He wrote in two separate tweets, "'Puerto Rico survived the Hurricanes, now a financial crisis looms largely of their own making.' says Sharyl Attkisson. A total lack of........accountability say the Governor. Electric and all infrastructure was disaster before hurricanes. Congress to decide how much to spend..."

He continued in a third tweet: "We cannot keep FEMA, the Military & the First Responders, who have been amazing (under the most difficult circumstances) in P.R. forever!"

May I remind the president that they are AMERICAN CITIZENS!

Apparently, someone failed to babysit the president this morning.

Re: 45: We cannot aid Puerto Rico 'forever'

American citizens or not, you cannot that is you should not help people for ever. That is one of the problems with social projects. Knowing that help is perpetual solidifies the bad situation and passes it to the next generation that knows no other life.

Why are we talking about this as though they've been there for years?

Puerto Rico was hit 3 weeks ago.

I don't recall Bush saying we need to abandon NOLA 3 weeks after Katrina.

This is not a social project. This is a natural disaster that hit American Citizens living in an American territory. They're in the midst of a crisis where people aren't getting enough food to eat. What kind of president would say something like that now? It's been a few weeks, we're nowhere near forever yet.

I’m going to Fed X that guy a pair of mittens.

Do you think that’s the message Trump was sending? That it’s time to turn them loose? I don’t.

Re: 45: We cannot aid Puerto Rico 'forever'

How about this, if we have to help Puerto Rico forever, then we eliminate the commonwealth government and all those taxes flow to the federal government, just like the District of Columbia.

What message was he trying to send the American Citizens in Puerto Rico who are struggling to find food and water after a horrific natural disaster?

Donald Trump's history clearly shows what he thinks of anyone Brown or Black. Personally, I have 4 family members who are now back in the States from PR, and they are here to stay, and they will Remember Donald Trump ... I'll make it my life's mission to keep their memory fresh.

Yeah. He's threatened to before because they have a debt.

For some reason, it's not an issue that every state in the union also has a debt.

Either he doesn't understand how commonwealths work, or he just thinks Puerto Rican Americans aren't as worthy as continental Americans.

Yeah!!!

Forget the fact that still 89% of the entire island still does not have electricity.

F them. It's their own damn fault for living on a tropical island.

Don’t know. But, as with every other natural disaster, the people themselves eventually have to step up. And step up strong.

The god-damned POTUS should not be pounding salt into wounds that are still gushing blood.

Good gravy it's sad you don't understand how poor the timing of such a comment truly is.

Re: 45: We cannot aid Puerto Rico 'forever'

I hear the people who say that we MUST help Puerto Rico. That's great. What are you willing to cut from the federal budget? Keep in mind, you can't say Department of Defense, which is the immediate go to of the left because the DoD is the spearhead of this relief and reconstruction.

You're not going to get anything like a direct answer that acknowledges anything could possibly be wrong with Trump or what he said. All you're going to get is faux-jingoistic parroting of what Trump said.

If Trump says Puerto Ricans are lazy, you'll get some form of Puerto Ricans being called lazy. Etc.

And if you question that, you will be accused of being mean to Trump supporters, just like Trump told his supporters would happen.

The problem is that the cult of personality he's sold is a closed loop, as they usually are. The people who were duped into accepting it will parrot his statements and dishonestly characterize anything else as an unfair attack on him.

Re: 45: We cannot aid Puerto Rico 'forever'

I keep hearing this "we." Puerto Rico is American land under the control of the federal government. People born in Puerto Rico are American citizens. I don't think the president or his supporters understand this. It's possible that they are incapable of understanding this.

The United States territory includes any geography under the control of the United States federal government. Various regions, districts, and divisions are under the supervision of the United States federal government. The United States territory includes clearly defined geographical area and refers to an area of land, air, or sea under jurisdiction of United States federal governmental authority (but is not limited only to these areas). The extent of territory is all the area belonging to, and under the dominion of, the United States of America federal government (which includes tracts lying at a distance from the country) for administrative and other purposes.

Seems like he was heavily criticized because he said the gvmt was going to HELP them with that debt. And saying he doesn’t think PR Americans are worthy is putting the worst possible spin on thin air.

Not true. What Trump said was a foolish and clumsy thing to say. But, what else is new?

More like heartless and evil.

Starving Puerto Rican Towns Sharing Food, Eating Plants, and Waiting for FEMA

They are AMERICAN CITIZENS. i have to repeat that because Trump supporters struggle to understand this.

Since when does America abandon its citizens????

When are we going to stop helping West Virginia?

The only state where less than half of all civilians work

If I recall, it had bankrupted itself by overspending badly. If that had not been the case, the destruction would be there nonetheless. It is the solutions that would have been easier and less reliant on other taxpayers.

Uh, no, he didn't. He bellowed at them like a collector, within days of their entire island being flattened to the ground, and then had the audacity to tell them they hadn't suffered a "real" tragedy.

It's one or the other, Maggie. There's no other options.
