Say "Merry Christmas" or else!

When has the government restricted anyone from saying Merry Christmas?

It hasn't. But many governments at all levels have chosen to make Christmas disappear and use generic decorations for the 'holiday season' if it is observed at all. Schools do not perform the great majestic Christmas anthems that many of us grew up with in the winter concert, most forego Christmas trees or any kind of recognition of the national holiday, and the ACLU and other opportunistic groups continue to file or threaten lawsuits over beloved historic creches on the courthouse lawn.

I see the President's proclamation re Christmas as hopefully a reversal of all that kind of stupidity and a reversal of the restrictions on our liberties to engage in customs and traditions all Americans enjoyed until political correctness became a bludgeon to restrict thought, speech, and liberty to be who and what we are.

Not true. Merry Christmas morphed into Season’s Greetings and Happy Holidays a number of years ago. Never stopped many of us, but some bowed to the PC crowd. In our office, one of the Realtors was Jewish. She demanded the cross come off the top of the Christmas Tree, called it a Holiday Tree, and requested Merry Christmas be taken down. Seems she was insulted by it. I believe the expression is, “Gag me with a spoon.”

And which holidays from other religions do you think you should be required to support? Me, I don't think anyone should be required to support or endorse religions other than their own.

I don’t think anybody should be required to endorse anyone’s religion. But I also don’t think that people who don’t believe in my religion should try to shame me into not celebrating the way I see fit.

Why do you hate private enterprise?

There's no hate, why are you for only one sided ability to express yourself? They chose to do this, I chose to disagree with their decision and you come in with half baked snark. For shame Kobie.

Actually what really gets my hackles up is schools having "Winter break" instead of Christmas Break, that's just ignorant. For MOST of the kids, that's what it is, for the rest... hey it's tradition and it's not exclusive, YOU GET THE BREAK TOO!. FFS. Tolerance is a word that's been far too abused.

I'm an atheist and agree with everything you said up to the part about the salvation army part. I find their tactic of raising money unethical, even if it is for a god cause.

Of all charities, I think the Salvation Army is right up at the top of being the most ethical and also using the charitable contributions they receive to do the most good. When I was running a social agency, they were my go to group when I really needed to find help for somebody who had fallen through the cracks. And they didn't care whether that person was black, white, polka dot, Christian, Atheist, or a worshiper of flying spaghetti monsters. When I put my $1 or $5 or whatever into that kettle, I am reasonably certain it will be used to actually help somebody who needs help. With a whole bunch of more 'secular' charities, I have no such confidence.

Wha? Who cares if they call it winter break? It doesn't matter.

"Winter break" is what gets your hackles up?

Talk about snowflakes.

Pun intended.

It's getting to be that time of year again. As little as I actually watch cable news I make sure to tune out at about this time. The completely fabricated "War on Christmas" is such a disgustingly dishonest stance to take on what should be a good holiday season for everyone. It's a shame that the current POTUS basically forces Fox News onto everyone. Celebrating late year holidays is not only for Christians. Please feel free to get over yourselves.

Poor oppressed Christians.

How do they feel about gay people?

Who cares if they call it winter break? It doesn't matter.

It does matter, it's traditionally been, for generations. Changing it because it "Might offend" someone is stupid. Tolerance is a two way street.

Trump: 'We're saying merry Christmas again' | TheHill

1.)Beautiful Christmas season that people don't talk about? What reality is this guy in, I've been seeing and hearing about Christmas for the past couple weeks now and it's not even Halloween yet!

I do wonder how he plans to roll out to have department stores and whatnot say Merry Christmas. I mean, he can't actually think he's going to make people say Merry Christmas, right?

Firs,t no matter what he says there is no war on christmas LMAO

1.) me too. I can only answer for the areas i frequent around this time of year. Western PA, DC and Chicago. (possible add Cincinnati to that list this year) and saying merry Christmas has never stopped. Happy holidays is rare or said in beteen thanks giving and Christmas and after Christmas so some small extent just like it has been my whole life lol

I say merry Christmas to all family and friends. In public if i say anything related to the holidays at all I say merry christmas probably dec 20 - 24 after thanksgiving to dec 19 im probably more likely to say happy holidays because logically it makes sense and after Christmas the same.

2.) who knows what he thinks, he doent even know.

I am glad you support people's right to kneel during the National Anthem.

I support their right to do so IF their employer endorses it. I will continue to see such person as complete jerks and their kneeling as hateful and wrongfully directed.

He can do all of those things, just like his predecessor did.

This phony “War on Christmas” nonsense is ridiculous. There has never, ever been anything preventing anyone from saying “Merry Christmas” to their heart’s content.

Nails it!

Sometime before the nomination some liberal fellow here on the forum that there was no p.c. pressure to resist people saying Merry Christmas.

You are free to feel that way, that you're insulting me shows you have no intellectually positive position worth sharing and thus are relegated back to where you belong.

This is what I tell victims of gang rape. "Those 9 guys seem happy. Quit your bitchin'!"

Would you support their employers enforcing political correctness? ;)

Leftists are so used to attacking Christmas, they don't even realize it's happening. But it's a little early yet. Full on assault usually happens around Thanksgiving, you know that other holiday leftists attack.

The Salvation Army is a horrible organization, I've had friends who were former members and they treat them like crap and control their lives to an absurd degree. I don't care what they're collecting money for, I would never give them a dime.

Poor oppressed Christians.

It wouldn't anger me that much if it was just Christians feeling sorry for themselves. What makes me turn the TV off is the idea that many of these people refuse to acknowledge basic inequalities in race and class, but seem to have laser vision when they feel their religion is being attacked because it isn't always front and center of everything. It's an amazing lack of awareness.

He's half right though, I've worked at or been to places that say "Happy Holiday's" and when Is ay "Well I say Merry Christmas!" and then get told "We are not allowed too".
Which is silly as fook on their part. If you aren't celebrating Christmas, either mention that or take it as the kind wish for a good end of year.

Your employers get to tell you how to behave at work. Don't like that, quit. On your own time, you can say anything you want.

Does it bother you when they call it "summer break" instead of "Christmas in July" break?

No, it's quite true: people say Merry Christmas all the time, and there is no war on Christmas.

"Merry Christmas" hasn't 'morphed' into anything. It's still 'Merry Christmas'.
