealt with the Jihads sending US war machinery to overthrow Assad. McCain is back in the picture now in Ukraine
as Chief War Monger the trouble shooting mad man. 'We only drop freedom bombs and launch freedom missiles.'

He was so 'out there' for his friend Saakashvili during the 2008 nomination process. 'We are all Georgians, now" I actually
donated 'mucho dinero' to Mrs. Clinton's campaign, she campaign entirely different in 2008 than in 2016 advocating mostly the
policies of Bill Clinton who didn't do a bad job. Obama promised to transforming America in a way I didn't like so he was out &
McCain was the worst nominee in my memory of the Republican party.

McCain thank goodness few listen to still years after the Georgian tragedy remained good friends with Saakashvili even after
Saakashvili is a 'persona non grata' in the land of his birth & is wanted there on multiple criminal charges, & the tandem showed up
again in Ukraine to do more damage a few years later. They both after the coup became advisers to Porky with McCain
boasting he was '"Deeply honored to be asked to advise the gov't of #Ukraine.' before he realized that was a no-no under senate rules.
Yikes!

"Joint Press briefing by Senator McCain and Governor Saakashvili in Odesa, Sept. 23, 2015

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OyY-_w_HicU

I wonder which one of those 2 guys is more crazy?...'

Recently Saakashvili was banned from Ukraine, I wonder how many public figures have been banned from not only
the land of their birth, but also from a neighbor who gave him a 2nd chance before they found out what he bought
to the table.

McCain's butthurt because President Trump won the election.

Can't blame him. He cares about his country, and knows the orange Reality T.V. Star belongs nowhere near the Oval office.

Just the biggest. By far.

Determining who's the biggest would depend on the comparative amount of attention paid to each person in the public sector.
