If we make guns illegal

Who wants to make guns illegal?

Ask the UK and OZ. And a % of democrats.

Do you think there is any value in some regulations on guns in the United States in terms of lowering gun violence?

When existing laws are not enforced and would of stopped the crime had they been enforced, what sense does it make to create new laws?

Enforce existing law before worrying about making more.

There is way to many, laws. Criminals ignore current law, they wont magicly start to respect, new laws.

Not someone committed to committing a crime that requires a gun.

And if someone is determined enough, they will be able commit crime with drugs involved. Does that mean we should just remove all restrictions on them?

Ab sirdumb. Are you trying to deter law abiding citizens?

I know this sounds silly but if guns can't be against the law then why not sell bullet proof clothes like bullet proof vests in stores. I would say you could make a killing selling them but that would be corny. But I think it might solve a big part of the problem with guns and gun owners could still keep their guns.

That punishment deters many people.

Not really.

That's the assumption made by people who have never seriously considered committing a crime.

Absent a motivation to rob, rape, assault/batter, or engage in any other crime with a risk of being caught or killed themselves, the average citizen wouldn't think using a firearm worth the price of being caught.

That is not the case when people do seriously commit to engaging in crime; where the higher the risk of capture or injury during commission the higher the likelihood some weapon may be used regardless of punishments if caught.

Presenting a gun so that the target is more pliable gives the criminal a sense of being able to control and quickly complete the crime, the better chance to escape.

In gang warfare, use of a weapon is required, to show power and control. As well as for self-defense when the other side retaliates.

The bottom line is, laws provide guidance on what is considered criminal, and the punishments that accrue if you get caught. Most criminals prefer not to get caught.

Yep, we put the violent people who make money via drug dealing in jail.

and that is why others make lots of money. I have interrogated dozens of drug dealers. the last thing they want is drugs being legalized

yes, the laws that punish people using guns in violent crime.

we should not ban honest people from owning something that they do not misuse in the hope that will deter people who already use firearms to harm others despite the severe consequences for being convicted of armed robbery, attempted murder or murder

in some anti gun states, its against the law to sell such vests to private citizens. and in at least a couple states, its illegal to own it

I didn't know that! Why is it illegal? Is it because police don't want people to have them? That sounds crazy to me.

yeah I suppose since most cops are lousy shots, they don't want criminals using spectra vests. I have one that hangs on my bed post with a flash light and extra magazines for my primary home defense weapon.

private citizens ought to be able to own any firearm or defensive item civilian cops can use.

Oh, I'm playing the fun hypothetical game because nothing of the sort is ever going to happen---despite the many, many, many claims that Obama was going to grab people's guns and declare himself supreme ruler.

Of course. Extortion is a lot more work than just selling drugs.

We also should not assume that people are honest, or take it on faith that they are.

so you have a hard on for the concept of presumed innocent until proven guilty?
